Chapter 1

Back to Balamb

Seifer Almasy peered up at the large cone-shape structure in front of him and frowned, he tilted his neck up towards the sky and studied the large glowing halo at the top of the building. He took a deep breath, gripped the left strap of his backpack and strolled down the stony walkway towards the Front gates. Balamb Garden wasn't his home anymore and he still had a lot of pent up rage and resentment towards the place, and he was sure the students and instructors were going to have a lot of rage and resentment against him too. He had done a lot of horrible and unforgivable things to Balamb and not only Balamb, but to Esthar, Galbadia, Trabia, fuck the whole world probably wanted his head on a silver platter, but did he even care? Fuck no. He knew the truth behind on the horrible deeds he did, and so did the courts. He was lucky they didn't throw him in the D-District Prison for the rest of his life.

The trial had been a long and tedious one, the officials weren't sure if he had done those things on his own free will or if that bitch had truly mind-fucked him, which he knew that was the case. It was like his body had been in auto-pilot and he was in the passengers seat, along for the ride. Nobody was ever going to understand what it was like for you to lose control over your own body, he never wanted to kill those people, or cut off the limbs of the Galbadia soldiers who disobeyed him or made him mad, or just looked at him funny, but none of it mattered to him now. Hell, this shit hole didn't even matter to him, what was Cid Kramer trying to pull in sending him a letter in the mail requesting a meeting. How the hell did the old fool even know he was living on the outskirts of Balamb, mooching off Fujin and Raijin.

His two best friends in the entire world, actually Fujin and Raijin were his only friends, probably the only people in the world that could stand to be around him. Everyone in the world avoided him like the plague. Everywhere he went there were whispers and gossip , words such as lapdog, traitor, murderer, even mommy fucker, they were all shot in his direction, but he didn't give a flying fuck.

A security checkpoint barred Seifer's path as he reached the end of the walk way. A young man with chestnut brown hair nearly choked on his coffee as Seifer came to a stop at the inner gate. No way in hell this idiot was going to let him pass without a fight, even though he had his old student ID on him for inspection.

"Hey Derek? What up shithead" Seifer greeted with a cocky grin.

"The hell you doing here, Almasy?" Derek growled, "Animals are not permitted on Garden grounds."

"Lucky for me, I aint no damn animal and I have an appointment with the headmaster" Seifer says holding out his ID. He glances at the clock that hangs behind Derek's head in the small office. It was well past noon which meant he was late for the appointment, oh well he would blame this dumb shit at the inner gate for delaying him and refusing him admittance.

"Like I'll believe anything you have to say Lapdog, your not getting in this building."

Seifer opens his mouth to retaliate, but is cut short as a deep and all too familiar voices interrupts the two of them. "It's alright Derek, Let him in he does have an appointment with the headmaster." Came the deep voice of none other than Squall Leonhart. Cyan eyes and stormy gray ones met for the first time in months, there was a certain look of resentment in Squall's eyes as he stood there with his arms crossed, studying his rival.

Derek snatched Seifer's ID from his hands and scanned the bar code, the silence between the three of them was thick, and uncomfortable. The inner gate clicked open, an indication he had permission to pass through and enter. Seifer snatched his ID back from Derek, shooting him a smirk as he made his way pass the gates and over towards Squall's side. The commanders grey eyes bored into his Cyan ones with such hatred that it almost made him nervous, but fuck that Seifer Almasy never got nervous, and he never gave a flying fuck about anything before, so why care now.

"Headmaster Cid was expecting you around noon. It's almost one." Squall slightly scolded him. "I need to search your backpack before we proceed to the Lobby." Seifer rolled his eyes and shrugged the bags strap off his shoulder, tossing the gray pack to the floor at the commanders feet.

"Search away, Puberty boy." Seifer smirked.

Squall found nothing but clothes, and a pocket knife. He confiscated the blade, stashing it into the inside pocket of his jacket. Squall turned and motioned for Seifer to follow him down the vanilla tiles, Seifer silently trailed behind him gazing down at the familiar tiles of the floor, he stepped on the blues ones that littered the center, and peered around the all too familiar ring-shaped lobby.

Fuck am I doing back here in this shit hole. This isn't my home, never has been and never will be. These people are my enemies, once they figure out I'm back all hell is going to break lose. Do I care though, nah not really. I don't give a shit about anything anymore. I'll hear what Cid has to say and be done with it.

Seifer ran his hands across the top of the plants that were pushed up against the side of the wall and plucked out a couple of there green leaves. He peered down at the fountain below them and flicked the leaves into the cool watery depths. The one thing that really irked him about Garden was its layout. The entire thing was ring-shaped and branches off into circular sections like wheel spokes, and the fountain below them followed the circular path the entire way around the first floor.

The two rivals climb the stairs quietly and came to a halt in front of the steel doors of the elevator. Squall punched in a few buttons on the panel and the two of them waited in silence. Seifer ignored the students glares and whispers that were coming from a small crowd that had gathered at the foot of the stairs, it was as if their eyes were deceiving them, like they couldn't believe he was here. This was nothing new though, he was used to this kind of behavior from people and it didn't bother him. The elevator doors dinged open and the two of them entered the enclosed space. Squall pressed the 3F button and the double steel doors slammed shut.

"How's Rinoa?" Seifer asked attempting to break the silence, but in reality he was trying to get under Squall's skin and the look on Puberty-boys face told him it was working.

"None of your business." Squall growled.

Seifer placed a hand over his heart and feigned being hurt by Squall's harsh reply. " Ouch, such hostility commander Pubes, I was merely curious is all. Think she will be happy I'm back. How bout chicken-wuss, think he will be happy to see me? Cant wait to throw him into the fountain haven't done that is so long. How bout the cowboy and messenger-girl, how they doing."

Squall turned towards Seifer and placed a threatening index finger in his face. "Listen you don't get to mention any of them, especially not Rinoa, don't even look in her direction or breathe her name, in fact don't breathe any of their names. Nobody is glad your hear."

Seifer crossed his arms over his chest and smirked cockily at Squall. "You entertain me, pubes. Like I give two fucks about your friends and your stupid girlfriend, or this place for that matter."

"Then why are you even here? Huh? Cid is making a mistake reaching out to you like this. Tell me something, Seifer. We're you really mind-control or was that all an act, because following her and betraying us would be something you would do."

"Watch your mouth, Puberty-boy." Seifer growled.

The elevator doors dinged open and Squall stepped out of the enclosed space. The two of them pass through the double doors and enter the Headmasters office. Cid sits at the wooden desk, papers are scattered across the surface, and a cup of coffee sits at the headmasters left side. Cid holds up his index fingers and spins in his chair so his back is to the boys, he mumbles something to the person om the other end of the phone, spins again and places the receiver back onto the base.

"Ahh, Seifer, you were expected around noon." Cid said folding his hands neatly and placing them in front of him on the desk. "It is unprofessional to be late, but I expect no less from you."

Seifer snorted and dipped his hand into the inside pocket of his trench coat, pulling out a thin piece of paper, which was the letter he had received in the mail a couple days ago. How the headmaster Cid knew where to send it was a complete mystery to him, but he figured he would hear what the old man had to say.

"Sit down Seifer." Cid commanded, He turn to Squall and saluted the commander. "That will be all commander." Squall nodded and saluted the Headmaster back, shot Seifer one last nasty look and hiked back through the double doors of the office. Seifer smiled to himself, pleased he was at least able to get under puberty-boys skin, he always took pleasure in pissing the idiot off and it seemed like he was the only one able to do it. They were rivals for a reason, both of them hated each other.

Cid cleared his throat and peered over his horn-rimmed frames. "It has come to my attention that on the 18th of September you were undergoing a trial in the D-District prison, am I correct."

Seifer rolled his eyes and nodded in confirmation. "Yeah, and?"

"The Galbadia nation government found you not guilty, as did Esthar and so did Balamb. The only continent that had found you guilty was Trabia, but majority rules, and you are dropped of all charges."

"I already know all this, what I don't get is why you feel the need to contact me." Seifer frowned.

Cid ignored him and continued, "The verdict stated you were brainwashed and mind-control like Miss. Heartily and so many others. Ultimecia had control over you the entire time."

"No shit." Seifer was getting aggravated he didn't need Cid to tell him something he already knew.

"Watch your mouth and tone when you are speaking with me." Cid hissed, pointing a threatening finger in his direction, Cid held Seifer's glare for a couple seconds then folded his hands against the desk again. "I am willing to give you a second chance at becoming a SeeD. Assign you a personal mentor and tutor, that will help you properly study and evaluate you. "

Seifer burst out laughing and rose from his chair. "Thanks, but I'm good. I really don't want anything to do with this place or its people. Why the hell would you even offer me this after everything I have done, nobody will accept this decision."

"Your are an exceptionally gifted gunblade specialist, and I feel there are opportunities here for you that will point you in the right direction. Everyone deserves a second chance Seifer, I know things have been hard for you since everything has happened, but think of this as an opportunity to get things back on track."

Seifer paced back and forth across the floor with his hands tucked behind his back and a smug look on his face. What the hell was Cid thinking offering him something like this. Why did Cid even care if he took his life and shoved it down the toilet, everything he has done to this place, done to the students and faculty, it cannot be forgiven. Yeah, he wasn't in control, he was in the passengers seat when that bitch made him do all those unspeakable things, but it was still his hands, his body that murdered, tortured and destroyed. He was a prick at times, yeah, but he never wanted to kill innocent people, never wanted to order the destruction of this place and Trabia. The whole world hated him for things he was forced to do and if he could go back in time; he would of stayed in detention and let the perfect princess and her mere band of idiot SeeDs fend for themselves, fuck Timber and fuck that immature bitch Rinoa.

Seifer thought long and hard for a moment, the silence in the room was eerie, if he did this and accepted Cid's offer, it would be like crawling back to the enemy with his dick between his legs, but then again he had nothing in his pathetic life but Fujin and Raijin, and he was getting awfully tired of sleeping on their couch, eating their food and lazing about the house everyday. Raijin and Fujin would never say anything to him because they knew he tried getting a job, tried helping them put food on the table, but the only thing he could contribute to the household was fresh fish, and the small amount of gil he made selling said fish. Nobody wanted to hire the sorceress's lapdog, nobody wanted to hire a traitor and murder. He truly was a loser and a moocher, No matter what Fujin and Raijin had said, 'Stay as long as you need too, ya know', or 'get back on your feet, ya know' or "Friends".

Seifer rubbed his temples in frustration and peered up at the Headmaster. "Fine, I'll do it, but I want a level 25 SeeD pay as soon as I pass the test."

Cid nearly choked on his coffee, he set the cup down and glared at Seifer. "Most I can do is level 5 pay rate. We will discuss the pay when the time comes. In the meantime you must listen to every word your mentor has to say, the evaluations might be extremely difficult to deal with, but I want a report on your mental state."

"Fine." Seifer grumbled.

"Excellent I will inform Miss. Trepe. She is one of our best SeeDs and will make a great mentor, but be sure to listen to every word she says, since you have already taken the SeeD examine several times you are well aware of what to expect."

Seifer's face fell as Cid mentions her name. Dread fills his entire body, he curls his fingers, making a fists, the nails digging into the palm of his hand. Quistis Trepe. Was it too late to back out, Tell Cid he had changed his mind? He couldn't bare the thought of coming face to face with her, not after he had tried to run Hyperion through her heart. This was a bad idea and he knew it, facing Quistis Trepe was like Facing the sorceress all over again, he wasn't sure he had the strength in him to look her in the eyes and see hatred . One thing was for damn sure this wasn't going to end well.

Quistis Trepe jogged down the ring-shaped of Balamb Garden's first floor. Sweat poured from her face, a fiery burn passed through the muscles in her legs, but she willed them to run faster even though they screamed for her to stop. Her long blonde hair was damp and pulled back into a messy bun, white headphone were nestled in her ears and the loud tune filled her ear drums. She finally came to a halt at the bottom of the stairs and took a deep breath, dropping her head between her legs. Quistis pressed the stop button on the iPod and stashed in away inside the pocket of her sweatpants. She wiped her forehead where a large amount of sweat had collected and took another deep breath. A tall figure caught her eyes as they descended the marble stairs leading to the elevator. Her mouth hung open in disbelief and she examined ever inch of the tall form of Seifer Almasy. It had been months since the last time she had saw him and in her opinion he hadn't changed very much. The thought of training and mentoring him filled her body with dread. She should of denied Cid's request, but the chance to get her license back if she successfully made him a SeeD was just too good of an opportunity to pass up, not to mention the large amount of Gil the headmaster will be paying her for every session.

Seifer stopped at the bottom of the stairs and that was when his rare cyan eyes met her ocean blues. They stared at each other for a long moment, neither one of them saying anything. The expression on his face was stoic, unreadable, she couldn't tell if he was angry to see her, one of the legendary six to defeat the sorceress Ultimecia.

Seifer was the first to break the silence. "Instructor, what a not so pleasant surprise." He adjusted his backpack on his left shoulder and continued to stare stoically at her.

"You've declined Cid's request?" Quistis asked him hopefully.

"Well nice to see you too instructor." Seifer crossed his arms over his chest and shot her a nasty look. "Can't say hi to your favorite student? Cutting right to the chase eh, Are you hoping you don't have to train me."

Quistis torn her eyes away from his and peered down at the dark blue tile. "I was just wondering is all. Hi Seifer." She muttered the last part sarcastically.

"Well since its so hard for someone like me to get a job around Balamb town, I decided to give this place another try. Frankly, I'm getting tired of bumming off my friends. Headmaster Cid told you already?" He questions her.

Quistis bit her bottom lip and lifted her head in order to look at him again and nodded. "Yes, I've known way before he even sent that letter to you."

"And you were praying I wouldn't show." There was an intense silence between the two of them, all they could do was stare at each other like they were still enemies fighting on different sides. She could still see the fury in his eyes as he swung Hyperion at her head and at her friends. Truth be told she had silently prayed he wouldn't respond to Cid's letter. She didn't trust him at all and would never trust him, nobody trusted the sorceress's lapdog, the ex-knight, the traitor, the murderer, people had so many names for him.

"I didn't say that." Quistis defended herself. "If I do this I get my license reinstated."

Seifer snickered, "And you go back to being a shit teacher."

"Your the only one who disturbed me all the time, refused to follow orders and never paid attention to a goddamn thing I had to say." Her cheeks redden in anger and she became aware she was standing toe to toe with him, her head tilted up so she could look into his cyan eyes. He was so much taller than she was standing at 6 foot 2 inches; 188cm, where she stood at mere 5 foot 6 inches;168cm.

"Good times." Seifer grinned deviously. "Don't you think?"

"Why are you even here? You think this is another game? Cid gave you another chance at becoming a SeeD because he seems to think your innocent, he is the only one to seem to think that. Now cut the shit, lose the playful, careless attitude and get serious about this." She growls in anger.

Seifer was silent for a moment, then a grin appeared across his face and he cocked his head and raised his brow. "You know, Instructor, your extremely hot when you get pissed."

Quistis rolled her eyes, let out a frustrated growl and brushed past him without another word. Before she stuck her earbuds back into her ears she could hear his aggravating chuckle and it pissed her off even more. Without another glance in his direction she started jogging again. This certainly was going to be a challenge, getting Seifer Almasy to follow the rules was going to be next to impossible, but she had to try, she was up for the challenge and by the time she was done with him he was going to be the best SeeD around, she would have her instructor license back and they would transfer his sorry ass to whatever Garden needed him the most, that is if anyone would take him.

Seifer watched Quistis jog away from him, her cheeks were red with anger, it was always fun to rile her up and he had been more than successful in doing so. He watched her jog until she rounded the corner and vanished from his sight. She was so gorgeous and he silently thanked Hyne he had gotten stuck with someone attractive. He had always been attracted to her, but was never able to do anything about it, Trepe was the kind of woman that wouldn't give him the time of day, hell she wouldn't give any of the men in Garden a glance, except for puberty-boy. Seifer frowned and began walking towards the exit, he gripped the strap of his backpack tightly as he thought of Squall. Perfect, piece of shit Puberty-boy had Quistis's attention and it pissed Seifer off so damn much, but it wasn't like she had his attention. No, Squall had the perfect princess, the two of them shared this great bond of love that made him want to puke all over the shiny floor. Love was for the weak and stupid, Seifer would much rather fuck the shit out of the bitch and then run for the hills which is what puberty-boy should do with Rinoa. No matter how hard Seifer tried he was never able to get into Rinoa's pants that summer. It was always one excuse after another and it had become annoying as fuck. He was kind of thankful the perky sorceress hadn't allowed him to do anything but kiss her, he most definitely didn't want to hear her whiny moans, Squall could have her, Seifer didn't give two shits about Rinoa anymore.

He made his way past Derek and the security checkpoint, all the way down towards the front gate and in that short period of time his thoughts were plagued with Quistis. He thought about the way her long blonde hair swayed back and forth in her ponytail as she jogged away from him, how she scowled at him with those beautiful blue eyes, how her tight sweatpants hugged that fine ass of hers. One thing was for damn sure and that he couldn't wait to start his lessons with her, couldn't wait to drive her insane, for once all her attention would be on him.

To be continued...
