A/N: Hello, readers!
I am here with my FIRST My Hero Academia fanfic! I have to admit, I'm a little nervous! I hope I'm able to do the series justice!
As the summary suggests, this will be a quirkless based story. Maybe, as I get more comfortable with the series, I will do one with the quirks in the future!
This is also a slash story involving Todoroki and Midoriya. I don't know, call me crazy, but I think they make a cute couple.
I tried to parallel a lot of this story with things from the Manga. Alrighty, I think that is enough babbling for right now! Hope you all enjoy it!
His Father's Eyes
Chapter 1: Puppet Master
Shouto Todoroki was raised to follow one motto: If you weren't first, then you were last.
From a young age, Shouto was always expected to strive for greatness. Being the best of the best. Anything less and he would be considered a failure.
Like his siblings.
Enji Todoroki, Shouto's father, pushed him in each and every area of his life. Shouto was expected to receive top grades and excel at sports and various other extra curricular activities. This would ensure him into an elite university and eventually guarantee Shouto's take over of his father's company: Endeavour Corporation.
Enji had started Endeavour Corp. from the ground up. Beginning his company shortly after leaving university (where he was one of the top students), Enji soon grew and expanded before eventually becoming one of the most sought after corporations in Japan.
(Second, only to: All Might Inc., however, that wouldn't last forever. Enji would make sure of that.)
Despite being the youngest of his family, Shouto's father saw his bright future that he had envisioned for his son. After deeming his older three children: Toya, Fuyumi, and Natsuo as failures, Enji ensured that Shouto would bring honor to their family; and to him.
Years Ago.
When Shouto was very young...
"One day, Shouto, this company will be all yours." Enji reaffirmed, placing a strong, commanding, hand on the shoulder of his youngest child.
Enji often brought Shouto to Endeavour Corp. in hopes of planting the seed of a business leader in his son starting young.
Shouto could feel the grip of his father's hand grow tighter on his shoulder. Unease crept through the boy's body as he brought his thumb to his mouth and began to suck. A nervous habit of his.
"Your siblings were all such a disappointment, Shouto. But, you-YOU will not let your father down, will you?" Enji's voice boomed, causing the young Todoroki to jump.
Shouto shook his head rabidly, his teeth grinding down-hard-on his thumb.
"Of course you wouldn't. You were always smarter than they were; and at such a young age! You were destined for greatness, my boy." Enji beamed, releasing his grasp on his son to give him three 'friendly' pats. Each one sent a chill down Shouto's spine.
Much of his family lived in fear of the elder Todoroki. His mother and all his siblings. Shouto had seen what happens when you bring shame to his father. His fiery rage. A rage that Shouto had only been on the receiving end of once. Leaving a lasting mark.
"We will not stop, Shouto, until you are the very best!" Enji declared, looking down at his child. "You are a lot like me, boy. You have that fire in you that will drive you to greatness. I can see it in you or eyes. You have my eyes."
Shouto removed his thumb from his mouth, "Yes, father."
Present Day.
Shouto had just arrived home from a day that consisted of school, cram school, and swim practice. Upon his return, it was brought to his attention-thanks to his mother-that Enji wished to see him in their father's at-home office.
No one was ever allowed to disturb Enji when he was in his office. Let alone go into those particular coordinates. However, Shouto was always a special circumstance.
Approaching the intimidating, large, double doors, Shouto raised a reluctant fist. Knocking softly.
"Yes?" Came the response. His father sounded irritated. Probably assumed it was his mother or one of his siblings.
"It is Shouto, father."
"You may come in." Almost instantly, Enji's tone seemed to evolve into a calmer demeanor.
"You wished to see me, sir?" Shouto commented, pushing open the door and making his way into the room. Closing the door behind him.
Shouto's eyes quickly found his father. As always, the business mogul was sitting behind his desk, working feverishly away on something important. It was always important.
"Yes, Shouto. Welcome home. Please, come, have a seat." Enji commanded, referring to the chair opposite him. Never once did the elder Todoroki's eyes leave his work.
Shouto nodded his head and did as he was told, taking residence in the chair. An awkward silence falling between the two. The only sound being heard was the keyboard's keys as Enji's fingers danced across them.
The keys came to an abrupt stop. "Shouto." His words demanded attention. Shoto obliged.
"As you know, my son, in a few months you will be 'll be viewed by society as an adult. This will be the start of the next chapter of your life." Enji started.
This wasn't anything new for Shouto. The impending future was something that the two discussed-and was brought up-quite often.
"Yessir."
"From here on out, each and every decision that you make will have a direct impact on the kind of future that we want to create for you. Eventually, it will be you behind this chair. Making all the decisions. I have given my all to ensure that you become the success that I know you will be. As heir to my empire, you wish to do best by the company?"
Shouto felt his body tense. He swallowed hard. "Yes, father."
Enji smiled. A wicked smile. "Good boy. Now, you remember the Yaoyorozu family?"
Shoto nodded.
The Yaoyorozu family were an elite family with a business empire of their own. Their company, Creati, is in charge of making various materials and objects for businesses. Over the years, Enji had done extensive business with Creati.
"Like myself, Shinichi Yaoyorozu started his company on his own. He, too, plans on passing his empire onto his child: Momo Yaoyorozu. I believe you know her? He tells me she goes to your school." Enji continued.
Another nod from Shouto.
"For years, we had discussed the prospects of merging our two companies into one. Thinking of the business profit we could amass together. Then we started thinking more: In a few short years, our companies will see the rise of new leadership. If we wish to see this new direction through and the rise of a business partnership, then maybe, we need to take it a step further. Not only merge companies, but families as well. Nothing helps amass great success more than that of a family owned company. After all, family is so very important to the consumer" Enji further explained.
Shouto became rigid, staring at his father quizzical.
"Shinichi and I came to the decision, today, that following the end of your high school career: You and Momo should wed."
Shouto was simply a puppet and his father was pulling the strings.
TBC…
