Author's note

I am not a songwriter, and therefore, I had to use songs by real-life bands. Just Like You is by Three Days Grace. Heaven Knows is by The Pretty Reckless.

Douglas Booth is English, but the character he plays is American, so you will have to imagine him with an American accent when you're reading this one-shot.

Lindsay Maxwell, Madison Cartwright, Spencer Adams, and Caleb Henderson were born in Boston, Massachusetts. They had been friends since they were kids. After graduating high school in 2011, they moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue their dream of starting a rock band. They named their band Whirlwind.

Whirlwind's first gig at the Echo was well-received, and they progressively sold out all over L.A.'s nightclubs until a producer for Epic Records approached them with a five-album deal and they hired a manager. They released their self-titled debut album in September of 2012. It debuted at number sixty-five on the Billboard 200, selling 9,000 copies in its first week.

Madison and Caleb started dating in April of 2012.

Spencer started dating a girl named Jenna Hartley in June of 2012.

Lindsay was the lead singer of Whirlwind and wrote their songs. Madison was the lead guitarist and backup singer. Spencer was the bassist. Caleb was the drummer.

July 2013

Lindsay sat on a bar stool, drinking a glass of whiskey.

"Is this seat taken?"

Lindsay saw a guy with brown hair standing behind her. He was wearing glasses. She thought he was cute.

"No." Lindsay said.

Lindsay was tall and slender with fair skin and brown eyes. Her long brown hair was styled in loose curls. She was wearing a white t-shirt, black denim jeans, and black ankle-length leather boots. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.

He took a seat next to her and ordered a glass of whiskey.

"My name's Stuart Twombly. I'm a big fan of your band."

Lindsay shook his hand.

"It's nice to meet to meet you, Stuart. Are you from around here?" She asked.

Stuart nodded. "I was born and raised here."

"What do you do for a living?" Lindsay asked.

"I just finished my sophomore year at Stanford University and am participating in Google's summer internship program. I turn 22 next week. My friends/colleagues and I plan to go to our favourite Chinese restaurant and go bar hopping."

"I turn 22 next month. My friends/bandmates and I plan to go to our favourite Italian restaurant and go bar hopping." Lindsay said.

Stuart and Lindsay saw each other a few more times after that night. They eventually started dating.

Google's summer internship program ended in August. Google offered Stuart a part-time job, and he accepted. It would become a full-time job when he graduated from Stanford.

October 2013

Whirlwind was performing at the Satellite. Lindsay got Stuart a ticket and a backstage pass.

The crowd went wild as Lindsay, Madison, Spencer, and Caleb appeared on stage.

Lindsay stood behind a microphone.

Madison plugged her black and white 1976 Fender Stratocaster into her guitar amp. She threw her guitar strap over her shoulder. A microphone was in front of her.

Spencer plugged his black 1994 Gibson LPB-1 Les Paul Bass into his bass amp. He threw his bass strap over his shoulder.

Caleb pulled a pair of wooden drumsticks out of his back pocket and sat down behind his black and white Pearl Roadshow drum set. There were microphones in front of the kick drum, in between the snare drum and the two mounted toms, above the ride cymbal, in between the two floor toms, and above the crash cymbal.

Lindsay spoke into her microphone. "This song is called Just Like You."

Madison strummed her guitar. Caleb banged his drums. Spencer played his bass.

"I could be mean. I could be angry. You know I could be just like you. I could be fake. I could be stupid. You know I could be just like you. You thought you were standing beside me. You were only in my way. You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you!" Lindsay sang.

"Just like you," Madison sang.

"You thought you were there to guide me. You were only in my way. You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you!" Lindsay sang.

"Just like you," Madison sang.

Stuart was standing in the middle row. He nodded along with the music. The other people in the audience did the same.

"You thought you were there to guide me. You were only in my way. You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you!" Lindsay sang.

Madison, Caleb, and Spencer nodded along to the music.

"I could be cold. I could be ruthless. You know I could be just like you. I could be weak. I could be senseless.

"You thought you were there to guide me. You were only in my way. You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you! On my own, 'cause I can't take living with you! I'm alone, so I won't turn out like you want me to.

"You thought you were there to guide me. You were only in my way. You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you! I could be mean. I could be angry. You know I could be just like you," Lindsay sang.

The instruments faded out. The crowd went wild.

Time seemed to fly by as the band played song after song. It seemed like no time had passed when the instruments faded out on the last song.

"Good night, Los Angeles!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone.

Lindsay, Madison, Spencer, and Caleb walked off the stage.

Stuart made his way to the backstage area. He showed his pass to a security guard. The security guard escorted him to Whirlwind's dressing room.

Lindsay, Madison, Spencer, and Caleb were sitting on a couch.

Lindsay smiled at Stuart. "Hey, babe."

Stuart smiled back. "Hey."

Lindsay was wearing an unzipped black leather jacket, a black t-shirt, dark blue denim jeans, and black ankle-length leather boots with high heels. Her hair was down and straight. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.

Lindsay introduced Stuart to Madison. "Stuart, this is Madison Cartwright. She's our lead guitarist and backup singer. Madison, this is my boyfriend, Stuart Twombly."

Madison smiled. "Hey."

Stuart smiled back. "Hey."

Madison was tall and slender with fair skin, long straight blonde hair that was parted in the middle, and green eyes. She was wearing an unzipped black leather jacket, a red t-shirt, black denim jeans, and black ankle-length leather boots with high heels. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft brown eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.

Lindsay introduced Stuart to Spencer. "This is Spencer Adams. He's our bassist."

"Hey." Spencer greeted.

Stuart gave him the same greeting.

Spencer was tall with fair skin, medium-length straight brown hair that fell just above his eyebrows, and green eyes. He was clean-shaven. His body was slender but muscular. He was wearing an unzipped black leather jacket, a white t-shirt, black denim jeans, and black ankle-length leather boots.

Lindsay introduced Stuart to Caleb. "This is Caleb Henderson. He's our drummer."

It was Saturday night. Whirlwind's manager had booked a gig at the Fillmore.

Stuart didn't have classes on the weekends, and he didn't have to work either. He was able to get a ticket to the concert.

There were microphones in front of the kick drum, in between the snare drum and the two mounted toms, above the ride cymbal, in between the two floor toms, and above the crash cymbal.

Lindsay spoke into her microphone. "Title track on our up-and-coming album. We call it Heaven Knows."

Madison strummed her guitar. Caleb banged his drums. Spencer played his bass.

"Jimmy's in the back with a pocket of high. If you listen close, you can hear him cry oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below," Lindsay sang.

"Sing it!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone.

"Oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below, way down below, way down below," Madison sang.

"Judy's in the front seat picking up trash. Living on the dole. Got to make that cash. Won't be pretty. Won't be sweet. She's just sitting here on her feet," Lindsay sang.

"Sing it!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone.

"Oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below," Madison sang.

"Go!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone.

"Oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below," Madison sang.

"Way down below, way down below, way down below, way down below," Madison sang.

Madison, Caleb, and Spencer nodded along to the music.

"I've had better days, man. I've seen better days. I've had better ways, man. I know better ways," Lindsay sang.

"One!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone, putting a finger in the air.

"Two!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone, putting another finger in the air.

"Three!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone, putting another finger in the air.

"And four!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone, putting another finger in the air.

"The Devil's knocking at your door. Caught in the eye of a dead man's lie. Start your life with your head held high. Now you're on your knees with your head hung low. Big man tells you where to go. Tell 'em it's good. Tell 'em okay," Lindsay sang.

"Don't do a God damn thing they say!" Lindsay and Madison yelled into their microphones.

"Oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below. Oh, Lord, tell us so. We belong way down below," Lindsay sang.

"Way down below, way down below, way down below, way down below," Madison sang.

"I've seen better ways, man. I know better ways. I've seen better days, man. I've had better days. Gina's in the back with a pocket of high. If you listen close, you can hear the crying. Oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below. Oh, Lord, tell us so. We belong way down below," Lindsay sang.

"Sing it!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone.

"Oh, Lord, Heaven knows we belong way down below. Oh, Lord, tell us so. We belong way down below," Madison sang.

"Way down below, way down below, way down below, way down below," Lindsay sang.

The instruments faded out. The crowd went wild.

Time seemed to fly by as the band played song after song. It seemed like no time had passed when the instruments faded out on the last song.

"Thank you so much, everyone. You fucking rocked tonight!" Lindsay yelled into her microphone.

Stuart walked into a diner and took a seat next to Lindsay, Madison, Spencer, Caleb, and Spencer's girlfriend.

Lindsay introduced Stuart to Spencer's girlfriend. "Stuart, this is Spencer's girlfriend, Jenna Hartley. Jenna, this is my girlfriend, Stuart Twombly."

"Nice to meet you," Stuart said.

"You too," Jenna said.

A waitress walked up to them.

"What can I get you?" She asked.

They ordered burgers, fries, and root beers.

"Coming right up," she said, writing in her notepad and then walking into the kitchen.

Their food and drinks arrived.

Lindsay grabbed some fries before taking a sip of her root beer.

"How long have you and Spencer been dating?" Stuart asked Jenna.

"Since June of 2012. How long have you and Lindsay been dating?" Jenna asked.

"Since July of 2013." Stuart said.
