I will tell you of the woman who has taken Reim to its knees, only to let rise it again, greater than it was ever before; tamer of the sun, the one who parlays with fate, the woman of many turns.
I, Muu Alexius, have pursued her 'round the empire, and have shadowed her every step—but she has always been one to walk a path impossible for anyone else to follow, and I suspect that is the way she prefers it: she chases the sun and is gilded in its brilliance, yet from those great heights she also burns. Her place could—and I now conclude should—never be shared by anyone.
It is a dangerous thing, to test destiny the way she has.
My life has always been inexplicably linked to hers, even the great priestess once said to me, and for years I questioned why that was, to no use.
Our relationship began with that same thing which at a young age she was already well-acquainted with, however: loss.
Notes:
The prompt that inspired this fic was, "a hero's journey starring a woman learning to be more selfish."
This is also one of my old fics that I've decided to reupload for posterity. It features elements of epic poetry and historical Great Man tales, in the style of Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, etc.
