Spies in Disguise: Team Weird
Case 1: Pilot (or Meet the Agents and a New Threat)
Saturday, August 31, 2019
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport - 3:05 P.M.
Today was the day. It was fall of 2019 and Jordan E. James and Sarah N. Smith, two recently graduated college students, were on their way to a very special place. They received invitations after their graduation from the top-secret organization of H.T.U.V. (Honor, Trust, Unity, and Valor), receiving recognition for their respective accomplishments.
Jordan E. James was respected at college for his extensive studies of global languages and cultures, graduating with top honors. Sarah N. Smith was beloved for her cooking skills, being one of the best cooks the college has ever seen and loved tasting foods around the world for herself thanks to study abroad programs, allowing her to also graduate with top honors. The two have been friends ever since they first came to college and they have taken on the years together. Now, they will take on whatever this organization has for them together.
It was a two-hour flight from Atlanta to Washington D.C. before they landed. As they got off their plane, they stuck together and kept an eye out for their last names.
"So are you excited?" Jordan asked his friend about the organization and how she felt.
"Yeah, I think I am! Apparently, we will be two of the first people to be in a new branch or something. I think it's supposed to be a nonviolent one."
"Ah, that's right! Okay, so we're supposed to be finding our last names…" Once they found the main terminal and got their luggage, they noticed a woman holding a sign with their last names. They made their way over to her as she greeted them.
"Hello. Jordan James and Sarah Smith, correct?"
"Yes, that's us."
"Great! Nice to meet you. Just follow me to our escort." The woman led the two to a black van and had them sit in the back. Once everyone was in, they started their journey to their next destination.
"Please forgive me for not introducing myself, but it's a public space. My name is Marcy Kappel. I am the head of Internal Affairs at the H.T.U.V., as well as a new branch at the agency that we will disclose to you soon."
"Nice to meet you, Marcy." The two shook her hand. "So where exactly are we on our way to?"
"Well, we are on our way to housing. You know, where you two will be staying. Now, it is my understanding that you two have been friends for about four years?"
"Yup! We've been through everything together!" The two hugged, proving this to her as a computer voice started talking.
"Destination approaching. Prepare for dropoff."
"Oop, we're getting close to the housing facilities."
"Oh okay. So what type of housing are we staying in?"
"Well, there it is."
Washington High Rises - 3:12 P.M.
The van pulled up to a particular large high rise located not far from the National Mall. It was sleek and kinda futuristic-looking, which impressed the two.
"Impressed?"
"Definitely." The van pulled up to the side of the building, allowing the trio to get out. Once they did, it was one walk through the doors to the nice-looking lobby before they went to the front desk.
"Ah, Marcy Kappel! Nice to see you again!"
"You as well, Sam."
"Oh, I see you have some new agents."
"Yup! We need the keys to their room, please." Sam went into his desk to find their room bag. He got the bag out of his desk and handed it to her.
"Alright, here you go!"
"Thanks, Sam!"
"No problem, Marcy! Oh, and welcome to the agency!" He greeted the new agents as the trio boarded an elevator which took them to about mid-level. Once they did, they found the duo's room.
"Alright, so your keycard is one of the most important items that you need to have on your person for our facilities. This acts as your room key and your ID card to enter our headquarters, which you will see later. Observe!" She pushed the card against the door, unlocking it and allowing it to open. The duo got a first look at their room.
It was spacious, allowing for a living room, a kitchen, a two-person bathroom, two bedrooms, and a closet. Needless to say, the two were impressed by how nice and spacious the room was.
"Wow, this is a pretty nice room!" Jordan walked to the couch and laid down, feeling the softness of the couch's pillows. "And this couch is so soft…"
"This is a nice kitchen! I can really cook here!"
"Ah, yes, you were known as a chef at your college?"
"Yup! National AND International! Bachelor's in Culinary Arts!"
"Well, we do have to tour the rest of the facilities but you can come back when we're done."
"Okay." The duo quickly followed her back to the elevator, which went back to the ground level. Thanks to the agency not being far from their housing, they just had to walk to the National Mall to get to the agency. In a disclosed location near the mall, there was a conspicuous old shack that people never really paid mind to. But in actuality, it was the secret entrance to the headquarters, proven when Marcy scanned her card, allowing the front to open apart and let them in.
H.T.U.V. Headquarters - 3:20
One elevator ride down later, and the duo first stepped foot in H.T.U.V.'s headquarters, underneath the Mall. It was a large facility roaming with agents, accompanied by the roof brimming with the water from the Mall.
"This is kinda amazing!"
"Yeah, it makes me wonder how they actually did it."
"Well, keep marveling because we're about to head in!" Marcy led the two through signing in, and once that was cleared, the two were led to the division of the headquarters known as the A.C.P. (Alternative Combat Program). The section had the main lobby that led to two separate rooms and the lobby already had a couple of people inside.
"Wait…"
"Is that…"
"Lance Sterling?" The two spoke together as they noticed one of the world's greatest spies was literally standing right there, drinking coffee. Stars appeared in both of their eyes.
"Lance Sterling. I'm certain that it's a pleasure to meet me as it is for me to meet you!"
"Oh yes…" The two marveled at his presence before Marcy continued.
"Yup, he's one of the heads of the program. The other head is Walter Beckett." Walter came from behind Lance and greeted them.
"So you two are the new agents?"
"Yes, we are! And you are Walter Beckett?"
"Yup! Graduated MIT at 15! Ever since I joined the organization, I have tried to implement more nonviolent methods of battling but I was initially ignored… but now, we're finally given a chance to show our stuff!"
"Wow, you really rose up, huh?"
"Yeah! Oh, and we have a couple of other members of the Program if you would just follow me."
Walter led everyone to one of the rooms, which looked more like a lounge/briefing room. In the room were two more people, one being a tall, slender woman with ginger hair pulled back and large glasses, and the other being a short, large man with a cap, headphones, and a large satellite dish. Jordan was intrigued by the two of them, the former one especially.
"Oh, the new agents," said the woman, with a Scottish accent. The man took off his headphones after seeing them.
"Hey! Welcome to the program," he said, with the two of them walking over to them, preparing to greet them. The woman started first.
"Gavina Young! Everyone calls me Eyes. My talents lie in spectral analysis and quantum optical thermography by the use of my glasses. How are you?" She greeted them both and shook their hands as Jordan spoke to her.
"Hey, not to be personal, but do you happen to be Scottish, by any chance?"
"Yes. My family traces back there! Why do you ask?"
"Oh, just an observation. My bad."
"Oh, no, don't be sorry! You were just curious!" As the two finished their conversation, the man started next, shaking his hand with the two.
"Sup? My name's Devon James Karter. My nickname is Ears! I specialize in sound and detection."
"Wait, did you say sound?" Sarah was curious as to how he uses sound.
"Yeah! See this dish? Never leave home without it! Aside from detection it can do other stuff as well, mainly weapon deactivation."
"That's really neat! Does it work, you know, for translations?"
"Hmm…I don't think it does…"
"Well, don't worry! Jordan here can translate any language within seconds!"
"Yup! Doing study abroad programs can really help spark an interest. So you two are also part of the program?"
"Two of the best field agents, actually! Well, okay, two of the ONLY field agents. This branch only recently started after all. So you two are here on a tour?"
"Yup! First time in this place! So what other facilities do you have here?"
"Well…"
Imagine cuts to each room here…
"We got a training facility, a gadget lab, a break room, many others that we have but don't need to mention right now, and finally… the briefing room. Here is where our Director will give you all of your assignments. Speaking of which… you also need a uniform. Both of you!" The two exchanged looks before the scene cut to them in the lab, in one of their most-used inventions.
"So what are we standing in?" Walter took over for Marcy, explaining the machine.
"I call this... the Dress-O-Matic! It will scan you, calculate your body dimensions, and help you find the outfit that's right for you! Observe!" The machine scanned them, taking note of their measurements and using the data to generate costume options for them.
"What is your preferred type of clothing?"
"Hmm… casual."
"Fashionable!" Jordan prefers more easy-wearing clothes while Sarah preferred more fashionable articles of clothing. The system searched for outfits to fit right with them in about 10 seconds. The system managed to pick a sleek, but comfortable outfit consisting of a blue shirt, stretchable vest, and long pants. It had minor differences for the two of them, but for the most part, the outfit was the same.
"Hmmm… I like it!"
"Me too! So how do we get these?"
"Oh don't worry, these outfits can be scanned onto you at any time using these." Marcy held some bowties. "These are also important as these are the only way to change into your agent outfits. But don't worry, you'll only have to wear it during missions." She put the bowties into a compartment, allowing the machine to record the outfits and send them onto the ties themselves.
"Hmm… that's pretty impressive! How do they do that?"
"Encoding. So, now that you got your uniforms, the tour is over! You're free to do as you wish for now until you are needed for a mission. You never know…"
Later that day…
Jordan and Sarah were in their apartment, sharing their thoughts.
"So the other agents seem nice."
"Yeah, they do! So you like Eyes and Ears?"
"Mmhmm," he said as he gave a quick chuckle. "They both seem cool."
"What do you think our first mission would be?"
"Well…" As he thought, an alarm came on. According to Marcy, that alarm is their mission alert. Marcy then appeared on the television in the living room.
"Jordan? Sarah? We need you to come down to the HQ ASAP! We got your first assignment!"
They got the memo, rushing to the shack and then to the briefing room, where the Director and other agents of the A.C.P. were waiting.
"Glad you could join us."
"It is a pleasure, ma'am." They both saluted before her as the Director continued.
"I am Director Joy Jenkins. It is a pleasure to get to meet you two and prep you for your first assignment. A couple of days ago, we got a report of a mysterious man holding a bag of suspicious items. We tried to send some of our agents up there to check it out, but when they get there, they blackout, claiming that they somehow can't remember a thing. We decided to send you and the other agents to try and find out what he's doing. Do you think you can handle it?"
"Ma'am, we'll do it!"
"Great! You have your assignment. Now, everyone, move out." Everyone saluted as Lance led them to his Audi RSQ E-Tron car.
"Wow," said Sarah as she moved around a bit. "This is pretty spacious."
"Thank you." Since Walter had a jetpack and Lance had his pigeon ability, the rest of them were to follow them using the car's autopilot. He turned into a pigeon just in time for Jordan and Sarah to develop surprised faces.
"Oh yeah, Lance can turn himself into a pigeon using that bowtie he's got on." Marcy casually explained it to them, though they were still shocked.
"Now THAT'S interesting. So where are we heading?"
"Now, the agents DID get a picture of the building he was hiding in. It's outside of D.C., so it would take about 20 minutes to reach our destination." The car pulled off as Walter activated his jetpack and Lance started flying.
17 minutes later…
Everyone was listening to tunes and it turns out that Steven Universe is something that the agents really enjoy watching. They listened to some of the songs, some singing along to it, some just listening. Jordan, though he does like the show, never really did this sort of thing in public though, so he was more shy about it.
"Don't worry, buddy." Sarah comforted him. "You'll get comfortable around them. And hey, we made it!"
Strange Building - 7:30 P.M.
She pointed out towards the rather oddly-placed condemned-looking building as the car pulled over, and Walter and Lance landed. Everyone got out and pulled their ties out as Lance went back to normal. Wearing them caused them to change into their agent outfits, ready to sneak in.
They all walked through the corridors of the building, noting how… worn down it looks. There were a lot of blueprints everywhere, which Eyes was able to decipher.
"Looks like whoever we're tracking down is a fan of travel…" Everyone nodded as they continued upstairs. They hoped that they could find whoever this guy is and find out what he's trying to do.
Once they all got upstairs, they heard a pencil drop from the room down the hall, prompting them to sneak towards the room and prepare to raid it. Lance whispered to the others.
"Okay, Eyes? Make sure your glasses are recording so we can find out what's happening." She gave a nod and made sure it was on. "Okay, on three, we go in. One… two…" He gave the signal for "Three", prompting them to bust the door open with whatever weapons they had, except Jordan and Sarah who still needed to be trained, and saw a figure dressed in a robe on the ground.
"Hey!" He pulled his head up at the sound. "Get up from the floor and turn around." He slowly got up and prepared to turn. But what they didn't know was that he had a trick up his sleeve… he quickly turned around and threw… a pot in front of them.
"Wait, seriously? You were just going to throw a pot at us?" But from the pot grew… well, they didn't know what grew from the pot, before a bright flash appeared before the group as they all fell asleep. The last thing they could hear was the sound of something opening and closing…
It was five minutes before everyone woke back up, starting with Jordan and Walter.
"Ugh, my head…"
"Tell me about it. What was that?" They still saw the mushroom, having fallen asleep after it entranced them. "Could it be some of your tech stolen or something?"
"No, I don't think so. We need to wake the rest of the team back up and head back." They woke Eyes back up first, who was a little dazed after what happened.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"Yea, just a little foggy… wait, the glasses!" She got back up and made sure the glasses covered everything. It did, from the raid to what caused the blinding flash to the collapse… though it didn't fully show his escape. Just a blue light. "Wait, the pot is still there. And look!" The pot actually had some kind of plant in its place. It was a white mushroom that looked somewhat anthropomorphic. It was asleep at the moment. "What do we do with it?"
Needing to show this to the agency, the three of them woke everyone back up and everyone prepared to head back with the mushroom in tow.
One car ride later…
Eyes was able to show the footage to Director Jenkins, showing her what went down. And with the footage was the mushroom, which was covered in a glass case.
"So could that mushroom be how he was able to escape?" Sarah was very confused as to what just happened.
"Possibly," said Walter. "As for the cloaked guy in question, we didn't find out what his plan was though we did find blueprints and sketches scattered around his place. Many of them seem to be related to interdimensional travel." Walter's explanation intrigued the Director as she had some of the agents carry the mushroom away to study it.
"Well, you all did an excellent job. Especially impressive since it's Jordan and Sarah's first mission. Now we can use this knowledge in case he tries to show back up again! Thank you all. You are all dismissed!" They all saluted as they left the room.
"So what do you guys think that person was?"
"No idea," said Ears, "But he'll be back. I'm sure of it. So what do you guys want to do now? We pretty much have the night to ourselves." Everyone pondered over what they shall do before Walter got an idea.
Lucky Strike Bowling - 8:45 P.M.
Walter and Lance have been to this bowling alley a couple of times when they had successful missions. They decided to introduce this place to their friends and see if they would want this as a hangout spot. Everyone decided to bowl for a while, with the food on Lance.
"Wow," yelled Jordan, because of a DJ that was also playing on turntables, "this place is actually pretty cool!"
"I know, right?" Everyone ordered their drinks, mostly nonalcoholic, and just enjoyed themselves. In terms of bowling, Lance, of course, won due to being the ace, while everyone else did relatively well. After they finished eating, they decided it was time to head home.
Washington High Rise - 9:45 P.M.
"Wait, you live there too?" Sarah and Jordan were surprised to hear that Gavina and Devon also live in the same apartments.
"Yup! We live together. You know, us four are actually kind of alike now that I think of it. Alright, see ya tomorrow!" Everyone waved goodbye as Jordan, Sarah, Devon, and Gavina walked in and scanned, accessing the elevator. They continued their conversation as they reached their rooms.
"Wait, which apartment?"
"Um… room 516."
"Room 517! Right across from you!"
"Really?" This made Jordan ponder for a bit. "Hey, do you know what this kind of reminds me of?"
"Friends?"
"Yeah! I love that show! It's like us seven taking on the world! More or less…" Everyone was reminded of the show as they decided to call it a night. "Well, we better get resting! Never know what could happen tomorrow."
"Don't we know it. Oidhche mhath!" Sarah looked confused before Jordan clarified for her.
"It means 'good night'." Eyes was impressed. From the looks of it, he really was well versed in this type of stuff.
"Oh okay." They waved and went into their rooms. Jordan and Sarah did their usual nightly businesses before lying in their beds, which were pretty sleek and had communication with the other room, thanks to a screen next to the bed.
"Hey, buddy."
"Hey, Sarah."
"So, what are you thinking about doing?"
"Well, I was thinking about watching something on my phone or something. I don't know. But it will be until I go to sleep."
"Okay, goodnight."
'Goodnight." They ended their conversation as Jordan pulled something up on his phone.
"I think I'm going to enjoy this…"
AU: So here it is: the first chapter to Team Weird! So I really, really loved this movie. To the point where this became my favorite film from Blue Sky next to The Peanuts Movie. So Naturally, I did what any Internet-obsessed fan would do: do an OC insert series. I imagine this being created for a streaming service, like Disney+, so there might not be THAT many episodes… at least the ones I planned. But my current plan is to have this series go through 2019 to 2020.
And about the masked person in this episode, he may have used something a little familiar to those who have read my other stories but I'm not saying anything yet…
Also, I decided to give Eyes and Ears official names: Gavina Young and Devon James Karter. I should also note that these two are two of my favorites from the film, especially Eyes!
And as for the cloaked figure, I'm not gonna reveal who he is yet, though I will give some foreshadowing throughout the chapters, so look out for that.
Well, as always, leave a review! Never hurts to help!
