Rose's summer with the Weasley's was going swimmingly.
She couldn't remember a time when she was happier. In fact, she'd wake up in a shock when she'd realize she wasn't living with the Dursleys.
Then, she'd remember Harry's situation and would feel a little bit more sad.
She was telling George one morning at breakfast:
"I'm just worried, you know, that when we go back to school he's going to hate me forever."
George shrugged ad replied:
"There's nothing you can do about it now, the Ministry has literally ordered you to spend your summer with us."
That was true.
In case you didn't know, Rose was Harry's forgotten sister. Well, people knew about her now in the Wizarding world but yeah she wasn't as important as her brother.
The night that Voldemort came to murder her parents, she hid in the closet which is how nobody camee to know of her existence.
Another thing: Rose wasn't very good at magic and there was a prophecy about her. At age 16 she would know whether or not she'd turned Witch or Muggle. And considering how her magic progress was going the odds weren't very likely of her turning into a Witch.
She'd just spent the last two years at Hogwarts running after Harry and getting caught up in all of his adventures (usually unwillingly), and catching up on all of her first year coursework, however, there was still one class she needed to be on track for the OWL exams this year, her fifth year at Hogwarts:
First Year Defense Against the Dark Arts.
It was pretty embarrassing that she was so far behind, but Cornelius Fudge last year had granted Molly Weasley permission to teach Rose this one class so she could finally be all caught up in her courses.
That's how she came to be at the Weasley's house for the summer and Harry was stuck at the Dursleys (Cornelius Fudge hadn't granted Harry permission to go stay with Rose and the Weasleys).
Classes with Mrs. Weasley were interesting. It was clear that the Dark Arts had never been her strong suit- and Rose could've guessed as much- but Mrs. Weasley was a wonderful teacher nonetheless. Always very patient and kind with Rose, despite how much Rose was struggling.
The other day Mrs. Weasley was trying to teach Rose a basic jinx known as the "Impediment Jinx," a jinx that is commonly used to slow down a moving target in a duel.
Mrs. Weasley had set up a metal figurine in the living for Rose to practice on- she'd also ordered everyone to not come near the living room whilst Rose was practicing (obviously preparing for something to go horribly wrong).
"Now, Rose," Mrs. Weasley began, "Just repeat after me alright 'impedimenta'!"
Rose pulled out her wand- an 9 inch wood wand that had beautiful simple vine detailing on the side with a Willow core (just like her Mum) and tried to follow the moving figurine-
"Impedimenta!" She tried to shout after Mrs. Weasley who promptly ducked when the figurine moved out of the way causing some dishes on the wall to fall down, instead of stopping the figurine from moving Rose had simply stopped the dishes from shattering to the floor.
Mrs. Weasley quickly stood back up once Rose had finished her dueling turn and she appeared to be a bit frazzled. She gasped when she saw the dishes frozen in space.
Rose lifted her hands, "Better than nothing, I guess?" She tried to assure Mrs. Weasley who simply sighed.
"Yes, dear," Mrs. Weasley said, "This time you've managed to hit something I suppose we just have to work on hitting the target."
Rose felt bad for stressing Mrs. Weasley out so much with her magic.
"These are simple jinxes you know- stuff that Fred and George could teach you in their sleep!" Mrs. Weasley breathed while trying to smooth out her hair.
Rose hung her head, she knew she was bad at magic and nobody at Hogwarts let her forget. Especially not Pansy Parkinson.
"I'm sorry dear," Mrs. Weasley quickly retracted her comment, "I'm just worried about this unit, you passed theory quite well, but you need to pass jinxes according to the Ministry."
Rose nodded, "I'll try, Mrs. Weasley, I promise." Rose said.
Mrs. Weasley brought Rose in for a hug, "I know you will, dear." She said.
June had already flown by as had July and now she was already entering her last month with the Weasleys.
So between lessons Rose was also spending a fair bit of time with Fred and George, Percy, and Ginny.
"Did you write Harry a letter?" Ginny asked her one morning referring to how Rose wrote Harry a letter with updates every Friday morning.
"I was about to- thanks for reminding me!" Rose said and before she stood up from the couch Arthur Weasley came clambering into the kitchen.
"Letter for you," He said to Rose handing her a letter. She assumed it would be from Harry, but there was no name on it which could only mean one thing-
It was from Sirius Black. She quickly stuffed the letter into her pocket. Sirius Black was still in hiding from the Ministry but was trying to keep in contact with Rose and Harry.
Rose was starting to like Sirius a bit more this year, but certainly not as much as Harry liked him.
The only person who knew about Sirius amongst the Weasleys was George and he'd promised to keep it a secret.
Rose ran to take the letter upstairs where she kept it in a draw to read that night.
As she went back downstairs for dinner, Arthur Weasley pulled Rose aside.
"Rose, I've invited Bellamy over for a night I hope that's alright," Mr. Weasley said.
"Of course, she's my friend." Rose replied.
The year before, Rose's friend's Bellamy Brownwood's father, Blaine Brownwood, had been murdered by Voldemort for this work at the Ministry. Bellamy had taken the rest of the term off so Rose hadn't seen her for about half a year.
"Have you heard anything about how Bellamy is doing?" Rose asked Arthur Weasley.
"I heard not well for the first months as was excepted she was just spending lots of time with her mother, Blair Brownwood, as I'm sure you've heard of," Arthur Weasley said.
"No, actually," Rose said slowly, "I haven't heard much about Blair Brownwood."
Mr. Weasley raised his eyebrow and then cleared his throat again before nodding and saying "Yes, well…"
"Tomorrow works though." Rose nodded and they went back to the dinner table.
Rose tried to drone out Percy talking about working for the Ministry whilst eating her food.
She wondered about what Sirius's letter said, what she'd write to Harry, and what it would be like seeing Bellamy tomorrow.
