Kagome looked up at the Goshinboku and listened to the sound of the wind through the limbs and leaves of the tree. She closed her eyes enjoying the peaceful lull in a world that tends to be filled with much chaos, it was during these times that she yearned for the simpler life of the feudal era.

The sound of a growl jerked her from her thoughts and her head whipped around to find where the noise had come from. Her eyes landed on a large rust red wolf and her eyes widened as the wolf bared its teeth at her. She froze one hand still planted on the bark of the Goshinboku the other hand brought to cover her mouth.

She tried to keep from yelling out so she didn't put her family in any danger. The wolf took a step forward and she held her ground but her hands started shaking.

"Easy there." she held one hand out in front of her to try and show the wolf she meant no harm. The wolf took another step forward and this time Kagome took one step back and looked around for something to use to help ward off the wolf if he felt inclined to attack.

She saw the wolf brace on it's hind legs, it was almost as if she saw the muscles bunching for a jump she ducked behind the Goshinboku as the wolf skidded past the tree and tried to regain it's bearing she took off at a sprint to the well house.

She made it to the door and slid it open just as the wolf gained on her. She felt a searing pain through her calf as the wolfs maw closed around her leg and she fell through the door and the breath was knocked out of her as her chest hit the wooden floor.

She bit her lip so hard she tasted blood, she used her other leg to kick at the wolf in the hopes that it would let her go. She landed a kick and the release of pressure on her leg was all she needed to sit up and slide the door closed.

She felt the door shudder as the wolf tried to open the sliding door with it's paws. The door wouldn't hold up much longer against the assault so covered in an unnatural sweat she hurried down the steps leading to the well and leaned against the edge just a moment to catch her breath. She turned to face the door and her vision doubled and her head pounded as she fell back into the weightlessness of time.

When she landed at the bottom of the well she was in so much pain she could no longer hold her screams in. Every bone in her body felt like it was breaking and reforming over and over again, it was complete agony. The pain was too much, tears leaked out of her eyes as her hands clawed at the soil in the bottom of the well.

She felt her fingers shift and shorten, her legs break and reform, her eyes closed against her will and she didn't know if she would open them again.

When her eyes finally did open the minor details that she would have never seen before were perfectly clear to her eyes now. She could feel her nose twitch as her claws dug into the earth below her. She looked up at the sky and saw that dawn was breaking and began to panic when she tried to make her body function like normal but it wasn't obeying her. She looked around and saw scraps of cloth which looked like her clothes when she reached out her arm to touch the cloth she finally noticed the paw where her hand should be and the shiny black fur now covering said paw and arm.

She silently mourned the loss of the clothes she was wearing, and shakily she stood on all fours and contemplated on how to scale the walls of the well. After finding no ways for her to scale the walls she flopped down on the ground discouraged. Her eyes closed and she drifted off to sleep with the slightly warm sun beating down on her fur in the cool well.
