Prologue
A dark robes man glided down the sidewalk with barely a sound as he ignored the people walking past him. Should any of those people look into the man's hood they would have seen a reptile snake like face with evil malice filled blood red eyes.
"Nice costume mister!" A little boy no more than nine years old said to the man just before he ran away in fright when he seen the man's face.
Halloween, oh how much the man hated Halloween. And the children, he also hated children, especially muggle children.
Ignoring the urge to suddenly start killing everyone on the street; the man quickly made his way to the one house on the street that was passed by everyone, children and adult alike without a single glance.
The house was shining like a beacon in the darkness, a beacon that was about to be snuffed out. The man couldn't help but grin in sardonic pleasure at what he was about to do.
Walking through the gate he glanced through one of the windows into the living room where an older man with grey streaks through his hair played with two babies. He was creating illusions of fairies and dragons with his wand above the giggling children who tried to catch them with their hands. The older, Charlus Potter the man recognized, then sat his wand down ending the illusions when an older woman also with greying hair came in the room smiling. She picked up the children, one in each arm and walked out.
Looking away from the window the man took out his wand and went up to the front door. With barely a flick of his wrist the door exploded sending shards of wood flying in every direction.
Stepping inside the man felt a cold smirk cross his face as Charlus Potter rushed into the hall from the living room looking at him with anger and fear.
"Dorea it's him! It's Voldemort, he is here!" Charlus yelled. "Take the Children and run!"
Voldemort let out a chilling laugh when he watched Charlus reach for his wand and come up empty. The fool actually forgot his wand.
With a lazy gesture Voldemort aimed his wand at Charlus and hissed. "Avada Kedavra." The killing curse hit Charlus square in the chest causing him to drop dead on the spot.
Stepping over the lifeless body, Voldemort glided up the stairs to the second floor of the house and stopped outside the Nursery door. With another slight flick he exploded the door and walked in savoring the screams his entrance caused.
"Dorea Potter ńee Black." Voldemort mused to the older woman who was trying to shield the two cribs with her body. "You are of a great pure blood line, because of that if you stand aside, I will let you live." He promised.
"No not the twins take me instead." Dorea begged instead as she shook her head no at the offer. Still not moving away from the cribs.
"Stand aside woman." Voldemort ordered with a snarl. The grip on his temper starting to break.
"No not Iris or Charlus! Have mercy please!" Dorea begged in tears. "Please not the twins, kill me instead!"
His patience finally snapping Voldemort raised his wand and yelled the killing curse, killing Dorea Potter in a green flash of light.
Fuming Voldemort stepped up tithe two crib and looked at the two children in them. One was a boy with messy raven colored hair and hazel colored eyes. The other child was a girl also with raven colored hair but the wad red streaks shooting through it giving it highlights. She also had the most mesmerizing pair of green eyes.
"Charlus and Iris Potter." Voldemort said with a barely audible whisper. "The greatest threats to me shall end here."
Pointing his wand Voldemort incantated "Avada Kedavra." Casting the deadliest curse known at the baby boy.
Not waiting to see the effects of the curse he turned to the girl and cast the second killing curse at her.
Stepping back with a sickening smile of satisfaction, Voldemort froze when he looked at the boy again.
Touching Charlus forehead, suspended in midair was the killing curse. It's green jet of light pulsing dangerously. Suddenly faster than Voldemort could react the jet of light shot back at him and slammed into him. After a few short moments of incomprehensible pain Voldemort exploded in a magical explosion.
As a shade rose up from the ashes of Voldemort' s remains and flew out of the destroyed Nursery Charlus passed out with a lightning bolt shaped cut bleeding all over his forehead.
In the next crib over the spell also hit Iris in the head. But something completely different happened. The moment the magical explosion touched the killing curse that struck Iris it got stuck into a swirling vortex bouncing back and forth between the explosion and the blood protection. The spell quickly within a fraction of a moment created a swirling fiery vortex that formed into a purple and black sphere at its center. The sphere surrounded Iris; completely consuming her before it disappeared as fast as it appeared. Leaving behind an empty smoldering crib filled with debris.
Impatiently Lily Potter sat in her chair in a back room at the Hogshead tavern. The meeting for the Order of The Phoenix that she was at seemed to drag on forever. All she really wanted to do is to be home with her babies. She didn't want to be at the meeting in the first place but James wanted to get out of the house. So, they left Iris and Charlus with James's parents. To make the meeting seem to go on even longer she had a horrible feeling of dread that something wrong was going to happen when they left. She ended up chalking it up to it being the first time she left her twins.
Except the feeling still hasn't left. She knew she would feel better when she got home to see her babies.
"Remus will you give your report on the werewolves?" Professor Dumbledore asked a friend of hers and one of James best friends Remus Lupin.
"Of course, professor." Remix answered ad he stood up from where he sat next to James and Sirius. "Fenrir Greyback is stepping up his recruiting among the werewolf and is now starting to incite fear among-"
Lily grew distracted away from Remus's report as the feeling of dread escalated to a new height. She felt like a very piece of her heart and soul was very violently and painfully ripped out of her.
Clutching her heart, she shot to her feet with tears in her eyes drawing everyone's attention to her. "Lily what is go-" someone started to ask be for she interrupted them, fear thick in her voice.
"James, we need to go home now!" James looked at for a few moments in confusion before a look of horror dawned on his face.
"The wards around the cottage just collapsed." He whispered in shock before he shot to his feet.
Ignoring the yelling Lily turned on the spot and disapperated from the Hogshead, reappearing outside of her house in Godric's Hollow. Within seconds the loud cracks of apparition sounded around her signaling the arrival of others. Except Lily didn't notice, all she could notice was the massive hole in the roof of the house. Right where the nursery should be.
"No, no. Merlin please no." Lily muttered fervently in shock.
"Lily we need to go and check inside." James interrupted he stupor by grabbing her shoulder with one as he appeared next her and shook her.
Nodding numbly Lily walked to the house on shaky legs accompied by James. When they reached the front door, she had to suppress a shudder at its remains. Stepping inside she gasped when she seen her father in law, Charlus Potter, lying on the ground dead.
"Dad." James whispered with a pained expression. They stood there for a few moments unmoving until a baby's cry roused them into action.
"Charlus!" Lily yelled, recognizing the cry instantly. James shot up the stairs first taking them two at a time. Lily followed him closely. Arriving at the nursey they quickly entered it stepping past Dorea's body to Charlus crib.
Stepping up to her son's crib where Charlus sat crying Lily nearly cried in relief when all they could see was a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead. "He's okay Lily." James said relief thick in his voice. "Charlus is alive."
"Thank Merlin, let's check on Iris." Lily smiled as she turned to Iris's crib, her smile quickly vanishing from her face. She froze in horror as she stared at what was left of the crib. In front of her sat a destroyed crib with burn marks all over it. There was ash all over the inside of it mingling with debris from the ceiling.
"James where is Iris?" She whispered with a Horace voice before she cried out hysterically. "James where is my baby girl?"
In another world in a land called Cyrrodill in the middle of a forest a fiery purple sphere suddenly appeared for a few seconds and then disappeared as fast is it appeared. Behind in the wake of the sphere was a little baby girl with wide green eyes and black hair with red streaks. On the child's forehead was a cut in the shape of a lightning bolt slowly leaking blood down her forehead.
The child sat there for a few minutes as silent tears spilled down her cheeks in a wet sheen. All the she looked around the forest clearing frantically. She hurt, she was scarred, and she wanted her Mommy and Daddy but couldn't find them. She sat there for a short while before noise drew her attention.
"Sir I'm sure I seen some light over here and heard something." Came a man's voice from out of the underbrush surrounding her.
Looking towards the direction of the bushes she watched as a half a dozen men in armor trooped out of the bushes. As she let out a quiet sob, her lips trembling the men stopped and stared at her in shock.
"Is that... a baby?" Asked one of the soldiers.
The shocked men sat watching the crying child for a minute before one jumped into action. "It's injured on its forehead. I'll try I to heal her, the rest of you fan out and form a perimeter, see if you could find its parents!"
The Praefect of the soldiers ordered as he slowly approach the silent baby with large green eyes. Crouching in front of her the man reached his hands out in front of her forehead and stretch his fingers out. A soft golden light shot out of them shining on the cut and knitted the skin back together. Within seconds all that was left was an angry red lightning bolt shaped scar.
"Damn I am really bad at healing." The man sighed tiredly. He then picked up the girl, cradling her in his arms as she started to fall asleep.
"Private, report." Ordered Praefect ordered when a private reported that the perimeter was formed.
"The scouts have gone out and they are looking for any signs of nearby life, so far they have not discovered anything."
Frowning the Praefect thought for a few seconds before coming to a decision. "We cannot leave the girl here." The Praefect sighed as he looked at the girl, who was wearing very odd clothing, snuggle up in his arms and against his chest.
"We need to continue our patrol; the scouts have ten minutes before I want them back. If they don't find anything then we will keep our eyes out during the patrol." With one last frown at the child he finished "if nothing is discovered we will bring her to an orphanage in the Imperial City after the patrol is finished, The Guard can put out a notice about where we found her."
Fifteen minutes later the soldiers continued their night patrol, with Iris held awkwardly in the Praefect's arms.
"Has anyone found her Professor?" Lily's voice quivered as noticeably as Albus Dumbledore entered his office.
"I'm sorry Lily and James." The headmasters voice was grave as he walked around his desk and sat down with very little grace into his chair. He felt old, older than he had in years.
"We detected three uses of the killing curse in your nursey. We know you mother was struck by one of them James. We also suspect that something happened to Voldemort. His wand was on the floor of the nursey." He revealed to the parent shock.
"But we cannot find Iris."
Lily burst into tears as she clutched Charlus "No, no, please no!" she moaned in obvious pain. In the chair next to her James stiffened, sitting up straighter looking pale.
"We…" he started before he stopped for a second before starting again. "Due to the damage done to the room it is a very real possibility that she was killed."
"What about Voldemort?" James asked with a shaky voice. Dumbledore could see the young fathers body shaking, from anger or sorrow he could not tell.
"From what I could figure out Charlus scar is giving off the same aura as the killing curse, I am speculating that the killing curse may have in a way reflected off of him back into Lord Voldemort."
"So, he is dead?" James eye had a dark glint as he asked.
"He could be, but I think not." The headmaster hesitantly answered. "I think that he is gone for now, but he will be back."
"He'll be after Charlus then."
Lily's muttered word caused silence fall on the whole group.
"Over my dead body!" James snarled the words and shot to his feet.
Lily stood up; shifting Charlus into a more comfortable position she put a hand on her husband's shoulder and started to guide him to the office door. "Thank you, Professor, we should get going now."
As the office doors swung closed the Headmaster took some lemon drops out of his bowl. "I'm sorry about your daughter." He whispered to the air.
Walking up to the door of the Orphanage an Imperial Praefect knocked with one hand. His other hand was carefully cradling the little girl who was blinking owlishly at him as she slowly woke up. It was not until very early in the morning till the soldiers finished their patrol the Praefect could see starting to streak the morning sky even though the sun not even broken the horizon.
"Can I help you?" An older Imperial woman asked as she opened the door. The woman had dark hair with small streaks of grey in it, the Praefect could also make out wrinkles at the corner of her eyes. The Praefect instantly recognized her as the Matron of the orphanage.
The Matron quickly looked the Praefect up and down, taking in his uniform before her eyes fell on the girl.
The Matron let out a sigh. "Another one? We don't have the money to take care of another child. Our funds are stretched as it is."
"I am sorry ma'am, we found her in the small forest in the Nibenay Valley while on patrol tonight. We were unable to find any signs of life nearby." Exhaustion filled the Praefect voice as the nights patrol caught up to him. "It is tough times and there is nowhere else to take her, I am putting a notice out about where we find her so hopefully, she won't be here long."
The Matron snorted wryly, as she hesitantly took the girl out of the Praefect arms. They both knew that wouldn't probably happen. "So, you don't know the girls name?"
At the shake of the Praefect's head the matron cast the one of the very few spells she knew. A blue glow surrounded the girl.
"It appears that she is a Breton and she is around a year old." She hummed in thought. "That explains the odd clothing. I guess we can call her Amrissa, that sounds sufficiently Breton like."
"Thank you, ma'am." With a small bow of his head the Praefect turned around and walked into the streets away from the orphanage.
Taking one last look into the sky the Matron saw the sun starting to rise from over the city walls. Turning away from the sight she walked back into the orphanage and found the only empty crib in the overfilled orphanage and a blanket to go along with it. Both of which were in poor condition. The Matron laid the one year old gently down into the crib.
"Welcome to the Imperial City Amrissa." She whispered to the girl as she tucked her in. The girl quickly fell asleep not fully realizing how much her life would change from there on out.
