Prologue: Story's Past Told
Sounds of a young girl giggling echo the room as a kind and gentle man throws her up in the air. "Daddy! Please—haha—stop tickling me! I can barely breath!"
An older gentleman, with curly black hair who contained the ability to hold a mischievous grin while looking stern, was on a little bed with his daughter. He had bright amber eyes, with a large scar on his eyebrow, and the faint beard that was starting to grow and tickled his daughter's face. "Not unless you beg for quarter you hoodlum!" The man stared in their intense game.
"Quarter, quarter, quarter!" The young girl said in between laughs. Her father finally stopped and her face became exposed. She also had his curly black hair, but possessed aquamarine eyes, and had freckles placed lightly all over her face. "Daddy, you know tickling me that much will make my face blotchy!" She said while pressing her cheeks resembled a puffer-fish.
He grinned in a mischievous manner, "Careful, or else your face might stay like that and we will have to throw you with the star-fishes!" he remarked while he grabbed her and spun her around her room. The laughter filled the room again, which beckoned another to join the party.
The door to the girls room opened and revealed a woman. She has short dirty blonde hair, aquamarine eyes—that were inherited to her daughter— and a crooked smile at the peaceful scene in front of her. "Alright you two hoodlums, it's time for some little girls bedtime," she said, giving the two hoodlums a stern look.
"Aw…" the two said in unison. This earned a half-hearted smirk from the lady.
"Come on Tiena, you know you need rest. How on Montressor will you be able to help your father and I man the crew without the proper sleep?" said her mother. This earned a dirty look from the little seven year old. "Oh well… I guess if our little cadet is too grumpy for story time…"
This made the little girl perk up, and act as if nothing could bring her bright spirits down. "I won't be grumpy! I promise!" she said earnestly, holding both her hands out. This made both her mother and father smirk at their little space-cadets charismatic charm.
Her father, Cameron Golde, approached her massive bookcase. Expecting to read the notorious favorite, Treasure Planet, her father started to grab the book before he was stopped, "No! Can you tell me about Underwelt?" Both parental figures froze in place, unsure of this request.
"Tiena, how did you hear about Underwelt?" asked her mother, Francine Golde.
The girl lowered her head in the common way children do when caught snooping around, "I… found a photos in one of your trunks… for the expoflishion you are leaving for…"
"You mean expedition?"
"Yes, your expefishon." said the child.
Both of the captains looked at each other, knowing the others thoughts on the matter. "Fine, but just this once." said the gruff man.
The child grinned, and scooted in between her parents so she could hear the night's tale of adventure. "Once, long ago, when planets were first created, one of the first to come into existence was Underwelt: The Planet where life was created, and where the dead return to be reborn." The girl listened intently to her father telling the story, capturing every word and placing it into her memory forever.
"Legend tells that deep within the center of this planet, were jewels and riches beyond anyone's imagination. However, one item known as the fountain of youth, was at the center of this treasure."
"Wow...so, did anyone find the planet?" asked the curious girl.
Her father smirked down at his girl, then glanced at his wife. "Only one has been said to have found the planet…" said Francine. "Elizabeth Tiena Watson."
Tiena giggled, "She has my name."
Her mother grinned, and played with her daughter's hair. "Yes, you were named after her. Well, according to text, she found the planet and she became entranced by the wonders of the mysterious planet, along with those who lived there. However, she knew others would tarnish Underwelts powers, so she created a map where only those of her line could open the entrance to the planet. With her intelligence and cunning, she devised a plan, and hid the planet from those who would harm its traits."
The girls stared in awe as her father continued to speak. "However, legend says that one day, her descendant will return to Underwelt, and discover the secrets and set the planet onto its true course."
"Daddy, that was fantabulous!"
The man laughed, "Fantabulous you say?"
"Yes!—and I, Tiena Rosalee Golde shall help the descendant of Elizabeth Tiena Watson find Underwelt, and discover its properties!" the girl exclaimed with her whole body. She jumped off of her bed and grabbed her wooden sword and laser-gun from her toy chest, acting all high and mighty. Her father raced towards the girl and grabbed her, flying her through the air in her energetic fit, and placed her in bed.
"Someday little moonbeam, but not tonight. This is the time for you to get some sleep. Besides, you're mom and I have a big day tomorrow." The father smiled at his girl, kissed her on the forehead, "Goodnight little moonbeam, see you in the morning."
"Night daddy," said the little girl. Her tone had changed drastically. While her father might have walked away, blissfully unaware of his daughter's somber tone, her mother noticed.
She sat down, and stared her down. "Alright, I know you too well. What's wrong Tiena?"
The girl scrunched her face, "Nothing…"
The mother gave her a knowing look. "I think there is something bothering you. Do you know how I can tell?" The girl shook her head. "You usually go to bed on time, no fuss. However, you have been giving your father and I any excuse to make us stay up late with you. Is it possible that you are nervous about us leaving?" The girl looked at her mother, and gave a reluctant nod.
"What if you and Daddy forget about me?" The mother was in shock, and understood how the young girl's mind worked.
She grabbed Tiena in her arms, and brought her to the window. "You see those stars? Each light in that sky is being stared at by someone else across the galaxy; every night, before you go to bed, if you stare off to that sky, you're father and I will be thinking of you and looking at those same stars." The young girl stared at what her mother was pointing at, but was still unsure. Then, Francine came up with an idea.
She pulled out a necklace; the pendant was in the shape of a crescent moon, made out of old copper metal. On the side she pushed a button, and the gears shifted, and formed a sun made out of cut up metal. Then, the metal poking out started to turn, along with playing a calming tune as it spun. "This belonged to my mother. This has been passed on for generations to each daughter in our family, and now my dear moonbeam, it belongs to you. And every night, while you stare at the sky, if you sing a little song, I will be singing back to you."
The little girl had bright eyes, and carefully took the precious gift being given to her. She studied the jewel while her mother studied her daughter's face, grasping at every tiny moment that she could have the beautiful girl as if this would be the last precious moment with her.
"How does the song go momma?" Her mother smiled lovingly, and started to sing.
In the land where the Dead roam
You will feel lost and cold
Travel farther to the center
Where the only life flows
But Death Longs to be
Gold and rubies dwell there
But the soul is unfulfilled
The only treasure there
Is the heart made of gold
As soon as the song was sung, the pendant stopped, and gracefully placed itself back into the shape of a moon. The little girl placed the precious item on her neck lovingly, and hugged her mother. "I love you momma."
The woman smiled, and hugged her in return, holding onto the few remaining moments they would have with each other.
