Chapter 1: Interplanetary Vistors
Jason felt the clay fist sail over his head before he could even see it.
He looked over at the monster, its stony, scowling face, and thought the same thing he had been thinking for the last six months.
What the hell happened to my sophomore year?
"Hey, dude!' He heard a voice exclaim from the combat. "Monster!"
Jason stabbed his Power Sword through the chest of the putty patroller and kicked it aside. Moving over its corpse to aid his friend.
The creature laughed, it was a strange being composed on gooey eyeballs that meshed together into a shape that vaguely resembled a human. It pounded its fists into the source of the call. He was another teen, a boy named Adam Park, though one couldn't tell because of the black armor and the mastodon helmet covering his head.
Jason jumped into the air, his blade blaster drawn and firing red energy blasts. Sparks flew from the monster as Jason hit the ground and swung his sword upwards.
The creature was knocked backward with smoke pouring from its skin.
"Why are these guys always so ugly?" Jason asked as he tilted his sword and took a defensive stance.
Suddenly the eyes on the creature's chest began to glow red before emitting a laser that punched Jason in the chest and sent him flying into a bicycle rack.
Jumping to his rescue the yellow ranger landed. She threw one of her twin daggers towards the creature, hitting it square in its middle eye before it could shoot another attack.
"Thanks, Aisha," Jason commented.
She just nodded as she drew her blade blaster.
"Aim for its main eye again," The blue ranger said. "It's his weakness."
"No problem Billy," The pink ranger said. She drew back her bow and fired an arrow of pink energy into the monster.
The arrow hit right on the mark, and the creature exploded.
"Good shot Kim," The yellow ranger said to her companion with the bow.
"Yeah," She said, Jason could tell she was smiling from the tone of her voice.
Jason couldn't help but smile back, it was great to have such a clean victory.
On the moon Rita Repulsa seethed, it had become a habit over the past few months. Time after time she had been foiled by those color-coded brats.
She leaned over her balcony, her staff horizontally in her hand as if it were a javelin.
"Do you always carry such a foul expression on your face?" A rough voice said from behind the empress.
She turned around, fire in her eyes as they eclipsed the intruder
"What right do you have to enter this palace?" Goldar asked, turning a blade towards the figure's head.
The figure was a cyborg, wrapped in black and yellow armor with red glowing eyes. "I come on behalf of the master," He said simply.
Rita froze, her stomach twisted at the mention of him.
"He freed you for a reason," The intruder said. "So that you could comb over this filthy planet for any signs of Zordon without attracting any unwanted attention." the figure paused and looked down at the planet below. "It seems that has failed though, and SPD has dispatched a few officers to investigate the planet."
"So?" Rita spat. "I'm not scared! The galaxy has gone soft in the last ten thousand years."
"If that were the case," the man said softly. "Then our master would already be ruling over this galaxy, instead of some insolent blue mutt."
Rita realized she has been grinding her teeth and scoffed, turning around and looking down at the planet below.
"Ugh!" She exclaimed, "You're giving me a headache!" She stormed past the messenger and down the candlelit hall towards her room to relax.
The five teens all celebrated their victory back at the Youth Center. Each of them had a fruity drink in their hands and a smile on their face as jokes flew back and forth.
"No," Aisha said, "You were checking out that foreign exchange student."
"So who else thinks that Rita's running out ideas?" Adam asked quickly as his face shot with color. "I mean, that thing was a mess! I've seen better monsters hung up on my refrigerator."
"Yeah," Billy said, "How would evolution produce a creature with so many eyes?"
The young boy looked at everyone else's glossy expression and sunk into his chair.
Thankfully the tension between the five of them was broken when three new figures entered the Youth Center.
The Youth Center was a haven for kids, a place to hang out, exercise, and game a little, because of this it didn't attract the attention of many people outside of the school system.
So when three young adults stepped in everyone paused.
The three were all dressed in strange uniforms, they seemed vaguely police like, but not in any recognisable way. The man in the middle carried red trim over his uniform, while the man at his side had green and the woman wore pink.
"Hey!" Ernie said from the juice bar. "What can help you, folks, with?"
"We're just passing through," the blond-haired man in red replied.
"Actually…" the man in green said with an upright finger. "I wouldn't mind a glass of juice myself."
"What kind would you like?" Ernie asked.
The man froze, looking up at the menu anxiously.
"The Asparagus Veggie Surprise sounds good," the man replied.
"Are you sure?" Ernie asked, trying to hide the cringe.
"So," the man in red continued, "Might I ask you a few questions?"
"Sure," Ernie said as he worked on the smoothie.
"How much do you know about the Power Rangers?"
Ernie shrugged, "about as much as anyone else. They just sorta showed up six months ago and started fighting monsters. Some people think they're aliens, some people think they're a secret government program, some people think they're both."
The man in green chuckled at the mention of aliens, but the one asking questions remained stone-faced.
Jason felt his insides flip slightly. There were a lot of people trying to uncover the mysteries of the rangers, but something about these guys screamed trouble to him.
"Sorry I can't be more help," Ernie said and extended the smoothie outwards.
"It's fine," the man said and reached into his pocket.
"No, no, no," Ernie said. "Police drink free here."
"Thanks," the man in green replied. With the drink in hand, the three of them left the center without another word.
Goldar resisted the urge to fight as he followed behind the man wrapped in leather. The warrior born on the planet Titan didn't trust the new guy as far as he could throw him, and Goldar was sure that he could throw him rather far…
"How is walking through the desert going to get us any closer to finding Zordon?" Goldar hissed.
"We know that the Rangers are stationed out of the nearby town," The man, who Goldar learned was named Deviot explained. "Zordon is like a rat, he hides in whatever desolate location he can find."
Goldar grumbled to himself, mostly because he had to admit that the cyborg had a point.
"Looks like Rita finally found someone willing to take mutt-mouth on a walk," a voice said from behind a large mound of sand.
"The hot desert sand isn't good for his paws," a female replied, "But I can recommend a few dog parks in the area."
Goldar grimaced as two rangers jumped down towards them. The black ranger armed his Power Axe and swung towards the titan, but Goldar quickly parried with a blade of his own.
Deviot turned towards the pink ranger and fired a laser from his metal gauntlet. The blast hit the ranger and sent sparks flying from her armor.
Just as Goldar expected the other three rangers joined the fray, he gripped his sword and prepared for combat when he felt Deviot's metal hand grab his shoulder.
"Why waste our energy in a pointless battle?" Deviot asked and drew a small green card. He threw the card to the ground and a knight in dark armor materialized in a grid texture that faded into its battle-scarred metal.
Goldar watched in disbelief, that was a Datacard with a warrior digitized into it. That was level six technology, not something easy to come by.
"Nasty Knight," Divoit commanded his warrior, "take care of those Power Rangers."
The warrior drew his blade and rushed forward.
Jason fought with all of his strength, both his Power Sword and Blade Blaster in sword mode, but Nasty Knight was still overwhelming him.
"It's been so long since I could stretch. It'll be a pleasure to gut you as a warm-up."
The black ranger moved in from behind, his ax upwards and ready to fall.
Unfortunately, the knight was prepared. He kicked Jason back and whipped around, cutting into the black ranger's armor and raining sparks across the sand.
"This isn't a normal monster," Aisha said, she stretched her arms out and prepared to swing her daggers in an X formation but the knight extended his hand and fired an orb of black energy that ejected her backward.
"No," Billy said as she flew into his chest. "He is clearly a skilled fighter, with swordsmanship comparable to the templar knights."
"I can't believe that you five constitute as Rangers. I've slain better fighters to get a free drink!"
Jason looked over to see the pink ranger had moved to the high ground and was taking aim. He fought harder, hoping to distract the enemy long enough for Kimberly to get her shot.
"Alright Nasty," Kimberly said as her bow ignited with energy. "Time to say, good Knight."
The energy flew towards the enemy, seamlessly moving past the other rangers. But the knight turned one-eighty degrees and knocked the energy back with his blade. The arrow lost its shape, becoming a blob of swirling energy before punching into the pink ranger.
Her armor shattered and she fell backward, crumbling to the ground.
"Now that she's done with I can take care of the rest of you," the knight growled.
"I wouldn't be so sure." Jason heard but didn't recognize the voice as any of the rangers.
And then he saw them, the three officers from the Youth Center. Each of them holding a futuristic-looking gun.
"Nasty Knight," the man in the red uniform said. "You are wanted on fifty different planets, ten of which don't even have governments. By order of SPD, you are under arrest."
"Oh yeah?" The villain asked. "Who's gonna stop me?"
"You might want to stop," the guy in green said. "Sky loves when they ask that."
The three officers drew what appeared to be giant metal badges. The badges flipped open as they screamed. "SPD! Emergency!"
In a flash of light Jason's life completely flipped upside down.
Because he was suddenly in the presence of three more rangers.
Author's Notes
So the story behind this story is kind of interesting. I started it in 2018, right after the Shattered Grid event ended. There had been speculation at the time over what might happen to the rebuilt universe after the defeat of Lord Drakkon and that was what inspired it. I wrote the first couple of chapters that columnated into a short arc and then promptly forgot about it. Fast forward to 2019 and I rediscovered the document in my Google Drive and showed it to my good friend and frequent collaborator Blue Legends who then suggested that I post it. Which I've not only decided to do but I want to continue the story past its original arc.
So that is the long road that has brought us here my friends, I look forward to seeing what everything thinks of this little revived pet project.
