Slight crossover with Harry Potter.

I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh or Harry Potter! I have been reading a lot of stories in which Seto and Joey were lovers in Ancient Egypt. The love is either carried over to the modern day or due to magic Seth or both of them are bought to the modern era. This just pops into my head.

A town with two-story buildings. She plays with dolls and dices with other girls and boys her age. Her family is not wealthy, but happy. Despite the different building structures, she recognizes the land. Italy, her homeland.

She goes to a primary school with her friends. She is a fast learner, one of the best. She wants to do more but is told it isn't necessary because she is a girl. This is the first time her gender hinders her interests, but it won't be the last

She watches with longing as soldiers train, their blades flashing. She wants to do that. But she is turned down because she is a girl.

She learns how to spin yarn, weave cloth, and keeps a house clean. She learns how to run a household. Her favorite are the music lessons. She recognizes several of the songs.

She is fifteen on the verge of getting married. She didn't want to. He was a man three times her age and was only after her for her beauty. But she had to because she is under her father's control. Her fiancé is the richest man in their town and a noble. If she refuses, her family would be driven out. She whacks into the rabbit (her fiancé sends it) with all her strength cutting all the way down to the cutting broad. She smiles grimly as she yanks the knife out of the wood.

Her hometown is destroyed by pirates. Her mother and father are killed along with her younger sister and brother. As she is chained and shoved into a crowded ship with the other captives, the only solace she had was she at least managed to kill the pirates who killed her family with a gladius she had taken from one of the soldiers, and her fiancé was dead.

Egypt is hot. The air is dry. All she can see is endless sand. She misses the mountains of Rome. The Egyptian palace is huge. She and the other slaves are brought into the throne room. They are forced to kneel. She fought but is forced down. She glares at the entire sacred court from under her bangs. She hates the nobles. They always taken from those beneath them. Her fiancé was the best example. She hopes she is put somewhere where she doesn't have to see any nobles like the kitchens. No luck. A tall man with eyes as blue, like the sapphire bracelet her fiancé give her, and just as cold chose her to be his personal slave. She screams in front of everyone that there was no way in hell she was serving him. She would never sleep with him. The pirate slaps her quiet. She bites him in return. She hears one of the other priests said that she was wild, and this was a bad idea. Unfortunately, this just makes blue-eyed man likes her even more. He said he would have fun taming her. She starts to struggle more and was knocked out. When she wakes up in, which she would later realizes was her new master's room, she hopes that her future won't be too hard. She couldn't escape. Where could she go? Her home and family were gone.

No such luck. Her new master is even worse than her fiancé. He orders her around. Given the fact she was now a slave, she could accept that. What she couldn't accepts was the insults he throws at her. Their arguments soon become legendary in the palace. Eventually the pharaoh bans them from fighting outside Seth's chambers after the sunset because they kept everyone in the palace up one too many times when they were trying to sleep. Many nobles try to stop her, but Seth drives them off. Some nobles also try to get her in bed. She fights back. Seth protects her since she was his personal slave. The nobles eventually stop after she kicks one in the groin for trying to force a kiss on her.

As time went on her feelings towards her master changes. She stills hates him, but she can see some good things about him. He was loyal to the pharaoh and crown prince. He was highly intelligent. She was filled with envy as he learns about magic and swordsmanship. He was very handsome. Despite that and the countless noble ladies after him, he never taken anyone to his bed. From the rumors she heard, he had never taken anyone to his bed. He also never forces her to sleep with him or get physical with her. She may even consider herself in love if her fear and hatred of being considered property to a man wasn't so strong.

A year and half passes. One day after a particular bad argument, in which she called him a cold heartless asshole who only cares about himself and who people only want to be around was because of his body and position, Seth got really drunk at the evening feast. It was the first time she saw him get drunk. Later she found out this was the first time he was ever drunk. Lord Akhenaden orders her to take her master back to his chambers. She did as order. She managed to get him to his chambers without too much trouble. She started to remove his clothing (because sleeping in that outfit was not comfortable) when he pulls her to his chest. She panics thinking he was going to rapes her. What he does instead startles her. In slightly drunken speech, Seth confesses his love for her and kisses her. She didn't know why, perhaps due to the wine Lady Isis shared with her before Seth had get drunk, but she kisses him back. That night Josephina loses her virginity and heart to Seth. Joey blushes in her body. In vino veritas, indeed.

The next morning, the two of them wake up to found themselves curl around each other, naked. Seth didn't remember much of the previous night. He uncharacteristically fusses over her thinking that he had raped her. She reassures him that wasn't the case. Then, in a moment of boldness, she asks if he meant what he said about loving her. He blushes but told her that he had loved from the moment he sees her because of her defiance. She, in turns admits she does have feelings for him, but she was afraid to acts on them. She tells him about her fiancé who sees her as a prize to be win and not as a person. Her hatred and fear for high-ranking men come from him. Seth was horrific when he learns of her past. He promises to treat her as a person if she will give him a chance. She agrees.

Seth was actually a good man. He treats her well, despite her status as a slave. He indulges her in her interests despite how odd they were. When she shows interest in his studies, he taught her what he knows. Seth taught her how to uses a sword, a curved blade, khopesh, not like the straight-blades, gladius, of Rome. It feels weird, but at least she gets to use a blade. She still does her job as his personal slave.

Seth was a cold man, but it was to protect himself from these who covet his position and who resents his lowly birth. He was arrogant, but he had the talents and skills to back it up. He was cruel, but only to criminals. She knew that it was because he was willing to go to extremes to do his duty and protects the people he cares about. The more she sees of the Egyptian court, the more she sees that cruelty is a part of it, no matter how some people will try to hide it.

They still argue, but it was more subdued now. She grew more and more attached to him. In time, she hates being away from him more than necessary. Her entire heart become his before she knew it. More and more she shares his bed every night.

Two years passes. Pharaoh Aknamkanon dies and his son, Prince Atem takes the throne. On the day of his coronation, a thief attack. From the shadows, she watches as somehow, he was able to defeat all seven Guardians. That night, she worries about Seth's injuries. Despite his reassurances everything would be alright, she was still worried.

The next day, he brought a pale woman back with him from town. He explains that she was being stoned and asked her to take care of her. She agrees. As she takes care of the woman, she can't help but wonder what country she was from, with such pale skin and hair. The woman, who she later learns was named Kisara, become great company in the days that follow.

They both had terrible pasts. While Josephina had been mocked for her interests in skills for men, Kisara had always been shunned because of her appearance. Josephina finds that ridiculous due to the fact she is most likely a foreigner or one of her parents was. The two became friends. One of their favorite topics was Seth. Josephina tells her of how they become lovers. Kisara approves of their relationship.

Josephina was confused when Kisara was dragged out of bed when she was only starting to recover. Lately that day, Kisara was returned in horrible condition. She confronts Seth about what had happened. Seth only told her to watch over Kisara, and if the guards ever tried that again, to use her khopesh on them. Josephina was getting more and more worried. Just what was going on? It seems that there wasn't only a battle against Bakura, but also some unseen conflict in the Pharaoh's court. Kisara had only barely recovers when the guards come back. She tried to make them leave, even using her khopesh on them. But they knocked her out. When she come to, she was just in time to see Lord Akhenaden ripped a white dragon from Kisara, killing her. She tries to stop him but is sent to the Shadow Realm. From the Shadow Realm she can only watches the events.

The white dragon is sealed. Kisara dies protecting Seth. Seth scopes Kisara up. Josephina can only barely hear her said to Seth "I wish you and Josephina eternal happiness. I promise I will always guide you two back to each other."

She can only watch in horror as her master, under the influence of Zorc, fights the Pharaoh. Kisara's spirit managed to remove the darkness within Seth and release her from the Shadow Realm. Later she watches as her master and the Pharaoh battles against Zorc the Dark One. They managed to seal him, but a great cost. Her master is made the new Pharaoh and give the task of rebuilding Egpyt. Thankfully much of the damage had been confined to the capital city, so rebuilding wasn't much of a problem. What was a problem was the threat of invasion by other countries. To solve it, Seth marries a princess of Libya and made her his queen.

The nights after the engagement was decided, Seth made love to her fiercely, whispering apologies. She whispers reassurances back, telling him she understands. She would never ask him to put his country at risk for her. Despite her initial homesickness, she had come to see Egypt as her home, and she will do what she can to protect it. He told her many secrets of magic and the Shadow Realm, something she had always wanted to know, but had been forbidden to. Now that the Shadow Realm was all but sealed and Seth was Pharaoh, he could tell her. He warns her Atem's name must be forgotten since it can be used to awake Zorc again. She shivers at the idea of that monster being unleashed again.

Despite knowing that she can't never be Seth's legal wife, Josephina wilts whenever she sees them together. She knew that with their different status they can't never be together, but it doesn't make it easier, seeing the man she loves with another woman. Her friends help her through it. It also helps that only she is allowed to sleep in Seth's bed. Seth always visits the queen in her chambers. She is never invited into Seth's.

Seth wanted to make her his first concubine, but she refuses. She doesn't want to deal with Egyptian court directly instead in the shadows like she is now. She can't gather information for him from the shadows if she is a concubine. Seth accepts that and just give her a gold necklace with a blue dragon pendant on it. Choosing not to be Seth's concubine was probably the wisest decision she ever made. Seth's queen was very jealous and possessive of him. It was similar to how possessive Seth was of her, but much more vicious. Josephine watches in horror as Seth's queen and concubines battle for his favor. The concubines usually ended up losing and being humiliated. It really scares and sadden her. She learns that women could be just as vicious as men if not more, and that she can deal with Seth being with his concubines more than his legal wife.

Seth's queen's possessiveness and jealously didn't just harm his concubines, it also harms her. Suspicion fall on her because she was Seth's personal slave, and everyone knows he treasures her. She was whipped on some pretense, before Seth saves her. Afterwards the queen was locked in her chambers. Seth spends the free time taking care of her personally and worrying about what to do. He couldn't afford to offend Libya, but he didn't want her to leave his side. Josephina thought back to an idea she had when she wanted to be solider. She will just dress as a boy. A male would be less of a threat to the queen. Seth could spread the rumor that he sent her away. Seth agrees to give a try. So, she started binding her chest, and using an illusion on her hair to make it shorter. It was a good thing Seth's queen wasn't very bright. The plan works out great. Thank Ra. Seth's queen was pleased he sent that "filthy commoner" away (Seth nearly strangle her for that.) Josephina gets to stay with Seth.

Three years into Seth's reign, a daughter of the Roman emperor had been sent as a concubine. Seth has sent her to help welcome her into the palace. Dressed in a new skirt with a blue belt, she welcomes the princess and helps directed her servants and slaves to her chambers. She became good friends with the Roman slaves and servants. They enjoyed telling her stories of Rome. Through her heart now belongs to Seth and Egypt, she still misses her birth country. The princess, through arrogant, softens towards her when she heard that she was taken from Rome. The princess shows off her dowry to her and brags about the achievements her father has done to improve Rome, in her own attempt to comfort her. The princess didn't want to marry Seth but did so for Rome. When she saw how much Seth was looking at Josephina when he visits her chambers, she strikes a deal with him. As long as he impregnates her and don't touch her afterwards, she will let him be with Josephina in her chambers. He agrees. A few months later, the Roman princess was pregnant with Seth's child. Rumors spread about how much the Pharaoh dotes on his new concubine. The three of them laughs or smirks at these rumors in private. Unfortunately, these rumors reach Seth's queen. Blinded by jealously, since Seth hadn't visited her once since the Roman princess arrives, she decides that as his legal wife she deserves to bare Seth's first child. She somehow manages to forget that she had miscarries her last two children and causes the last few pregnant concubines to miscarry too (no solid evidence, but everyone knows it was her.) Seth wasn't happy since Egypt was impatient for an heir. Libya wasn't pleased since Egypt was growing more powerful and had more allies. They needed the alliance with Egypt more than Egypt need the alliance with them now. Seth threatened to break off the alliance if he doesn't get an heir within a year.

The day she is killed was a perfect sunny day. Seth and Josephina were kissing in the Roman princess' s chambers. The Roman princess was examining some bolts of cloth for baby clothes, when the queen was announced. Josephina hurriedly got off of Seth's lap. She fixes her clothes. Seth moves towards the Roman princess, hugging her. The queen stomps in with her entourage. Josephina assumes from the queen's expression that this wouldn't be a pleasant visit. Instantly she bows her head not wanting to get involved. The entire atmosphere was full of tension. The queen started shrieking like one of the mythological harpies she heard about. The Roman princess counteracts with the calm precision of her station. Seth orders her to stop making such a big scene. Josephina watches in horror as the queen loses her temper and screech like a madwoman snatches a sword from one of her guards. She ran towards the princess, intent on stabbing her in the stomach. Seth steps in front of the princess, protecting her and their unborn child. She acts on instinct and dives in front of Seth, causing the sword to sink into her stomach instead. She didn't realize what had happened, until the pain registers and she sink to the floor.

"Josephina!" Two voices shout. Seth gently gathers her in his arms, trying not to worsen her wound. "Hold on, the healer is coming!" The sword is gently yanked out of her, causing her blood to flow on to the floor. The healer arrives. The healer tried to get Seth out of the way, but she already knows it is too late for her.

"I love you, Seth," Her vision blackens. The last thing she saw was Seth's face filled with worry for her and denial that she is dying.

Joey jerks awake, her chest panting. Looking away she can see she was in the infirmary of Kaiba's Battle Ship. She holds her racing head in her hands.

"What was that?" She thinks." Memories of a past life." Her mind supplies. It should have been ridiculous, but she was a witch. Her entire maternal family had magic for generations. She had gone to school with other magical children for as long as she can remember. She had commuted between the magical and non-magical world ever since she was 5. Magic had been a part of her life, long before Yugi solves the Millennium Puzzle and introduces Shadow Magic to her. Besides if Yugi and Bakura could be reincarnations of a Pharaoh and a Tomb robber respectively, despite their different personalities, why can't she be the reincarnation of a Roman slave? Her family could trace its origins back to Ancient Rome, so at least she had some of sort of connection to Josephina, even if it is just their homeland.

It would also explain a lot about why she was so drawn to Duel Monsters, despite the fact she was more of a sports person. Tristan and a lot of her magical friends tease her that it was because she was into Magical Dueling and though it would be something similar. She laughs with them, but deep down she knows it wasn't the case. She also gets weird feelings about Shadow Magic sometimes. It was why she calms Tristan when he panics about Ancient Egyptian magic (most mages associate these words with curses.) It was why she tries to persuade the Japanese Ministry to hold off until they know what they were dealing with (she didn't need to try very hard since that was standard procedure when dealing with foreign magic.) It may even explain her small crush on Kaiba. "Or you are desperate for a reason why you are attached to him." The logical part of her brain said. She likes his drive to succeed, intelligence and love for his little brother. It helps that he's easy on the eyes. His personality through could uses a lot of work. Thinking about Seto brought her mind back to Seth. She blushes as she remembers all the nights they spend together.

Images of Marik misusing the Millennium Rod run in her mind. Joey got off the bed ready to marches up to Marik and snatches it back. She was also tempted to stab him with it and maybe throw a few fireballs at him to finish the job. But she stops. A memory of Seth telling her about the Millennium Rod flooded her mind.

Seth and Josephina are in his room, on his large bed, both naked. Josephina is examining the Millennium Rod under Seth's watchful eyes. She unsheathes the blade in its staff, looking at it with curiosity. It was very sharp.

"Aren't you scared it will get stolen and uses against you?" Josephina hands the Millennium Rod back to Seth and snuggles against his bare chest.

"No, even if someone takes it won't work for them. The Shadows will punish him for theft. You must win it in a shadow game." Seth kisses Josephina.

"Okay, bad idea," Joey thought even as her body aches all over and she was forced to laid back down. It wasn't just her body. Her magic was also flaring. It was not escaping her, but it was flooding her magical coils. She starts to use the calming exercises her grandfather taught her to control her magic. Once she gets her magic under control, she sighs. Looks like she won't be releasing the final seal on her magic any time soon. Moving her body into a more comfortable position, she plots. She knew Yugi or the pharaoh would win against Kaiba. Then he would fight against Marik. When he wins, she would find a way to get it.

Luck was on her side. After the pharaoh won, the Millennium Rod glows and blows itself out of Marik's hand. Acting quickly, she flings some of her magic at it, making it invisible. Tracking her magic, she uses it to drags the Millennium Rod to her and places it in her backpack, unseen by anyone.

The first night, back in Domino City, Joey examines the Millennium Rod. She remembers more about Seth and their love. Toying with it, she wonders if she shouldn't give it to Yugi. After all, he was collecting them to help bring the pharaoh's memories back. She knows it is the right thing to do but she didn't want to. The new part of her that was Josephina snarls "it belongs to Seth." It was the only thing she had left of Seth. She doesn't want to give it up. It was selfish, but she didn't care. It was her secret, her love.

Notes:

Everyone in the palace was basically watching the romance played out. It was interesting seeing the cold priest fight so heatedly with his slave. Bets were placed as to when they will start sleeping together.

The wine Isis give Josephina had a potion in it that removes her inhibition. Everyone heard their latest argument. All the priests were worried about Seth as they can see that Josephina's words hit him hard. The arguments were staying to take its toll on Seth, because it was pushing Josephina further and further away from him. They can see Josephina has feelings for Seth too, even if she herself don't.

In vino veritas is Latin for "in wine lies the truth" It suggests a person under the influence of alcohol is more likely to speak their hidden thoughts and desires.

Josephina knows that slaves have practically no rights and are viewed basically as property. Being married and considered property of her husband was already bad enough.

Kisara stay with Josephina instead of leaving like in the anime because Josephina wanted her to recover more and also the guards were blocking them from leaving on orders from Akhenaden. Seth couldn't override his commands.

The battles only take place near the Egyptian Palace and in some already deserted parts of the country, so I imagined the physical damage isn't very bad in terms of the overall country. It is calming the people and ensuring nearby countries don't take the chance to attack that is the problem.

Joey doesn't strike me as ambitious and either is Josephina. She is loyal to the ones she loved, and she refuses to put the people of Egypt at stake for her selfish desires.

Check Dueling in Harry Potter

Ra's fire spills into Josephine's own magic, so she is having trouble with it. She also has a portion of it seal up, because like Mahado, it was so strong it threatens to overwhelm her body. Her grandfather seals it up. As Joey grows up, the seal slowly deteriorates. She can access all of her magic when her body is fully matures.

Joey is too influenced by Josephina's memories at this point. Josephina didn't have much of an impression of the pharaoh. She sends the majority of her time in Seth's chambers or temples, or with him. She knows Yami as the next pharaoh, but they may as well be strangers. Her loyalty and love belong to Seth. She wants the Millennium Rod because it belongs to Seth and if he can't use it, then no one can.
