Part one:
The First Meeting:
The President of the United States had called a special meeting today, for Jimmy Best, Lewis Holems and Lrya Abner to come see him in his office, he is going to get them working together to solve a crime spree that is going on in the midwest to west and turn them into a team of crime fighters, that is if they all get along and can work well together.
In the office of the white house it was busy today with crowds of people always coming and going. The two out of the three, people the president has called for has arrived finally. When they first meet they are surpised and shocked at how different they are from each other.
Jimmy was the first one to shake hands with Lewis, he says "Hi my name is…" Lweis says "I already know your name sir, its Jimmy Best! Everyone knows you! Your miltary time, and achivements are all over the place, you make the news once a week if not more!" Jimmy smiled and says "Yeah its just all print! Nice to meet you". Lewis says "No sir its nice to meet you". Jimmy smiled and says "Well, I guess we should go see what the President wants".
They open the great big white doors and walk on into the huge Presidential office. Jimmy was the first one to speak, "Mr. President sir we are here as you requested". Mr. President turns to face his secret agents and he tells them "Come sit down boys have a cigar". Lewis says "Don't mind if I do!" Jimmy smacks him and whispers "Not polite! Only a figure of speech!" The President says "We have one more person we are wating on to join us if you don't mind the wait".
Jimmy smiled and says "Not at all sir, it will be just fine, May I ask some questions about why we are here sir?" The President smiled and says "Sure Jimmy shoot". Jimmy clears his throat and says "Will this assingment take long and be dangrous?"
The President says honestly "I will be honest with you Jimmy, we're not sure!" Jimmy is taken aback at the President's response, he says "You're not sure?" The President reclaims "Well, there has been trouble in Walnut Grove, Minnessota they do need help there despartely". Lewis says "What kind of trouble are those people in?" The President grabs his files and says "Well, as far as we know some weather disasters and some criminal activity as well".
Lewis replied, "Oh really, sounds like we've been missing the exictment with all of our other assingments". The Presenident laughs and says "Well, if you insist but the people of Walnut Grove might not think of it like that".
Finally Lyra finally shows up for the meeting with the President, She was blonde hair and blue eyes, with a red dress, high heels, and fancy hat on her head. She walks in to introduce herself politely to the gentlemen before her.
She says "Hello, Gentlemen, Jimmy Best, and Lewis Holems I heard a lot about you two guys". Jimmy stands up and says "Nice to have met you mama". Lewis says "Same here dear". The President says "Sit down miss now that we are all here we can get on with the rat killin".
Jimmy says "We're all here so does that mean?" The President says "Yes you will all be working together on this assingment!" Lewis says "You mean its not just us two any more!? What on earth?" The President says "Miss Lyra Abner is very well qualifed, almost as Jimmy Best here, she could out shoot him any day if she wanted and has a good track record of catching criminals at best". "Remember she can always mingle in with the women folk of Walnut Grove and get the juciy tibits of information that may be difficult for you guys to obtian".
Jimmy smiled and says "Yes of course some one wasn't thinking of that!" The President wait for Jimmy to get quite and says " Well, now you will have your own train to take you to Walnut Grove, it will be fileld with all of the gadagtes you could possibly need, servents, and it's a new bullet train yet the boot". Lewis smiles and says "Traviling in style I like this assingment already!"
Lyra laughs a little but keeps her comments to herlsef taking notes of what the President was telling everyone. The President was going over the details of what was to be done, He says "OH and we have a band of robbers in Walnut Grove who keep robbing stages coaches, seems like they do it when they have bad weather, and taking the loot at no matter what risk to the passengers". Jimmy says "That alone is a danger, depending on the weather and what not".
The President nods, and starts to hand over things to Jimmy, Lewis and Lyra. He says "Here is your identification you have to use when your around Normal people of the town, Jimmy I suspect you still know how to ride a horse?" Jimmy says "I can manage sir". The President says "Good, you will have to use those skills again, in this town, and so would all of you, from time to time, depending on the situation". Jimmy says "Certainly sir, We understand". Then Lewis looks at his id card, and says "OH why do we have code names now sir?"
The President also goes into explaining "Yes you need common names so the town's folk will think of you like you are one of them, see in this case you really need to fit in to the culture of the town's people so they wouldn't blow your cover, or get you into dangerous situations, is that under stood? And you will be using these names to sing documents, and when you speak to one another make sure these code names are to be used for nothing else".
Another Man in a suit and tie stand by the office door of the oval office, The President tells his three employees that "This is James here he will show you out and help you get on the train to Walnut Grove, you should arrive there in a few days, remember the train has a code name too its name is Gear Jamer! But we have to go at normal old train speed so no one be any the wiser". Jimmy smiled and says "Well, this might be a real adventure here".
Jimmy as he stands up, to get ready to leave, asks, " This train we are on, sounds pretty sophictaed will there be anyone else on the train to assist us for a while?" The President says "Well, (with a slight laugh), Well Jimmy, Gear Jammer is well quite differently equiped than most normal trains you will find that out once you get on board, but she is spacious and quite accomdating when treated right." The President laughs again and says "I remember we used her to take to all my campaing routes, and she was quite a handful! Quite a handful, Jimmy you're the ladies man of the group you could handle her right?"
Jimmy laughs and says "I don't know don't know". Lyra says "We're all going to find out soon enough!" The tall man gaurding the door motions with his hands that its time to leave, and Lyra asks the President "Sir if I may ask what will we do for clothes and food while on the mission?" The President says one last time, "All things you need will be found on Gear Jammer everything is there from clothes to food to medical, its all there, use her kindly and she will take care of you". "Good luck". He shakes hands with the troop and they walk out of the President's office getting ready to board a strange train that they have never seen before…..
The three secret agents get escorted out of the oval office with more questions than answers, they walk quickly and quitely with James showing them the way to their very special bullet train…
Meanwhile, at the Harriet Olsen Institue for the Blind:
At the Blind school classes were done for the day, Mary and Adam were busy getting ready for tommrrows lessons. Mary was at the table working on a sybllus for class, and Adam was at his teacher's desk grading the math papers.
Adam smiles as he reads the papers with his fingers and says "Mary how do we do it?" Mary smiled and says "What is that dear?" Adam speaks again, "All of our students are getting hundres on their math home work."
Mary says playfully, "Adam, you know they got the best teacher right here in Walnut Grove!" Adam smiles broadly at Mary's complement and says "Your not a bad teacher your self Mary!" Adam comes over and taps her on her shoulder. Mary stands up to Adam she feels his shoulders and says "I love you". Adam replies, "I love you".
After they slightly giggle Mary and Adam kiss long and hard non stop that is until they hear the entry door open. Caroline says "Oh am I interrupting something, I can come back later?" Mary laughs and says " No Ma, you can come in". Caroline does then and closes the door, Caroline then says "I got a telegram for Adam". Adam says "What? Really? Some one sent me something?" Mary then says "Well, Ma what is it, what does it say?"
Caroline smiles, and replies "Well, DO I have your permsion I will read it?" Adam says in agreeing sort of way, "BY all means go ahead please, don't keep us in suspenes!" Caroline opens the telegram and says in a broad smiling voice, "Adam, Mary, this is the best news ever!" Mary says "Ma? Please what is it?"
Caroline says "Adam has won an award at Saint Paul for a teacher's convention coming up next Satruday!" Mary says "What is the name of the award?" Caroline reads further and she says "It's the Louis braille award for successful teaching! Adam is one of the few people to receive the award!"
Mary was all smiles, she says turning to face Adam, "Adam I am so proud of you!" Adam smiles and says "Oh my this is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me!" Caroline was smiling and giggling so was Mary.
Hester Sue came inside with the Children she let them go up stairs and had wanted to ask Mary and Adam something . She came to the class room, and says "What is going on here? What is all of the excitement?"
Mary explained to her "Hester Sue Adam won the Louis braillie award for his fine and wonderful teaching, the event is next Satruday!" Hester Sue replies with excitement "Adam Congraulations tonight we can have a special supper to celebrate!" Adam smiles and says "No you don't need to do that just because I won some kind of award!" Hester Sue gets a little defensive and says "What now your big headed and already don't like my cooking!"
Adam sadly reports to the group "Well, I don't think we can go, don't have the money too go!" Mary then says "I don't need to go, some one has to stay here". Adam laughs then he says "I won't go if you won't!"
Hester Sue chimes in "I got some money saved up if it will help you, you need to go get your once in a life time award! That is so presitage!" Adam says "Thank you but its just enough, I am just happy I won, I don't need to go to some special event just to prove what a good teacher I am!"
Caroline smiled at Adam's humbleness and says "I can ask Charles to see if he or we can help tonight when I get home". Adam says "Please Caroline no need to make a fuss its enough I won!"
Caroline says "You won it though all your hard work and need something to show for it!" Adam smiles and says "Yes my chidlren are getting A's that is all the proof I need".
Caroline smiled and replied "Well, I am going home now, and you two think about it tonight we're not going to forget! We will find away!" Caroline hugs everyone and then she leaves.
Hester Sue says "I got the children up stairs now doing their home work, I think I'll start on super, maybe fix something special for Adam".
Then she stops and thinks, she says "Adam what do you like most that we don't always have?" Adam sighs, and says "Hester Sue your not going to drop it are you?" Hester sue laughs and says "No! what do you like?" Adam says "Well Roast beef is good". Hester Smiled and says "Well, then Roast Beef we will have".
At Supper for both The Blind School and at the Ingalls:
Hester Sue was going to work on Adam and use supper as a bribe to get him excited on going on the trip to get his award. She had all the trimmings for the roast beef done, plus a separate meal for the children they were fed and put to bed early.
Now she had a little nook table set for just herself, Mary and Adam to have a nice little supper to them selves. She calls to them, "Mary Adam, supper!" Adam was the first to leave his office, and come to the table, he exclaims, "The wonderful smell of roast beef!" Mary comes from down stairs and gets Adam's chair for him, she replies "Sit my king! Enjoy!"
Mary sits across from him and Hester Sue at the other end, she says "Mary you think Adam ought to go right?" Mary sighs and says "Well he should consider at least". Adam smiles complaining "Here we go!" Mary says "We're not going to let you back out!" Adam folds his arms across his chest and aks "So do I have to give a speech at the convention?"
Mary smiles as she puts food on her plate, she replies, "Maybe, I don't know never been there dear". Hester sue says with a big grin "A man who teaches in a class room all day shouldn't be afraid of talking to all those people there". Adam sighs in discontent "Why me ! Why Me!" Mary laughs and so does Hester Sue, she says "It will be alright!"
At the Ingalls:
Now Caroline had super for her family, with everyone at the table, Caroline comments "Adam won a once in a life time award I was hoping we could help them out give them some money or something so they could go".
Charles sighs and says "Sorry Caroline, I was hoping to sell those horses and cow but no one is buying and crops are not good this year the crazy weather we are having isn't helping us any!"
Caroline sighs and she drops the subject on the money, she knew it wasn't there, she just says "I am going to the kitchen want anything?"
Charles just says "No". Charles grumbles and Laura and Albert just look at each other possible thinking up a plan.
Nothing more was said about Adam and the trip the subject of money was dropped.
Back to the Secret Service Agents:
Jimmy Best, Lewis Holmes, and Lyra Abner were getting to see their private bullet train code named "Gear Jammer" for the first time. It was dark now and not of them had time to eat supper yet, Lewis says impatiently, as they walk down the board walk to the train, "I hope there is a private chef on the train I am hungry!" Everyone else goes "Shhh!" Lewis says "Okay! I'll shut up!" As they get near Jimmy could sense how great this steel horse is, and he begins to wonder what the President meant when he said the train could be a handful.
Finally all four of them came to the train; Jimmy stared at her in awe so did the others. All of that shinny steal, and steam coming out from below. James their escort just stands there doesn't say anything and just stand stock dead still like a statue.
Jimmy goes up on the platform of the Gear Jammer train first and Lyra and Lewis. They take one last look of Washington D.C. and Jimmy says "Well, we won't see this place for a while". And then continues to go inside the train as well as the others. The automatically slides itself shut with a loud click.
The train then lurches a head a little to get started and then starts moving more smoothly down the tracks gradually picking up speed. Everyone was trying to sit down and get comfortable for their long few days train ride. Some were looking around and trying to figure who was getting what bunk to sleep in for the night and where to get something to eat.
Now all three agents were inside getting prepared for their journey to Walnut Grove Minnesota are they ready for the challenges that lie ahead?
