Hello people, this is my second fanfiction. I started one together called Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Holding Out For Love which is my intake to how season 17 will start cause I hate the season 16 finale. Whereas this one is my intake as to how Owen will find out and I just have to say I really hate the writer at this moment, how they made Teddy so out of character and hate the way how they made them go through so much and making us believe they are meant to be together and end up doing this to the couple. So hopefully season 17, we will get to see more as to why Teddy is like this and hopefully they will be able to get past it. I know this chapter is a bit boring but I just really want to elaborate on Teddy's feeling with those three characters and I just find it funny how they seem to have a scene with her regarding the snows except for Allison. Please leave a comment and let me know what you guys think.

Broken Pieces

Chapter 1: "He will be a fool to let you go."

It was snowing… thousands or even millions of snows raining down from the grey cloud, Teddy Altman raised her head and all she could feel was the snow hitting her face. Her body gives out a shiver as the cold icy breeze blew in her direction, she wasn't wearing many clothes herself, only a blouse and cardigan as she wasn't prepared to step outside today but inside with everyone rushing around her, the loud noise and the encounter with Claire, it was all just too much, it was just suffocating her.

She was cold, she wasn't going to deny that her body was shaking from the frigid wind and the frostiness of the snows but yet it didn't bother her at all. This coldness was nothing, it was nothing compared to the actual coldness and loneliness in her heart,

Looking away from the sky, she extended her hand and held out her palm. She allowed the snow to fall onto her palm and ironically, she always had loved the snow and it was no secret. Anyone that knows her or at least tries to know her will realise that she always had loved the snow but no one ever knows that it all because of one memory, of one moment and one person…Allison.

"Allison, what are you doing? You will get a cold" she lectured as she stared at the young adventurous woman that was dancing in the snow despite only wearing her blue uniform with a long white lab coat and nothing else. Allison pretended that she didn't hear her question as she only looked back at the blonde that was standing in front of the entrance with her arm folded and with a clear disbelief look.

Giving her a simple shrug on the shoulder, "it's snowing Teddy" Allison exclaimed and Teddy rolled her eyes, "I can see that and what I can see is you getting sick." Sticking her tongue jokingly out at Teddy, "you are boring, you are no fun" Allison wailed playfully as she reached out her hand inviting Teddy to join her.

Allowing a smile to crept onto her face, Teddy shook her head "and no cause I am not going to do silly things and get myself sick." Not willing to accept a no and knowing well of Teddy's personality, Allison pulled a puppy face as she stared at Teddy's eyes, "please" she begged as she extended her hand once more.

That puppy eyes of Allison had always been Teddy's weakness as she looked away purposely, "I am not going to get myself sick" she protested in a weaker voice and the grin on Allison's face widened as she was fully aware that Teddy was going to crave in sooner or later. "Please Theodore Altman."

Teddy looked back at this friend of hers, her best friend and someone that she can never say no to, especially not to that puppy eyes. "Fine, but only for a few seconds and we are going back inside" she stated in a firm voice before stretching out her hand to Allison.

Allison broke into a wide grin as she gripped tightly onto Teddy's hand and pulled her toward the pure snow. Not releasing her grip on Teddy, she raised their hands high up encouraging her to swirl around with the snows raining down on them.

Teddy laughed as she spun around with her hand still interlocked tightly to Allison, she was getting cold but at that moment she didn't mind because as much as she didn't want to admit it, she was happy and Allison was right, she was having fun. Making a full spin, she stopped as she stared into Allison alluring eyes and she was content.

Her life seems to be going on track, she had a job that she loved and she had Allison, there was nothing that she wanted. The two of them didn't say anything as no words were needed at that moment, they both just stared straight at each other in the eye as if right now, it was only just them. Allison's free hand reached out to touch Teddy's cold face as she helped tuck a strap of her blonde hair behind her ear and her fingers slowly lingered onto Teddy's pink moist lip.

At that time, no words were said and no words were required. Teddy suddenly let out a sneeze, a sneeze that broke off their eye contact and Allison chuckled lightly as she dropped her hand away from Teddy's lip and took off her lab coat.

Without a word, she draped it around the blonde with her hand resting on Teddy's shoulder, her hand lingered for a while before she joked with a wide grin, "let's get you back inside. We can't afford to have Doctor Altman sick." A nod was all Teddy could muster as they both walked back inside the hospital, none of them exchanged a single word or mentioned what happened back then. But Teddy couldn't help but felt a sense of warmth despite the environment she was in and she didn't know what it was but only that it certainly wasn't because of an extra lab jacket on her shoulder.

Allison….her best friend, the person that mattered the most to her and seeing back Claire today was enough to surface the past back up to her. And the snow, Allison had always enjoyed the snow and that was enough to make Teddy to also love the snow.

Teddy doesn't understand it herself too, she had always felt that maybe it was a way of God punishing her for betraying Allison, betraying her for loving someone else so maybe that is why whenever there is snow it is never just memories with Allison, there will be Owen too.

Owen… her best friend, someone that was also as broken as she was. She remembers back then during the time they were in Iraq how Owen will always try to look after her and take care of her. She remembers how he tried to create snow in the desert, she remembered the effort that he had put in but failed.

"I'm sorry" Owen unexpectedly whispered as he watched the rest of the team heading back to their own quarter leaving only himself and Teddy behind. Hearing his words but not comprehending why she looked at him quizzingly, "did you just apologise?" He tilted to look at her directly and whispered again in a softer tone, "I know you always loved the snow and I was an idiot to think that it will work" he confessed embarrassingly followed by a chuckle as he turned away, flustered to even look at her. She didn't say a word, he was an idiot but she let out a smile as she knew that he cares, that he cares for her and was willing to go through all this for her. Her smile widened on her face and she nodded her head agreeing, "you're an idiot." Owen was an idiot but at the same time, so was herself, she knew what she was getting herself into and she knew that her feelings for this engaged man were more than just friends.

Gazing at the wide smile that was on her face, Owen didn't mind nor did he care that being called an idiot as seeing her smiling was the only thing that he cared for. He wanted her to be happy, "well how about when we finish our times in here, we will go and have a look at the actual snow" he suggested casually as he looked away from her, afraid to be rejected. Not giving him a direct answer, she only turned to watch him and at this moment she wanted nothing more but to know what he is thinking. Owen was just always so confusing and hard to read, she can never tell as to what is going in his mind. She only softly nodded her head, "I will like that" before looking straight, staring at what was in front of her. Her response was enough to make Owen widen his grin as none of them said anything as they simply only enjoyed being each other's presence.

A sigh slipped out from her lips as she grabbed a handful of her fringe and pulled it backwards. Owen was her best friend, someone that she always confided too and always honest with. They went through and experienced so much together and now they are finally starting their own family together. But it is now that Owen is finally her fiance, that did she realised that she is having more secrets hiding from him. She had never wanted to keep so many secrets from him but the more she seems to hide, the more secrets she is keeping from him, her best friend and fiance.

All she ever wanted was to start a family with Owen but Teddy herself was broken. She is too broken that she doesn't even know whether she can be repaired. She will always be afraid that Owen will leave her, she will always be insecure and believe that she will never be good enough for him. And it was this fear of her that she can't shake off that had pushed her into Tom's embrace.

Teddy watched as the snowball hit right on Tom's arm and she laughed for the first time in these few months as she gazed at Tom feigning in pain wailing and rubbing his injured arm.

Tom, himself wasn't a particular fan of having snowball fights but he knew that this is what she needed. He could clearly see the insecure in her, the doubt and fear that had been consuming her for these few months. He doesn't want to see her like this and it pained her more than anything to see her struggling in pain, he loved this woman and the only thing that he wanted was to see her being happy. Tom grinned as he strolled toward Teddy, his both hands rested on her shoulder as he looked at her puzzled expression.

"Trust me, Owen is anything, he can be an ass, a self-centred and insensitive dickhead, but he is not a fool. He is not a fool to let someone like you go, he is not a fool to not love someone like you" he spoke in a soothing tone as his soft eyes never left her, "he will be a fool to let you go" he whispered in a voice that was filled with pain before he gave her a shoulder a gentle squeeze, "goodnight Teddy" and with that, he placed his hands in his pocket as he walked away, away from her. He didn't want to leave her like that but he knew there wasn't anything he could do, he wasn't Owen. He isn't the one that she wanted and that hurt him the most.

Teddy was speechless as she couldn't find the right word but she only stared at his defeated back as he walked out from her. As opposed to Owen, Tom was always different being with Tom, she felt safe. Being with Tom, she never had to worry about waking up in the morning to an empty bed, she never had the fear that he would leave her for another person. With Tom, everything just seems to be more simple.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket and for the first time, Teddy took the mobile out from her cardigan as she glanced at the caller, it was Owen. She hasn't spoken to Owen since she came back from the conference neither had she even messaged him to let her know that she is back. She knew that she will have to face him eventually but she doesn't know how to. The guilt that is consuming her, that one night that she had the snowball fight with Tom had changed everything, that one night where she had all the fear and doubts had made her run into the arm of Tom and that was the start of their affair.

Teddy released another sigh as she thought back at the mess that she is in right now, she doesn't want to hide it from Owen but whenever she wanted to tell him, she never finds the courage to as she doesn't know how to and mostly she was afraid that he will never look at her the same way again.

Owen glanced at the clock that was hanging on the wall, it was already 8 pm and he knew that she would have arrived back at Seattle around 6 pm so where is she? Why hasn't she come home yet? He grabbed his phone again and there still weren't any calls or messages from her, he dialled her number again but yet the call just went straight to her mailbox.

He was getting worried about her as he paced himself around the kitchen, he knew that she was already back as he had already called Maggie so why hasn't she come home or at least given him a call. Where was she? Did she get involved in an accident? Owen stopped in his track as he heard the front door being unlocked and the jingling sounds of the key. He sauntered straight up to the hallway and he watched as she quietly closed the behind her, "where were you?"

His voice and question caught her in surprise as she looked at him startled, "Owen" she said softly as she placed her keys on the shelf. Taking a step closer toward her, he grabbed her tightly on her arm, "where were you? Your phone was off, I didn't know where you were. I was worried about you."

Looking up at him for the first time for tonight, she could see the concern that was written on his face and it didn't make her feel better, "I-I must have forgotten to turn my phone back on after the conference, I am sorry" she apologised and she meant it.

Owen didn't press any further as he only stared intently at her, he could smelt a faint scent of alcohol lingering around her and he knew that there was more to it but he also knew Teddy. He knew her too well to know that if she doesn't want to say it then no matter how hard he pushes her, he still won't get anything from her.

"Where's Leo and Allison?"

At the mention of their children's name, his gaze softened "they are both sleeping. Do you want me to get them up?" He asked and Teddy shook her head, "if they are sleeping then don't wake them up. I am very tired, I just want to take a bath right now" she confessed as she couldn't bring herself to face Owen or to continue in this conversation. Walking past him, Owen gripped onto her arm, pulling her to stop.

"Teddy" he called and there was a silence between the two of them. Owen knew very well that she had been very distant lately, she just isn't herself but he just couldn't figure out why and it is killing him to know why won't she talk to her? Softly, he gazed at her lovingly before asking gently, "Is everything okay?"

Looking at his eyes that were desperately trying so hard to understand and read her, it only increased the guilt that was consuming her inside. She knows she is hurting him more but she just doesn't know how to tell him, forcing a smile on her face, "I'm okay, I'm just tired" she lied, trying to convince both herself and him.

He didn't say anything but instead, he pulled her into his embrace, wrapping his arms around her, "you know you can tell me anything right, whatever it is. I will be here to listen."

Tears started to form in her eyes as she bit her lip, trying to prevent herself from breaking down as she gave a nod before wrapping her hands back around him and she had wanted nothing more but for everything to be okay.

The sudden cry of Allison was enough for them to break apart, "I will go and get her. Teddy, you had a long day. Go, get a bath and get some rest"

he suggested before gradually releasing his grip on Teddy, letting her go as he made his way toward Allison's room.

Watching his back and watching as he walked further away from her, "Owen" she cried out, stopping him as he looked back at Teddy. She opened her mouth, she wanted to be honest with him, she didn't want to hurt him but words just couldn't form as only stood there speechlessly, staring at the man that she was about to marry.

"I love you Teddy" he suddenly confessed as he smiled lovingly at her and gazing at him, she only responded by a nod before whispering back to him, "I love you too."

Her response was enough for Owen as he grinned widely and continued heading toward the crying Allison, while as soon as Owen was out of sight, Teddy allowed her tears to fall as she covered her mouth with her hand trying to muffle out any noise. Teddy doesn't want to lie to him anymore as she couldn't endure the guilt that was consuming her but at the same time, she couldn't bring herself to tell him as she knew that once she told him, he will leave her and they will never be the same again.
