A/N: Hello there again. I've got another short one-shot for you. Yep, short and sweet. Enjoy!

OOOOOOOOO

Adam smiled as he looked down at his phone as he stood at the pump beside his truck, waiting for his tank to fill up. His girlfriend, Dixie, was trying to get his attention with a video call and he could never say no to her. It had been over two weeks since he had last seen her and all of a sudden, her bright brown doe eyes were looking at him from beneath her soft blonde bangs as she leaned down in front of the camera. Adam smiled at her and gave her a wink as he leaned against his truck, watching her as she bounced slightly in front of the camera.

"Hi honey," she purred, chewing on her plump bottom lip.

"Hey Sugar," Adam said, wishing he could nom on that lip instead. "What are you doing up so late?"

"Missing my man," Dixie said, wiggling her feet in the background. "You've been gone for so long, Adam."

"It's only been two weeks, Dix."

"Two weeks is long enough for you to forget about this ugly mug and find a new model," Dixie muttered, resting her chin on her arm. "Someone young and athletic. With big boobies and a curvy booty."

Adam lifted an eyebrow, ignoring the click of the pump as it finished. "Dixie Blake, you take that back right now. There is nothing wrong with your boobs and booty. I happen to love both of them very much."

Dixie stared at him without really seeing him, kicking at air with her bare feet. "You say that now, but you'll get bored of me when you're surrounded by people like Bliss and her kind. I don't compare." She rolled over and held the phone up in the air. "I am just here while you're there and soon you'll be there and forget about me."

"Never."

"Uh-huh. Sure."

Adam shook his head. "I'm never forgetting about you, Dixie. Not even when I'm on the road all the time. Trust me."

"I trust you," Dixie told him with tears smarting her eyes. "I love you so much, Adam. I just wanted to hear your voice and see your face tonight…Come…Come home to me, okay? Come home safely and…yeah. I'm…I'm going to be waiting for you."

"Get some rest, love," Adam urged, finally paying attention to the pump again. "I'll be coming home to you as soon as I can."

The video went dead and Adam shoved his phone back in his pocket. He looked towards the gas station and got an idea.

OOOOOOOOOOO

Two Years Earlier

Adam entered the small café to get out of the rain and grab a quick cup of coffee to go after a house show. He glanced around at the art on the walls and the colorful fares that were for sale and guessed this was an Indy coffee shop and that he might get a decent cup of coffee. After three people moved through the line, he was able to make it to the barista at the counter and he stared at her for a moment, mesmerized.

Her long soft blonde hair was swept back in a French braid and she had bright brown doe eyes surrounded by soft silver eyeshadow and brown eyeliner. She had the most kissable looking lips that Adam had ever seen and a body that just begged to be cradled against his. Her nametag said Dixie which suited her and she offered him a warm smile as he stared at her.

"Well, hi there," she said brightly. "Welcome to Reality Wednesdays. What can I do you for, cutie?"

Cutie? Adam thought with what he hoped wasn't a dumb grin. "I'll take a tall mocha latte."

"Whipped cream?" Dixie asked, scribbling on a green cup in curly handwriting.

"No thank you."

"Manners, how thoughtful." She smiled at him. "How about your name, honey?"

"Adam C."

"Well, Adam, your drink should be coming out in about five minutes. Do you think you can wait that long for some good java? We had a bit of a rush before you came in and these are some of our cranky regulars." She rolled her eyes and shared a smile with him as he paid for his coffee. "You can pick from any of our comfiest tables to sit at and I don't know, browse our selection of goods. If you need anything, I'm about to jump off the counter duty for my break in a bit."

Adam leaned against the counter. "So, does that mean I can share a coffee with you?"

Dixie leaned close to him and her eyes danced. "Possibly. If you're a good boy."

"Sugar, if you wanted a good boy, you came to the wrong person. I'm only good when I feel like it."

"Then I guess I better make you feel like being good," Dixie said with a wink. She danced back and unhooked her apron. "Tonya! Deric! I'm going on break! See that everyone gets their coffees on time. I'll be back in thirty."

Adam smiled and walked away to wait for his coffee and hoped to get more. And so he did.

OOOOOOOOOO

For over two years, Adam and Dixie had dated after many trips to her café and moving her into his house. She had never known that he was a famous wrestler, thinking that he was just the kind of person that had to travel for work until he explained and showed her the videos that were taken of him. Now she was an avid fan of the WWE and watched it all the time, cheering for him and her other favorites. Adam had taken her to several events, but because of her anxiety, she couldn't always travel with him on the road and needed to stay home most of the time. The café was her safety zone and even that was a stress for her. He had paid close attention and seen that most of the bestselling paintings on the wall, were hers and that she could make a decent living selling her art if she wanted to. Hell, some of his coworkers had bought her art and commissioned her for pieces.

What I wouldn't give to keep her smiling forever, Adam thought, gripping his steering wheel and glancing at his phone as he drove.

There were messages that she had sent after the video call that he had tried to respond to. Some were just pictures of her dancing around the house, playing with their dogs, dressed in one of his t-shirts and booty shorts, just random pictures to remind him that he needed to come home to her and be next to her again. And there was no place he'd rather be.

To smell the lavender of her hair. Feel the warmth of her skin. Hold her tiny body against his in their giant bed and feel her breathing against his side. To get her kisses in the morning and make her pancakes in the morning. A random drive in the afternoon. Anything and everything. All the things that he missed out on when he was on the road.

Come home, Adam…I miss you…

I miss you too, Dixie. It's just a little while longer. I'm only a few cities over. Get some rest. I'll be home soon and I'll let myself in…

I can stay up. I don't need to sleep as much as I need to see you again. I can put on some coffee?

Dix, get some rest. You've been up since four. Go get some sleep. I'll be there in no time…

Adam opened the door to the house and his three dogs came running up to greet him. He greeted them with soft words and plopped his bags on the counter before kicking off his shoes in the kitchen. The Superstar moved through the house and upstairs, taking them two at a time with the dogs in tow. The bedroom door was ajar, but the room was dark. Adam opened it and slid inside, looking at the bed.

Dixie was curled up on the bed, one of her hands stretched out on his pillow, the other curled to her chest, holding her phone. Her face looked troubled in her sleep and it hurt Adam's heart to see it that way. The Superstar moved across the room and perched himself on the bed, easing her phone out of her hand and placed it on the bedside table. Dixie roused when he moved on the bed and pulled her into his arms.

"Adam?" she whispered, blinking her eyes sleepily.

"Yeah, it's me, Sugar," Adam told her quietly, tracing the curve of her cheek with light fingertips. "I'm home." He pulled her closer to him in his arms. "I've got you where you belong, Dix. You're safe. Get some sleep."

Dixie nuzzled her face against his chest and wrapped her arms around him. "I'm so glad you're home," she murmured with a small yawn. "I gotta tell you something…"

"What's that?"

"I quit the coffee shop…"

Adam blinked. "No shit?"

"No shit."

"What are you going to do instead, Dix?"

Dixie yawned and stretched against him. "Paint things."

Adam thought for a moment. "Travel with me too?"

The blonde nodded sleepily. "I'll try to travel with you too, yep. We'll make this work. But mostly paint. It makes me happy."

"Okay."

She squeezed him. "You make me happy."

Adam pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "I love you, Dixie."

"Love you too," Dixie murmured, nuzzling into him again as she fell asleep in the protective circle of his arms.

A/N: I'm writing right now to distract myself from the pain of a broken heart. So forgive me for the length of some of my one-shots at this point. And I'm struggling to get back into the writing mood. So that's two things against me. Leave a comment at the end. Thanks. -Scarlet
