The R.H Case
Chapter 1
A six feet middle aged man ran through the dark alleys of Tokyo; not caring how many people he pushed or fell down because of him. The man, breathing heavily, stopped for a second and glanced back. Sweat drops were running down from his neck as he tried to catch his breath. He smiled when he was sure that he has lost his chaser.
Chuckling he turned to look at the way ahead but stopped when he saw a gun pointed at him. When did…? He gulped as he took some steps back, thinking the odds of running in opposite way. Much to his dismay, his hopes crumbled as more footsteps started to approach from behind.
"You are surrounded. Better to surrender now." The man who held the gun spoke in a quiet voice making the referred person shiver.
The middle aged man looked at his surroundings; he could not bear to get caught after all this time! He glared at the 'gun-holder'. In a swift motion he took a metal rod from the road and charged towards his enemy.
No matter how fast the blow came, the other guy dodged it easily and placed a sharp chop on the back of his attacker's neck making the other guy lose focus and fall on ground.
The middle aged man tried to break free from the demonic grip of the other one but failed miserably. He instantly stopped struggling when he looked at the dark, agitated emerald eyes of the 'gun-holder'; it felt as if his blood had suddenly gone cold.
"You are under arrest."
By this time more men had reached the place and they stared in awe as they saw that their senior had already taken care and caught the culprit. They all gulped as the 6 feet tall blond made his way towards them. Out of respect, they all saluted together.
The blond took a deep breath and put his gun into his belt at his back. He never liked to work with anyone else for others always slowed his workflow; just like now everyone was too slow for him. Not that he needed any help but his seniors still insisted him to take a team. He looked at the people who were saluting at him before taking a last glance at the hand-cuffed culprit lying on the ground.
"Handle the rest." He spoke to his so called helpers before walking away.
Tokyo- capital of japan- had the population nearly fourteen million. Just like the population here the crime rate in the city was not low either. Everyday many bad things happened at various part of the city but stopping them was the job of the cops.
Usui Takumi- everyone in the crime branch of Tokyo knew this name as the guy was renowned for his strong sense of justice and honesty. People feared him as he was perfectly capable of shooting even his best friend if found guilty.
Aside from that, Usui Takumi excelled at his work. He was an expert of solving cases at an inhuman speed no matter how hard and complicated they were. The things which others could not solve would usually go to him and he would solve it without breaking a sweat. A genius- that's what people called him. His juniors looked up to be like him. Girls drooled at his stunningly handsome features but unfortunately that man understood nothing but work.
"Inspector Usui-"
The referred man turned to source of the voice, his emerald eyes bored. "Oh hello Yukimura."
Yukimura smiled. He was one of the very few persons who could talk to Takumi without looking down in fear. "Congrats for catching that serial killer."
Takumi shrugged as he shook his head, "If I had caught him sooner maybe some innocent lives would be spared-" he glared at no one particular, "-I'll make sure he gets the worst punishment possible."
Yukimura sighed. This man was way too hard on himself. Many times he had suggested Takumi to take a day off and relax but Takumi never listened. He was always seen in his office working on cases or reading books quietly. Sometimes, Yukimura wondered if this man even knew how to take a break.
Remembering why he came for, Yukimura spoke, "By the way, Sir is calling you. Maybe your next case is on the way."
Takumi bowed. He sure loved his work. He had decided on his career when he was a kid. Being an orphan, he had no one waiting for him at home anyways. That's why he was not afraid of dying. That's why his job suited him the best.
Without wasting a moment, he made his way towards his senior's office. The old man smiled at him when he entered and told Takumi to sit in the chair opposite to him.
"Congrats on solving the case Takumi."
Takumi nodded at him before muttering a small thank you. Soon a file was passed to him. Without muttering a word, he took the file and started reading.
"Do you know what's near?" The old man stood up from his chair and started walking around the room.
"Yes." Takumi nodded, "The grand auction."
"Do you know what are they auctioning there?"
Takumi shook his head. He hated to admit but he did not know the things which were being auctioned.
The old man took a deep breath, "They are auctioning a hundred carat diamond." He took a look at Takumi who was still reading the file given to him, "Have you heard of R.H?"
Takumi chuckled, "Everyone has." He looked up to face his senior, "The infamous thief whose face has no one seen till now let alone catch him."
The old man nodded, "Rumour has it he will steal the diamond." He swore that the young one's eyes sparkled as the spoke the next words, "I want you to stop him."
Dark room, rich people gossiping and the smell of alcohol- yes, Takumi hated parties. But here he was, attending a masked ball, for the sake of his job. Who the hell holds a party before the auction day anyways? He chuckled bitterly- people with nothing better to do.
Masked ball- perfect for someone to sneak in.
He wanted to face-palm when he heard the organizers were doing a masked ball but as his mission here was to only guard the place, he could not stop this ball. After all hoping for a stealing was an inside news and stopping the ball would definitely raise suspicions.
Takumi had refused to take a team with him for this case. He preferred to work alone and thankfully that old man had permitted him to work alone. 'The less the merrier'-that has been his motto all along.
He was dressed in a black suit with his gun hidden safely in his coat. Nobody could tell that he had a gun. His hair brushed neatly backwards complete opposite to his usual messy hair. His face was covered with simple blue mask. Simple but elegant- that was Takumi's liking, he hated anything fancy. Maybe that's why he also hated parties.
Feeling the glances of the ladies around him, he started walking towards the other side of the room bumping into someone. He sighed- headache after headache.
It was a lady.
Quickly he steadied her. His eyes ran a scan on her as she tried to steady herself. She was a little woobly on her feet- maybe the after effects of alcohol. Dressed in fancy black dress, which hugged her petite body well, her face was covered by a feathery black mask. All in all, she was the fancy type Takumi hated the most.
He was about to leave when suddenly the lady grabbed his hand, "Hey want to dance?"
Okay, he was irritated as hell but maintained his composure well.
"No." He refused politely.
Much to his displeasure the lady leaned in and whispered in his ear, "The guys behind my back are pestering me. Maybe you can help me a little gentleman."
Takumi looked behind her and just as she said some men were looking at her and their look did not feel good to him. He scrunched his nose in disgust before nodding at the girl in front of him allowing her to lead him to the dance floor.
Now that they were in a brighter area Takumi could see her eyes. Those amber eyes felt like fire. He noticed that she was quite skilled in dancing too. She smiled making the other frown.
"You are staring too much."
Takumi tilted his face a little, "Like those guys..?"
"No..." She chuckled, "It feels you are prying into my soul."
Takumi looked away. This lady right here, in his arms, seemed like trouble. He took another quick look at her. She did not seem to have anything hidden in her dress. Hair down but her ears could be seen. No split in the dress either to hide anything between her legs.
While he was busy looking at the details, he felt her hands behind his neck as she came little closer than he liked. He frowned a little as her rosy fragrance hit his nose.
He looked at her- she was about a head shorter than him. She looked up and smiled at him. As the music came towards the end, she spoke, "Thank you. It was a great dance."
Before Takumi could speak suddenly the lights went out making everyone panic. He looked at the lady in he was dancing with and he felt her grabbing his coat.
"Stay here. Don't go anywhere." He said to the stiffened lady, "I will keep you safe."
As soon anas those words left his mouth, he ran through the panicked crowd, his eyes still adjusting to the dark. He assured as many people as he could that they will be okay. At his quickest pace he went towards the chamber where the items were placed in. Creating a black out and stealing during it- it seemed too straight forward.
Suddenly the lights were on. He felt his phone buzz. It was the organizers.
"It was a small fault on our part. Nothing out of the ordinary." They assured.
Takumi let out an exasperated sigh. Now that the lights were on he felt at ease, his mind drifted towards the stiffened lady. She must have been scared. He felt bad for leaving her in the dark, but he had no choice. He made a mental note to visit her once before leaving this place.
After reaching the chamber, the guards also assured him that no one has entered or were seen around the chamber during the black out. They also seemed to have a lot of confidence in their alarm system and no alarms were heard. They told Takumi to relax.
Takumi frowned; something still did not felt right to him. He needed to double-check.
"Open the door. I need to go in."
The guards were confused but still they listened to him and opened the door.
Takumi noticed the guards went through numerous locks and patterns before the door opened. As he walked in, the room looked way a little dimmer from inside. Everything seemed in its place. No sign of anyone in the room.
He made his way towards the main room. He stopped on his tracks before he frowned. Why was the lights of main room still off?
His eyes widened as realization hit him.
Alarm can't be heard if the electricity of that specific place is broken!
In a second, Takumi went in the room and just as he feared, the diamond was not in its place instead the initials R.H were written on a piece of paper.
But what he saw next shocked him way more. There, in the moonlight, his eyes met with amber, the same eyes he saw back in the ball.
Quickly, his hands went in his coat while his eyes never left the amber ones. Confusion hit him. His gun was not there.
The amber eyed lady smirked as she slowly took out a gun.
His eyes widened. When did?
She dropped the gun and mouthed- during the dance.
She smiled at him before jumping out from the window of seventh floor.
As soon as she was out, the lights were on in the room and the alarm went off.
Takumi stood at his spot, without moving an inch, eyes still on the window.
'R.H' was a girl.
And he was completely fooled by that girl.
