Prologue
Dewfield shot into a new world as she flickered open her eyes. A crimson sky traveled over her head, allowing white clouds to dot its terrain. A graying sun with an aged, dulling glow danced throughout the sky, though it seemed to be forced. A lifeless aura stalked the fantasy glimmering before the medicine cat, entangling the designs before her inside of an enraged death.
"Where might I be?" The words which questioned this imaginary universe summoned something which could not be expected from the feline. As she spoke, the trees began to fall down, looming silently over the grass for one final moment before crumbling to the ground. Of course, this shocked Dewfield. She leaped away, her claws unsheathed with the sudden shock of such an event. Her fur fluffed upward, boosting her size to something larger.
She gulped before turning her figure to face the trees once again. Bursts of air caught onto her face as she faced the forest, though she was distracted by the landscape ruined due to the sudden course of excitement.
"What was that?" She whispered to herself. Her thoughts buzzed gently, and as she remained inside of her mind-analyzing the situation with a curiously involved expression-Dewfield's ideas began to cascade into a field of noiseless flowers of nothingness on the verge of breaking her brain.
However, her thoughts collapsed as she noticed a new form of scenery beginning to break out from the trees. From underneath the slumping trees, a rabbit appeared. Its head was slanted and solid, and its pelt seemed to be textured roughly. It crawled from out of a crevice between two fallen trees, its form quite insincere and lazy as it began to waddle through the grass. Its peace was soon abruptly disturbed by a burst of commotion appearing from out of a pile of shrubs nearby.
The bushes which would cause such a lethal situation for the rabbit seemed to birth a patrol of cats from out of its twisted branches and leaves covering up the ugliness of the bark.
The rabbit squealed as it observed the predators pouncing at it. Immediately, the rodent began to sprint away, angling its ears back in order to take note of the cats' movements from behind.
Dewfield took note of how the patrol was formed by three cats with frames that resembled a young, agile warrior's. They were all extremely swift, beating their paws wildly against the ground as they all trailed after the rabbit in a terrifying race.
Squeaks and unruly cries from the rabbit continued to escape from its small, angled mouth and into the air. This seemed to only make the insane cats hungrier, for their tails began to lash and their limbs began to smash harder against the ground. Eventually, the feline in the middle managed to take a far lead on the other two within the patrol. Their unsheathing claws spoke of such crazy famine which they could not bear for any longer. They pounced, working against the breezes pushing them back. Their expression was blissful, twisting into toxic optimism as they finally gripped the rabbit and wrestled with its body.
The cat began to push the rabbit into the ground as they landed, their paws kneading against the rodent's neck and causing pearls of blood to prickle upon the flesh of their prey. And just as the cat began to lean down, their teeth exposed in a snarl of dominance, the rabbit's shape began to fade away. Of course, this forced the cat attempting to eat to become quite puzzled with such a superstitious incident. Yet, they turned away, signaling to the pair of other felines that something unusual was going on.
The other two blankly tilted their heads, a confused emotion twisting both of their faces as they padded forward. As the pair finally stepped toward where the occurrence took place, the cat on the left gasped.
"Really? Where did it go?" He grumbled, his voice edged with frustration. His tone shook the silence which had taken control of Dewfield, for she was so focused on this happening that she had forgotten that this was not her natural home.
The cat that had hunted down the rabbit successfully whipped his head toward the cat at the left, his eyes burning with a certain, unmistakable bout of fury. "I don't know! But we needed this rabbit for a meal, and it just disappeared! What are we supposed to tell Needlestar?" He sneered back, his tail violently stirring the air behind him.
"Calm down, you two." The cat at the right, of whom possessed a soothing voice, stepped forward. Her silver fur was still flat, and her body language did not expose any sort of powerful feelings toward the rabbit's abnormal, mid-air disposal.
The cat from the middle grunted softly, shaking his head. "I can't calm down. What happens if a cat dies?" He hissed underneath his breath. He clamped his eyes shut for a moment, as if he were hoping for the darkness encasing his eyes from his eyelids would make the situation whisk away in a storm of Newleaf petals.
As the cat on the left opened up his mouth, something caught each of the felines by surprise. Suddenly, a shadow in the shape of a rabid dog sprung from behind and managed to blow the trio of cats downward onto the ground. The dog barked wildly as it pounded the middle cat into the ground, crushing his skull below the dog's huge paws.
Blood began to leak from the middle cat's head as he shrieked in agony. Gibberish words became one with his cries. Dewfield found this rather interesting, though she winced at the abnormal ways in which the dog twisted and tore its victims. Considering the gruesome surface of the situation, she turned away. She knew that questioning this would get her nowhere, but she couldn't help but ask herself why she was being subjected to these cruel mind games.
Finally, an ear-piercing scream of absolute misery and agony compelled Dewfield to turn back toward the dog and its victims. Her orbs were met with the formless corpses of each cat, and yet no sign of the dog's presence other than the crumpled skeletons and anatomy of each of the felines. She found herself with a swirling concern inside of her heart. Disgust blared inside of her mind, stamping on all of her other thoughts.
Her mind stirred. Her thoughts cried, sobbing of the monstrous situation. Everything and nothing caused Dewfield to faint underneath the pressure of such a painful aura.
