Hey people! Just thought I'd get back into this thing. It's been a while and I'm trying to finish Melted Pot of Diamonds when I get to it, I know some of yall been wanting more of it. This here that I'm giving to yall is a simple one-shot I've been thinking of doing, and I just bought a laptop so that makes things easier. It's going to be based on the whole Dani/Santana relationship, but it's also Brittany/Santana. However, toward the ending it is a bit dark. The song Pray You Catch Me by Beyonce kind of gave me the tempo of this. Hope you enjoy it!

I DON'T OWN THE SONG NOR CHARACTERS USED IN THIS.

Warning: character violence and death.

You can taste the dishonesty, it's all over your breath, as you pass it off so cavalier... But even that's a test. Constantly aware of it all.

Dani sat on her and Santana's king size bed, staring at the clock on the wall. Wondering just when did "I'll be home by midnight babe", turn into her girlfriend not even walking through the door yet...as the clock hits 2:30 in the morning. This isn't the first time Santana has done this. Sixteen months they've been together- the last 8 months they've been living together. A little after 2 months of living together, and the suspicions Dani has about her girlfriend's whereabouts had begun to grow. She thought they had it good. It was good... until Brittany moved to New York after transferring from MIT to Columbia.

My lonely ear, pressed against the walls of your world.

She heard a door shut silently and a little shuffling and couldn't help but cringe. Santana Lopez slides through the bedroom door and sets her purse on the dresser. Tears stinging at the tip of Dani's eyelids, she inhales and exhales to calm herself.

"Where were you Santana?" She asked. Clearly she had been drinking, which she doesn't understand because they were supposed to have dinner and that's it.

Santana turns and walks to her girlfriend. "After dinner, the girls and I went to that nice bar they just built by the diner." She stops just in front of Dani. "Why aren't you sleeping? You know you have to be up for work in the morning?"

Dani reaches for the girl's hands and brings her closer, guiding her to sit on her lap. "You love me right?"

Santana ran a hand through Dani's brown and blondish hair. "Asking obvious questions I see." She chuckled.

Dani gazed from her neck and back up to her face. Santana isn't one for too much makeup, but the amount of foundation and concealer used on her neck is more obvious than what's on her face. "I see you didn't answer my question."

She sighed against her lips before placing a gentle kiss. "Yes, I do love you." Not more than a couple seconds later, Santana stood up and began to undress. As Dani watched her movements, she couldn't help but notice the slight smell of spearmint and lavender scent. It was very slight, but still there...everywhere. Or the fact that she had never seen that green and black striped dress her girlfriend was slipping over her head.

Shaking her head, Dani slides her body under the fluffy brown duvet, hoping the warmth from the covers would bring her conscious comfort, but all it did was bring more weight on her heart. Many nights in the last few months she's gone to sleep alone. Alone and impatient.

Prayin to catch you whispering

It's all getting too deep for her and she knows it. It's just a matter of time. She's been more than fair when it comes to Santana coming home late, or not at all. By all means, go out and have fun with your friends...but not coming home every other day, not at least a call of where you are, secretive things.

I'm prayin you catch me listening, I'm prayin I catch you whispering

Santana told her who Brittany was. She knows she, Quinn and Brittany were the triple threat, Unholy Trinity, no one could separate them. She knows when Brittany and Santana started to get closer and started a relationship. In the end, Dani thought she had it; Santana is hers. She doesn't do well with sharing. She doesn't do well with mistrust. The way Santana carries herself nowadays is a constant reminder of her falling through the hole of the useless feeling she has, ready to swallow her whole.

I'm prayin you catch me

She felt Santana slide in beside her and a kiss to her neck. "Did you ever go pick up that guitar you said you wanted?"

"Yeah I got it. Might have to buy new strings for it though- didn't sound so hot when I was playing it." Dani shrugged. "I'm going to sleep, talk to you in the morning babe."

Santana sank down under the covers to tuck herself into Dani's side. "Alright, goodnight."

A couple weeks went by, and Dani was starting to see less and less of Santana. Things were picking up for Santana and between Santana's classes and her job, they haven't spent much time together. There was a pont a few days ago, on a saturday when she and the latina got into a huge argument, and Santana didn't come home until Monday evening. All Dani got was a short text stating "i'm okay, love you". Dani asked Rachel, Quinn and even Kurt where her girlfriend was and no one seemed to be sure, all of them sort of surprised by the lack of communication going on between her and Santana.

"Where the hell have you been?! You can't just send me a blank ass text and expect me to think that's ok!" Dani exclaimed.

Santana rolled her eyes. "I told you I was fine, and I didn't feel like talking." She turned back towards the bed and began to put clothes into the small duffel bag she brought out of the closet.

"And you're leaving again...you barely spend any more time with me. You'd rather go out with those skanks from school than even spend a nice evening with your own girlfriend; you haven't even let us have an intimate moment in weeks. I don't under-"

Santana turned around quickly. "And you don't have to understand. I just need some space okay!" She exclaimed, lifting her bag onto her shoulder.

Dani rushed to block her from walking out the bedroom door. "Space from what?" Santana rolled her eyes and stepped around the girl, continuing to walk away without answering, with the girl yelling after her.

"Santana!" Dani trailed behind her until she stopped at the front door that slammed in her face. "Santanaa!" A hand slams against the long wooden slab.

Nothing else ever seems to hurt like the smile on your face, when it's only in my memory. It don't hit me quite the same. Maybe it's a cause of concern.

Dani sank down to the floor in front of the front door, silently crying. She couldn't help but ask herself... Where did she go wrong? Wasn't she good enough? She opened the door of their home only to see her girlfriend hop into a black truck. She cursed as she tried to look through the blackout windows to spot whoever was in the driver seat, but to no avail.

Brittany sat inside of her black Toyota Tacoma, with her head in her hands. She was waiting for the latina to come back to the car. A part of her knew that what they were doing was wrong, but she couldn't stop; she blames it on her love for Santana and the partial HBIC mindset she was so quick to hide in her high school days. She was selfish, and she knew it… She was hurting the woman inside the home that just wanted her girlfriend to love her… Santana was just as manipulative as she was back in high school, but this time, Brittany wasn't going to let her keep it up and trick her.

"Hey baby" Santana greeted.

Brittany looked up and noticed the latina situating herself in her seat. "Did you tell her?" She asked.

Santana exhaled and looked into blue orbs that she adored so much. Probably more than she should. "Not yet, I-..." She sat still.

Brittany put the car in drive and quickly drove off, but didn't miss the hurt expression on Dani's face as she pulled off. They rode for about 20 minutes before they pulled into Brittany's driveway. Brittany opened the passenger door as Santana climbed out and proceeded to walk inside with the blonde.

"I can't keep doing this Santana, it's not fair to her… It's not fair to me" Brittany's voice cracked as she threw her keys on the side table beside the door. "You told me that you were going to break things off and then we could move on! You take me for a dumbass or what?!"

Santana ran her hands through her hair. "I swear i was going to tell her tonight! I don't know what happened. I don't know why I didnt… I do love her, I-..."

"Yet you're in love with me." Brittany added.

Santana kept quiet. A beat passed before she spoke again. "I swear when I get back, I'll break it off. I'll tell her why she and I can't be together. I promise, ok?" She walked to the blonde and placed her hands upon her face. "Look at me, please Britt."

The blonde lifted her eyes to solid brown orbs. "If you don't, I'm done. It'll hurt like hell, but this isn't right. We aren't in high school anymore. I love you, I want you. Only you." She said wrapping her arms around the girl.

Santana placed a single but sweet onto her lips. "I promise. I love you too."

Unbeknownst to the two love birds, Dani had quickly ran to her car in the garage to follow the truck to whatever destination it was headed. She figured she could talk to her girlfriend's friends and get to the bottom of this problem she seems to be rooted deep in with Santana. Once she saw the truck pull into a driveway, she slowly came to a stop a block away, behind the tall trees.

But I'm not at ease, keeping my head to the curb

Her breath caught in her chest when she spotted Brittany exit the truck, along with Santana. In some way or another, she had a good guess of who it was in the driver seat of that truck. Lone tears ran down her brown eyes as her breathing picked up. Placing the car in drive, she hurriedly pulled away from the home.

Prayin to catch you whispering… I'm prayin you catch me listening…

Brittany and Santana laid across the blonde's sofa, it wasn't long before Santana caved into Brittany's caress and they fell into a different world of passion and love. The latina tightened her legs around the blonde's hips as Brittany pumped her fingers fast and hard. They gazed lovingly into each other's eyes as Santana began to reach her peak.

Dani barely got the car in park before running inside their apartment. She slammed the bedroom door shut and let out a high pitched cry of agony, tears still streaming down her face. Hands shaking, she pulled her phone from her pocket and dialed the familiar number she's been calling repeatedly the last few weeks.

I'm prayin to catch you whispering...I'm prayin you catch me…

"Fuck, Britt! I'm coming!" The latina screamed. Brittany caught her lips, swallowing the loud moans her lover released. She continued to place kisses along her face and neck, not relenting one bit while Santana continued to wither underneath her. The familiar ringtone of Santana's girlfriend began to sound from the coffee table beside the sofa. With her free hand, Brittany quickly silenced the phone without distracting the latina.

Dani clutched the phone tight in her hands and brought it back to her side. Her arms hung numb, as her whole body went cold. "Why?" She asked herself. Blood and her heartbreak rushed to her ears, her eyes snapping to the long mirror on the wall. Her brown eyes stared wide ahead. One thing that no one that she was so afraid of, was Santana leaving her. Before she met the latina and her band of friends, she didn't tell them that she had serious abandonment and anger issues- stemming from her troublesome parents who were far from decent parents. She thought Santana could keep her grounded… Guess not.

Santana and Brittany stood in a spacious kitchen, laughing at one another. "So you really thought that you could catch the squirrel by climbing into the tree behind it?" Santana chuckled.

Brittany grinned. "Look, I was drunk ok? Kurt and Quinn totally kept me away from trees since that night."

Smiling, Santana ran her hands over the blonde's robe covered shoulders. "Well, remind me to do the same from now on. Can't have you falling from trees can I?"

"I'd climb in the tallest tree for you if you were stuck." She said.

Santana playfully rolled her eyes. "So cheesy."

Brittany moved her hands from red laced hips to the girl's arms. "You know me so well." She chuckled. Santana's phone vibrated and Brittany picked it up. "You should put your phone on the charger, it has a low battery."

Dani walked over the broken frame that held a picture of she and Santana. One of the many things lying across the floor, broken. She quickly slid into her car and drove quickly to the previous address where she came from. Parking in the same spot by the trees, she cut off her lights and put the car in park. She slid out of the driver's seat, and began to walk behind the trees. Dani stopped when she suddenly caught sight of Santana; said girl was leaning across the middle kitchen island, scrolling through her phone. The girl pulled out her phone once again to call the latina.

Santana stared at the phone screen for a couple seconds as it rang. Brittany walked up to her side. "You should probably answer that. She called a little earlier." Brittany sighed.

Santana smiled apologetically and pulled the blonde close. Resting her head on Brittany's shoulder, she answered. "Hey."

Dani spoke into the phone. "You ever wondered how it feels to lose the person you've cared most about, like your worst nightmare coming to life?"

"What do you mean?" Santana answered.

"I was always scared to lose you. It hurt the worst in my nightmares… When you would be lying next to me, silent in slumber, looking beautiful as always." The latina raised her head from the blonde's shoulder and turned the other way. "But, then I would take a closer look… And see you were bleeding out from your chest. No wonder you were so quiet."

Santana furrowed her eyebrows. "Dani, what are you talking about. Did you have a bad dream tonight?"

Dani proceeded to walk closer to the back door of the house, still hidden in the shadows. "It wasn't a dream." Both women were silent over the phone for a few moments before Dani spoke again. "Does Brittany have nightmares like that too? Of you?" She said emotionlessly. Santana wrapped her arms around herself, tears pricking her eyes. "You can ask, I'll wait."

Santana wiped at the tears that started to fall. It was something in her girlfriend's voice that shook her. It was no point in lying. "Dani, I'm so sorry-"

"You're only sorry because you were caught." Dani said. The girl stopped walking, just shy of the back door, which she noticed wasn't even locked. She laughed humorlessly. Without another word, she hung up the phone,

Brittany gazed at her lover, noticing her shoulders slightly shaking as she dropped the phone from her ear. She just knew the kind of conversation that had just happened. A few seconds passed before the blonde's phone rang. Dani went through the latina's phone one night seeking Brittany's contact number. She figured one day, maybe she should talk to the blonde, maybe she would know what her girlfriend was getting up to these days. Boy was she right.

"Hello." Brittany answered, puting the phien on speaker.

"Having fun with my girlfriend?" Said the voice on the other end. Brittany's eyebrows shot up as Santana quickly spun to face her.

Brittany swallowed the lump in her throat. "What?"

"Enjoy it while you can." Dani hung up and brought the machete from her belt buckle, settling it in her hand. Almost every light was off inside of the home. She easily slid in through the back door and listened for the two voices.

Brittany set her phone down and grabbed the edge of the kitchen island. "Okay. I don't know what that was about, but I think you should go home and talk to Dani."

Santana exhaled a shaky breath and glanced at Brittany before turning away. "Can we um, j-just sleep on it tonight? I promise, you can drop me off first thing tomorrow morning, and I'll talk to her." Dani peaked around the corner and caught sight of the two women, both looking worried and definitely full of guilt.

Brittany shrugged. "I don't know, maybe. Try calling her back." She rubbed her hands against her pale cheeks. "I'll be in the bedroom when you're finished." What Brittany didn't catch was the shadowed figure following a safe few footsteps behind her, steps muffled by the background music playing.

Santana watched her walk away with sadness. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt the blonde, but in the process of trying to keep her, she hurt her girlfriend too. She was selfish, and she knew it. Picking up her cellphone, tears flowing from her eyes freely. The phone rang a couple times before she heard it; the slight sound of her girlfriend's ringtone. The sound came from near the bedrooms. Her eyes went wide as she hurried to that side of the house, careful not to make too much noise in the dark; she cursed herself for leaving the phone in the kitchen. "Brittany?"

There was a sudden, hard thud, followed by a few grunts, but it didn't sound like it came from just one person. She slowly came around a corner to see a tall silhouette coming through the moon-lit room. "Britt, what was th-" her words fell dead onto her lips as she spotted red. Brittany was covered in red blood. She cried out as she caught the limping blonde in her arms. "Brittany, baby!? What happened!? Wh-what, oh my-"

"Stand up."

Santana's blood ran colder than ice as her girlfriend's voice shot fear through her soul. However, she made no movement to get up.

Dani walked in front of the duo, eyes peeled on Santana. "Isn't this such a fantasy? You and both of your little girl-toys, under the same roof." She paused to poke the tip of the machete in the bleeding blonde's shoulder. The woman cried out a low groan through her gritted teeth.

"Dani, stop it! Please!" Santana cried.

Dani pulled away and stared blankly into the latina's eyes. "You did this… I took care of you, I worked two jobs so you could go to school and not have to worry about working, to pay all our fucking bills! And this is how you repay me?"

Santana clutched Brittany's body close to her and cried into her. "I'm so sorry… I'm so sorry." Her own body shook with sobs, rocking the two of them back and forth.

Dani smiled menacingly, walking behind the kneeling latina. "She'll bleed out soon. A machete straight through the abdomen, simply can't do good without medical attention." She pointed the large knife at the back of Santana's shoulder. "You saw me with tear-stained cheeks, bloodshot eyes. You would come home and see me in bed, all alone… And you would simply leave me there to feel like shit. You know, I never wanted to believe you were a bitch like Brody said, until now. "

"Please Dani, let's talk about this okay. I-I promise I won't tell anyone about this. Just please, let me get Brittany to the hospital. It d-doesn't h-h-have to b-be like this, babe." Santana stuttered.

Dani shook her head. Blind rage and tears started to form in her eyes. "You've been making a lot of promises to the both of us that you can never keep." Santana closed her eyes and silently cried. "I love you. But at the same time, I can't love you anymore."

Santana opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Eyes wide, she looked down to her chest just as the bloodstained blade sliced through her left breast. Nothing was said as Dani quickly pulled the machete from the latina. Santana slumped forward onto the blonde, red almost instant spilling down her torso.

The next evening, Dani gets a call that wakes her from her sleep. "Hello."

Quinn's panicked voice began to flow through the speaker. "Dani, jeez it's- it's Santana! She w-was... Gosh I can't even say it, I can't believe this is happening!"

Dani took a deep breath. "Wait Quinn, slow down. What's wrong?! What about Santana?!" She feigned worry.

"She's d-dead, Dani!" Quinn cried out.

So, yeah halfway through writing this, the plot took a whole 180 lol. I thought I'd try something a little different though. Lemme know what you all think.
