Self-Correction

Chapter 1 : Realization of Mistakes

Many individuals, at times, get into very difficult situations to realize that they cannot do anything about it. Some of them in these situations think of the ways through which they can get out of it but back off, just because sometimes it's impossible to face the problem and overcome it. But some individuals just prove the impossible as possible by facing all odds.

One such individual we are talking about is Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto was born 13 years ago in the Village Hidden in the Leaf on the 10th of October. Now at the time of his birth, a great tragedy happened on the Hidden Leaf, the attack of the Nine Tailed Fox, which left the village in a great peril.

Now to stop the destruction of the Village and to protect all its people, the Yondaime sacrificed his life by sealing the Kyuubi into a newborn baby and wanted the village to see him as a hero for holding the Kyuubi at bay. This newborn baby was Naruto Uzumaki who became the Jinchuriki of Kyuubi that night. The responsibility of the boy fell in the hands of the Third Hokage, as both his parents died during the attack of the Nine Tails making him an orphan.

Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, took the mantle of the Hokage again to establish stability in the Village. But he made a mistake by announcing the boy's status as the Kyuubi container, which led to great animosity towards him by most of the villagers. This forced the Third Hokage to make a S-Rank law to keep quiet about Naruto being the Kyuubi Jinchuriki and those who break the law are punishable by death penalty. He also cannot take care of him and thus enrolled him in the orphanage.

Because of this naruto had a very harsh childhood. He was kept separate from the other children in the orphanage, kicked out from there at the age of 5, spent half a year on the street, people selling spoiled goods at a very high price or outright refusing to sell anything, harsh whispers and glares everytime they see him, ignoring his very existence, occasional beatings at the Kyuubi festival on his very own birthday, sabotaged in the ninja academy,etc.

By facing such challenges in his life, he still became a Genin and to make people notice him he started playing pranks on people, irrespective if they were ninja, civilians, clan members, anbu or even the Hokage himself. Now we find our hero coming back to the village from a mission.

|| === In the Forest near Konoha === ||

Currently we see Naruto with his teammates Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno and his jounin sensei Kakashi Hatake returning from the C ranked upgraded A ranked mission in waves, where he once again done almost impossible by standing against the Demon of the Hidden Mist Zabuza Momochi and his skilled apprentice Haku of the Ice Bloodline, saving a country from a tyrant, arising hope in the said country, getting a bridge named after him and having the first experience with his tenant's chakra.

"I was so weak back there" thought Naruto as he was recalling the fight that happened on the bridge where he faced the Fake hunter ninja which was later found as Haku.

"Sasuke was fighting on his own strength but to even hold up I had to rely on Kyuubi's power and even that I was unable to control."

The mission to wave from time on time made him realize that he was not ready to face the challenges ahead of him for the path of being a Hokage. He was thinking he is not ready and that he has made many mistakes in the past of not properly attending the Ninja Academy, not for searching different ways to improve himself, for showing hesitation in asking for help from the Third Hokage who he nicknamed as Old Man. Because of these things his Taijutsu is just a brawler style of combat, being a chakra powerhouse and not doing any chakra control exercise his Genjutsu is basically non-existent and Ninjutsu is just the Academy three jutsu and Kage Bunshin no Jutsu not including Bunshin no Jutsu.

Aside from that, he also doesn't have any knowledge about the geographical structure of the Elemental Nation, History about various powerful figures around the Elemental Nations (both existing and non-existing ones), Threats like Nuke-ninja or the Villages that don't have good relations with Hidden Leaf, Knowledge about the Clans reside in the Village and no knowledge of other ninja skills like Sabotage, Infiltration, Trap Making, Tracking, Kenjutsu etc.

All in all, he found himself lacking many things that makes one a great ninja. That's why we can see him being depressed about it as his team enters the Village Gates.

After checking in with the gate guards, Kakashi turned towards his team and said, "I will report about the mission to the Hokage, you can all go now and take a rest, report on the Training Ground 7 tomorrow at 9 am, Dismissed."

Sasuke walked away towards his house after Kakashi left with Shunshin, and with Sakura trailing behind him pestering him about going on a date leaving Naruto to his thoughts.

"I should go to the Old man to talk about this. Maybe he could suggest to me what to do further to improve myself."

So with the thought of improving himself for the better and with a destination in mind, Naruto started walking to the Hokage Tower.

|| === Hokage Office === ||

"...and that's about it, Hokage-sama", said Kakashi.

Listening to the report behind the desk was the current Hokage of Konoha, Hiruzen Sarutobi, a war veteran participated in all the Three Great Ninja Wars, disciple of the previous Hokage Tobirama Senju with Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane as teammates, teacher of the Sannin, Master of many jutsus, nicknamed as the Professor and hailed as the God of Shinobi in the Ninja world, taken the mantle of Hokage at a young age and led Konoha towards the Second and Third Great Ninja Wars and also a strong believer in the Will of Fire.

Currently, he was in his Hokage robes thinking about the situation that fell upon Team 7 in their latest mission and the utilization of the Kyuubi's chakra by Naruto.

"I should have known that something like this would happen" thought Sarutobi.

"Ok, submit the return report to the Mission desk by tomorrow and collect your team's payment from there. Your team will be on leave for a week, you are dismissed."

"Hai Hokage-sama" said Kakashi and left the office in Leaf Shunshin.

"Well they now know about the dangers that await them on their path of being a Ninja but how they handle it, we will have to see it" was the thought of the Hokage as he started doing his paperwork.

As Sarutobi was doing his work he started thinking about Naruto and his current condition and the life he had.

"Just because of the misconceptions and fear of others, naruto has to suffer so much. Either I was busy solving the different problems of the village or I had my hands tied to help the boy other than the occasional visit or ramen" thought the Hokage by recounting all the past mistakes which happened by him unknowingly or not as he heard a knock on his office door.

"Enter" said the Hokage while thinking who would be at the door but not surprised to find naruto as he always used to come now and then.

"Hello Naruto, how are you my boy?" said the Hokage with a smile as he asked the boy who he saw as a grandson.

"Hello Old Man, I am fine. I just came to talk about something with you regarding my previous mission" said Naruto, being somewhat nervous in the end.

After activating silencing seals of the office, the Hokage told Naruto to sit down and asked "So tell me what you wanted to say about it?"

"In the previous mission I have realized many things, that to be a Ninja I should know my basics and at least be knowledgeable in key areas like about different dangers, geographic knowledge of the area and some complementary skills to help when you are in a tight spot. The only thing I have done in a tight spot is to access Kyuubi's Chakra which i don't want now until I make myself stronger but there isn't anyone to teach me these things so can you provide some tips or advice on what i should do."

"What about Kakashi, he is your Sensei right?. Is he not teaching you about this" said Hokage with a little anger in mind over Kakashi's habits.

"He is mostly concentrated on Teamwork and sometimes doing personal training with Sasuke. I think he doesn't have any plans on focusing towards individual growth other than Sasuke."

"I think you should first start to catch up the Academy curriculum and all the topics in there, after that come to me I will provide you some tips on training and maybe a few jutsus."

"Thank you Old man but how i will be able to catch up such a large portion in a short amount of time" said a dejected Naruto at the prospect of improving himself but then realising that it's not possible to do such a thing easily.

"Tell me Naruto, do you ever think why the Shadow Clone Jutsu was kept in the Forbidden Scroll?" said Sarutobi to Naruto to find how much time it will take for him to realise the true reason for it.

"I don't know, maybe the amount of chakra it requires to make one, so if a person who doesn't have the required quantity may kill himself because of performing it" said Naruto showing his hidden intellect which has remained undiscovered because of sabotage in his education.

"And the other reason?"

"What other reason?"

"I thought you should have known about it already with your habit of spamming clones in masses"

"I really don't know what are you talking about"

"Ok, so listen carefully, Shadow Clones can provide it's memories to the original that's why they are mainly used for Intelligence gathering purposes when infiltrating enemy territories. The other reason it is considered Forbidden is because if the memory transfer is too much or abruptly many at the same time it may cause the death of the user" explained the Hokage to inform him of the solution of his problem.

"So it's nice and all that you told me about the Shadow Clones but i still don't know how to solve my problem"

"Naruto what I am trying to say is that they provide mental feedback to you whatever they do, so you can use them for your training like if you and your Shadow Clone do any training let's say a Jutsu, you can reduce the time to learn that Jutsu in half the original, so as you increase the number of your clones the more training you can cover in less time except physical related training and exercise which you have to do on your own" said the Hokage seeing the realization in his eyes.

"YESSS, thank you Old man, thank you very much. By this I will be an excellent Ninja in no time"

"I have no doubt that you will be one day but promise me that you will not use more than 100 Shadow Clones at a time and dispel them in a group of 10 every minute then only I will allow you to do this method of training"

"I promise old man and i will follow how you had instructed me but where will I find the material to gain the Academy knowledge"

Sarutobi replied after writing a note and giving it to him, "You can go to the Ninja Library and study from there, show the librarian this note if he says something".

"I owe you for this Old man, thanks a lot for providing the help, I will come again real quick next time for more help, bye" said Naruto as he was exiting the office.

"You can come anytime you want if you get in any trouble, Naruto" said Sarutobi as Naruto left the office.

The Hokage smiled after seeing Naruto happy again and started doing his work.

"You know, you both can come out"

"Nothing gets past you, does it Sensei?" chuckled Jiraiya as he and Kakashi came into view from their hiding spot in the corner.

"You're still too soon to catch me off guard Jiraiya and Kakashi i thought you have left the office, imagine my surprise when I detected you with Jiraiya as i was speaking with Naruto" said the Hokage in a little bit angry mood when recalling about his habits and partiality towards his team.

"I was leaving the office when Lord Jiraiya came up to me to accompany him to your office," said Kakashi standing a little bit nervous without his famous porn book as he had heard his student's thoughts with Jiraiya on the side listening to their conversation.

"Can you answer me Kakashi regarding what I just heard from Naruto?"

"I wanted to focus on the teamwork of the team to provide a base to them and from there to help them develop further into better ninja, Hokage-sama"

"If what you say according to you is true then why are you providing Sasuke individual training without providing or either instructing the other genins of your team, Kakashi?"

"I was not giving anyone personal training, Hokage-sama. Naruto must have spotted me providing Sasuke pointers the few times he asked about the techniques he is learning from Uchiha library" said Kakashi little bit disheartened that naruto would be suspicious of his teachings.

"Don't be sad Kakashi, till now except a few people, no one has taken any efforts towards his development instead they have sabotaged him as much as possible, even I was unable to control that damage due to my responsibilities towards the village" explained Sarutobi.

"If I have taken care of him this might have never happened" thought Jiraiya, thinking about how he failed his student and godson.

Sarutobi saw the expression on Jiraiya's face from the corner of his eyes, which was racked with guilt and shame, by which he deduced what he was thinking about.

"Look we all know that by some way or other we have failed Naruto but instead of thinking about the past why not we concentrate on how we can help him now" told Sarutobi to both Jiraiya and Kakashi.

After listening to the Hokages advice, Kakashi started to think of different ways to help his team and concentrate on Naruto a bit more, so he can get to know a bit more about his Sensei's son and help him to become a better Ninja, and with that Kakashi thanked the Hokage for his advice and exited the office with a leaf shushin towards his house to make further plans.

"I really like to do more than help naruto become a better ninja but I got a lead on Orochimaru and this connects to the new Hidden Village we are hearing about, the Hidden Sound Village" told Jiraiya to the Hokage with a serious expression in his face, keeping the turmoil of emotions regarding his godson to deal with later.

"Are sure about it Jiraiya" asked Hokage.

"Yes, the information has come from a reliable source and it is going to be some big news if Orochimaru is involved in it. I have to do more investigation to find out about what is going on, so I have to go now. I just came to drop by to see and hear how is he"

"It's fine but send me the report regarding it as soon as possible," said Hokage after which Toad Sannin gave an affirmative nod and left the office through the window.

Many things started to play in the mind of Hokage about the ongoing situations when he resumed to complete his paperwork, which in itself is a tedious task to perform and started to get irritated by it.

"I don't know if I am going to die of old age or paperwork" muttered the Sandaime out loud as he was finishing his work, the ANBU guarding the Hokage sweatdropped after hearing their Leader's thought.

This the end of first chapter of this story. Not decided for the pairing yet but I am free for your suggestions.
