A couple of weeks later, when he was given the all clear to go home, Danny found himself sitting in a deck chair. Looking out at the sun setting, making the water glow like fire, he smiled to himself. The island he had hated so much 10 years ago had become his home.
"I see you started without me." A familiar voice broke him out of his reverie.
Danny turned towards the voice and came face to face with his partner. He grunted slightly then turnd back to watch the sunset. Steve sat down in the other deck chair next t him. Grabbing a botle of beer, he took a sip and then looked in the direction of Danny.
"What are you looking at?" Danny asked, not looking back at him.
"Nothing."
"Nothing?" Then why are you looking at me like that?'
"Can't I look at you?" Steve inquired.
Danny just waved his hand before taking a sip from his bottle. Steve turned to face the view. He sighed deeply. What had happened to Danny had brought back some memories. Painful memories of his father and what had happened to him because of his stubbornness. The same thing that could have happened to Danny if he hadn't kept his word and give the cipher to Wo Fat's wife.
"Were you ever going to tell me?"
This time it was Danny's voice that brought Steve out of his thoughts. Steve turned to face his best friend, his partner of 10 years.
"Tell you what?"
"About what she said." Danny replied, waving his hand.
"About who said what?" Steve countered, trying to feign ignorance.
"That I'm the one person in the world you care about the most."
"Danny,' you've known me for 10 years. Oc course, you're the one person I care about the most."
"So, it's true?"
"Yeah, of course, it's true. Daiyu Mei used you to get to me. She knew that you were my Achilles heel. I thought I had lost you."
"Well, you didn't. I'm right here. And I'll always be here. You can't get rid of me that easily." Danny gave a slight chuckle.
"God, buddy, I hope not. Because you'll always be my Danno."
