Author's Note
Before I begin this story, there are some things I would want to tell you guys about what's been happening in the world right now. I'm extremely aware of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that's been occuring and going around the world since January, but rest assured I am still safe and uninfected. I'm also disappointed, shocked and angered that some events and movies that were supposed to come out on the second half of 2020 (in late March, most of April, and a few in May, June and early July) were either moved, delayed or cancelled; some of those being E3, the Cannes Film Festival, No Time to Die (which moved from April to November 2020), A Quiet Place Part II, Mulan, The New Mutants, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Black Widow, Antlers, Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, The Lovebirds, The Woman in the Window, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Antebellum, the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games, Wonder Woman 1984 (which moved from June to August 2020), In the Heights, Malignant, Scoob!, F9 (which moved from May 2020 to April 2021, almost a year longer on Fast and Furious 10's original release date), and furthermore. However, movies like Trolls World Tour, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Artemis Fowl, Soul, Candyman, Top Gun: Maverick and a few others still have theatrical releases that are either unaffected by the Coronavirus delays (hopefully they'll make it out okay because we don't want to see them get delayed like the others), received streaming releases, or still intact for theatrical release. Even managed to get Doom Eternal amidst the outbreak so I could play it on the XBOX One during the rest of the quarantine period (don't panic, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great game and is still available for those who like to play it). Although the world is currently still making maximum efforts to contain the virus and flatten the curve in heavily affected countries as well as others for the future, I have very high hopes that everyone would be okay by the end. Hopefully we'll all be able to flatten that curve to the curb. But we all need to be careful and not contract the virus when things eventually start to smooth up a bit as the weeks go by. Best of luck to all of us. :(
The story you're about to read does not take place or take part in my Romance Anthology series and may be familiar to the pairing featured from my current Christmas crossover story (more details to be revealed later in my other story), but may be related to a minimum extent. This takes place in an fantasy AU (possibly with a few minor anachronisms), featuring a few characters from the anime Marvel Future Avengers (no superpowers will be featured in thie story) and several from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, and is based on a LGBT fantasy story I once read and seen on YouTube. Out of all the romantic LGBT fics and stories I wrote so far, I would consider this as one of my most passionate fics for the genre. Instead of intending to make this story a one-shot like the Romance Anthology, I've decided to split the story into three parts. Also, I am now planning on using different time themes for two other different stories in the future, with all three romantic fanfics forming a collection (similar to my Romance Anthology series) known as Relationships of the Past. Conclusively, this story is going to have a ton of fluff, romance and some drama along the way. Rated T for intimacy, violence and mild use of language. My working title for this story is Eternity.
I DON'T OWN ANYTHING; all characters, shows and properties all belong to their respective owners. Enjoy!
The Romance of the Marvelous Knight
Part 1
The Blue Maiden
Once upon a time, there was an kingdom named Cyberlis.
The castle was as big as the other kingdoms' castles, while it also had two big towers with several arches, black and red flags, and a drawbridge.
There was no king or queen in this kingdom, however, but there lived a noble prince named Ai.
And his time was going to come.
One morning in the royal throne room as Ai sat on his throne, wearing a red princely outfit and a golden crown on his head with his assistant Roboppi by his side, one of his soldiers came by to be given the next order.
"Bring me my most worthy knight, if you will.", Ai ordered, his head resting on his fist as he tapped his fingers on the throne's right arm.
He replied, "Yes, your majesty.", as he turned and went on his way.
The soldier then went to the castle's armory, where he finds an anonymously armored knight.
"Uh...sorry to interrupt the moment, but Prince Ai has requested your prescence at once, loyal knight.", the royal soldier reported, "He wishes to see you."
The knight turned, resting its sword on its shoulder, turning around to reveal its face hidden with a silver helmet (with two sharp half-crescent-shaped eyeholes and a visor), and wearing a set of silver steel-plated armor all around and on her body that hides the knight's identity, with a red-yellowish cape and a dragonic symbol on her crest armor.
Simply nodding without saying a word, the knight follows the soldier back to the throne room.
There, Ai and his assistant see both the knight and the soldier return, the latter going back to his royal duties and letting the knight listen to the prince's next objective.
"Your royal highness," the knight sternly said, "What have you asked me for?"
Ai pondered, "Well, my marvelous knight, there's something important I want you to do for me. There's a girl..."
"A girl?", the knight asked.
He continued, "Yes, my loyal knight. The girl is a beautiful princess in the neighbouring kingdom of Linkadia. What I want is for you to go rescue her for me."
"What will you do if I bring her here?", clarifies the knight.
The black-haired prince answered, "And for that, I will marry her, so I could become king and she will become my queen."
"But what will happen if you don't marry the princess?", the knight asked.
Roboppi said for her superior prince, "Then there will be a war between the kingdoms of Cyberlis and Linkadia. Lives will be lost...and both our kingdoms will fall."
"But only if I marry her, there will be no war.", finished Ai.
"Not to cause a commotion or anything but, your highness, if there's a princess that you want to marry, shouldn't you be the one to go get here? Look, I do know that Linkadia may be different, but she might marry the one who comes to rescue her.", the knight issued.
Ai then started giggling, which faintly turns into a small laugh that sounded a bit sinister, "Why, no, my knight. In fact, the kingdom doesn't allow that."
"You see, the prince is needed for urgent duties in the castle and the village outside. He has a lot of businesses to attend to.", the prince's assistant Roboppi stated.
The prince then said, "Therefore, I can't leave. That is why I'm sending you, my most trustworthy knight. Now go."
"Whatever you say, your majesty.", the knight said, leaving as Ai and Roboppi look on.
"If you cannot leave for means like this, then why should I?", thought the knight, as it strolled across the village when beginning its journey to get the Linkadian princess.
It turned its head to see some peasants doing their daily duties in the village, with a few making a commotion as a merchant had ran out of food for his market stand after selling all his minimalist food supplies, with the peasant fighting with the merchant, the former shouting and making claims that it was the prince's doing while a couple guards restrain him.
"Now I have to deal with a lazy prince...and a damsel-in-distress.", also thought the knight as it went pass the incident and started its long journey to retrieve the princess of Linkadia.
"Skye!"
Meanwhile in the kingdom of Linkadia, miles away from the Cyberlis kingdom, lived a beautiful princess named Skye. She had lovely long, wavy flowing sky-blue hair with some of her hair pulled back in a bun, her hair also having a short pink highlight with blue shoulder-length bangs that part to the left, as well as shining blue eyes, blue eyebrows, two heart-shaped earrings and soft pink lipstick, wearing a majestic sky-blue princess gown, a pair of pink kitten heels, and a Lapis Lazuli-encrusted crown donned on top of her head. And most of all, even her beauty matches the daily sky, hence the name.
"Yes?", the princess Skye asked.
The person who was calling for her was a friend of Skye's, named Emma. She was a tall woman with fair skin, had pink eyes, black eyelashes, long slightly-braided gray hair with lavender bangs and reddish-pink lipstick on her lips, wearing a mauve-purple cape-sleeved medieval handmaiden outfit, although she had no shoes on since Emma usually loved being barefoot (also to the point of refusing to wear any footwear), notwithstanding the fact that her feet had been pampered every now and then, while her toenails were painted lavender. Still, she looked stylish for the most part.
Emma said to her dear friend, "I recently heard the news that someone is coming."
"What? Who?", interested Skye.
Her friend said, "It happens to be a knight. Someone had saw this and made the report."
Skye could not help but swoon to the thought of it all.
"A knight is coming! Perhaps they're going to come rescue me from this kingdom!", swoons Skye.
Emma added, rolling her eyes in amusement whilst smiling, "Though we've all been treated fairly and had no paternal or familiar issues whatsoever."
"And sooner or later, the knight is going to marry me!", anticipated the sky-blue-colored princess.
The gray-purple haired woman asked her, "Skye, how do you know you are getting married?", embarrassing Skye.
She saddened, "But my brother and my parents keep saying that one day I'll have to marry..."
"I think what they meant was that they wanted you to wait for you to get older for that kind of stuff, I don't know.", Emma said, sitting and caressing her bare feet, "Though, the law states that a princess like you must be married."
Skye wondered, "But what if I have to get married now?"
"Well...", hesitated Emma, thinking this through; "Maybe you should let it happen."
Skye felt overwhelmed and worried on the thought of her marriage, sighing.
Emma continued, "But if I don't marry someone soon enough, the kingdoms of Cyberlis and Linkadia are going to be at war. You don't want that to happen, do you?", doubting.
Skye took a moment to think over this. Of course, she never wanted a war between the Cyberlisian and Linkadian kingdoms like everybody else, but if she had to marry someone to prevent an all-out war from happening, then this would be an effort that the princess herself would be willing to take.
"I guess so.", agreed Skye gloomily.
Emma confided and put her hand on Skye's left shoulder, "Then it is time, my friend.", smiling happily at her as her friend smiled back.
Soon, the knight had finally arrived at the kingdom of Linkadia.
Walking through the busy village outside of the huge castle, which was definitely bigger than the Cyberlisian castle, the knight went up a small stairway to the bridge and reaches the grand entrance of the castle with several guards outside and a iron-barred gate.
"At last.", the knight thought to itself, walking across the bridge to the castle entrance.
The Linkadian guards suddenly gathered side-by-side and readied their weapons, the leader of the guards, the princess' saying, "Halt! Who are you and what brought you here?"
"I mean no harm. I'm who they call the Marvelous Knight of Cyberlis, I come from the kingdom of Cyberlis. I came to bring the princess to the prince. Prince's orders, sir."
The guards stand down their weapons, the leader of the guards saying, "Well, then. You may pass.", the guards making way for the knight and opened the iron gate, the latter nodding as it makes its way into the kingdom.
Inside, the knight makes it's way across the courtyard and the throne room, where something beautiful happened.
The Linkadian princess, Skye, was entering the throne room, where the knight saw her, with its heart unknowningly skipping a beat. As soon as the princess looked at the knight who came in, her heart skipped a beat as well.
Plus, they were the only two people in the room at this time.
The princess said in an amicable manner after this passionate moment, "Are you...?"
"The Marvelous Knight of Cyberlis. I come from the Cyberlis kingdom. And you are...?"
"I'm the Princess of Linkadia, from the Zaizen bloodline. The Linkadian villagers also call me The Blue Maiden."
"My lady...", the knight said, "My prince has sent me to come and retrieve you.", bowing and resting its hand on its chest, "For he who wants to marry you."
Skye then replied, "But...whoever shall save me, the knight, which would be you..."
The knight listened closely, standing back straight to face her.
Then the princess said at that very moment;
"...then you would be the one to take my hand in marriage..."
The knight gasped quietly with its eyes widening, barely seen through the hollow eyeholes of its helmet. Skye blushed and looked down, hoping to get a positive response.
"She's so beautiful... No wonder the prince wants to marry her.", though the prince before saying out loud, "Where is the King and Queen of Linkadia at this moment?"
Skye said, "Oh. My parents? They're both at the garden in the courtyard, having a cup of tea with noble friends of theirs. They've been really busy lately, you know. Already told them and my brother Akira that the knight was coming, so...", hesitating as she caught a glimpse at the handsome anonymous knight, "Can you...take off your helmet? I want to see your face...", asking this curiously and affectionate.
"I...don't see why not.", decided the knight, accepting to take off its helmet and reveal its identity.
Inevitably, the knight then grabbed both sides of its helmet, and lifted the helmet off its head.
And Skye was speechless when she saw the knight's true identity, blushing more intensely.
The knight was actually a woman.
Though she was a tad taller than the princess, the female knight had strikingly long blonde hair (having a bit messy style and a long small cowlick), yellow eyebrows and blue eyes, yet with no lipstick applied. Her body was still covered in her heavy steel armor since she was indeed a knight herself.
She said, "My lady...", putting her knight helmet on her sword's scabbard, "I...I'm not sure if it's a good idea to marry me.", blushing faintly and uncertain.
The female knight then saw the Blue Maiden still look at her with much hope and passion, still blushing by the second.
"Although it wouldn't hurt...", thought the female knight, supposedly wanting to take back what she just told.
Skye delicately told, "You're a...girl? But...every knight I have seen is actually a boy. Why's that?", chuckling in embarassment.
"I was raised to become a knight. My fellow prince even believed for me to become a strong soldier, and I would not allow anything bad happen to him.", says the knight.
The blue-haired princess then blushed again and puts her left arm behind her head bashfully, "Well...a knight like you...would actually be better than any knight I would have now...", cutting to the chase, "But in case you're wondering what my name is, you call me Skye."
"So you're named after the sky itself.", presumed the female knight, "Well, Skye, will it be possible if you come back with me back to the prince's kingdom?"
The Blue Maiden stated, clearing her throat and declared, "I'm obligated to marry the knight so kind enough to travel all this way...going through many obstacles...to meet me..."
"She's so beautiful...", thought the knight at that moment, before she sighed; "Princess," she said as she offered Skye her hand, "I'm afraid we can't marry, princess. Otherwise the prince is going to cast me out, or even worse, he'll have me executed. He'd never want to see or have anything to do with me ever again."
The female knight takes the princess' hand, leading the way as the two were about to leave the throne room.
"Wait!", Skye said in a feminine manner, as the knight stopped in her tracks and faced the princess, "Please, kind knight, what is your name?"
The knight revealed, "We can talk more when we get out of the castle.", as the two of them then left the throne room.
Unknowingly to them, Skye's friend Emma, who was by one of the arched doorways to the throne room, had listened and seen the entire thing, totally surprised by the discovery of the female knight.
"I can't believe it...", Emma spoke to herself quietly, surprised as she rest one of her bare feet on top of the other, "...the knight is a girl.", thinking momentarily and then said to herself, "I know she has to take her to the prince, but still, the knight might be a chance for her...", ultimately smiling happily to the thought of it, "Good luck, Skye.", before leaving the scene.
As soon as both the female knight and the princess left the courtyard and the castle grounds, reaching across the end of the bridge to the stairway, the latter had the opportunity to ask, "Please...what is your name, Marvelous Knight?"
"Now isn't the time, my lady. My fellow prince is waiting for me to return-", the knight refused.
Skye fumed, "As the princess of Linkadia, I demand you tell me!", resting her arms and sitting on the bridge in a cute, frilly manner.
The blonde couldn't help but blush a bit by the feminine personality the princess had. It almost seemed like the two looked like a match for each other.
"Okay.", said the female knight and making Skye happy again as the former puts her hand on her armored chest, "My name is Carol, and I am the prince's most trustworthy knight, known as The Marvelous Knight of Cyberlis.", before she grabbed her steel helmet and put it back on.
Skye giggled, "Your name is actually pretty cute."
"Let's hurry now.", Carol said, holding Skye's hand as the two began their journey back to Cyberlis, proudly passing by the kingdom's village and its friendly inhabitants.
As the two of them heard some whispers by the villagers saying, "It's the Blue Maiden!", "The Princess of Linkadia!", or "Who is that handsome knight? I don't even recognize him one bit!", Skye caught up with Carol and held her other hand on her armored left arm.
"I may always see knights fight...but I always find it fascinating.", thought Skye as the two of them left on their journey back to Cyberlis.
But the journey back wasn't as easy as before.
As Carol and Skye walk through the forest, the former stopped walking.
"Carol? What's wrong-", Skye asked warily.
The knight then told the princess, "Get down.", escorting herself and the princess hurrily behind the nearby bushes, hidden in plain sight.
"What's going on?", worried the princess.
Carol said, "Someone's coming. Stay still and be quiet."
Just then, they saw a bandit arrive at the scene, searching for people to attack and loot from them. Carol put her hand on Skye's mouth so they won't make any noise.
The bandit then decided to walk off to the path on his right. As they saw him finally leave while the two girls stayed hidden for a few more moments, it was finally time for the two of them to escape.
"The coast is clear.", ensured Carol, as she guarded Skye as the two were about to advance...
All of a sudden, the bandit appeared from the bushes, letting out a psychotic yell and was about to attack them with his sword!
"CAROL, LOOK OUT!", the princess Skye screamed in horror.
*CLANK!*
Carol had took out her sword and blocked the bandit's attack just in time!
Skye hides behind a tree as she saw the two start battling.
The knight and the bandit fought with their swords, the former starting by using her strength to stagger the bandit back, with the latter attempting to strike again as he charged psychopathically at the knight with a foreswing, but the knight dodges this. The two continue striking each other's swords without losing their balance or hitting anything in the forest, until at one point Carol's sword was swung off her hand, landing in another few shrubs several feet from the two!
The bandit then tries striking the knight with his sword, but she dodges as the blade hit the tree near her. A few seconds before the bandit could get his sword free from the hard tree wood, Carol ran to the site of the bushes and frantically searches for her sword. However, the bandit was quickly rushing towards her just mere moments when Carol found her sword.
Carol lets out a battle cry as she quickly turned and readied her blade in a longpoint guard stance at the bandit...
Silence.
Skye, when witnessing this fight, didn't see the end result, as she came out from hiding behind the tree and said, "CAROL!", running over to where the bandit lied on top of the knight, "Carol!", tears running down from her eyes.
The Blue Maiden then heard the Marvelous Knight's faint breathing, the former gasping as she stopped crying.
The knight pushed the bandit off her, revealing a big wound on the bandit's chest after she stabbed him dead, while a dent was seen on Carol's helmet as a result from the bandit's last attack.
"Carol...", tearfully said Skye.
Carol looked at her whilst still wearing her helmet, "My lady..."
"You saved me...", hoped the princess, leaning down and embracing the knight, "My hero..."
While Carol felt her embrace and was a bit surprised, she then decides to embrace her back, thinking to herself; "Goodness gracious. Thank God my beautiful princess didn't get hurt. The prince's princess, I mean..."
Skye, however, notices a small trace of blood coming out of a few orifices from her left arm's armor.
"My knight...your arm...", the princess worried.
The knight said, "Yeah...the bandit hit me on the arm. I'm willing to protect you, but I'm also may be willing to die for you."
"No...", nodded Skye, a bit cautious, "C-can we j-just go now?"
The two of them stood up, facing each other. Carol once again took off her helmet, revealing her face again to Skye as she giggled.
Carol kittenishly joked, "You want to go now? My, I thought you wanted to marry me.", as Skye blushed again, embarrassed.
"I...", shyly stated the Blue Maiden, "I'll be willing to help you! Is your wound going to be okay?"
The Marvelous Knight told, "We'll take care of it as soon as we find shelter."
Romantically, Skye then leaned up and kissed Carol's cheek.
"Huh?", Carol felt the sudden peck by the princess, looking at Skye as she saw her smile. The brave woman then thought to herself as she blushed;
"So romantic."
The two then continue their journey onward, leaving the forest as the day turns to dusk...
