Inspired by The Fake Redhead's Prompt-'Don't you have a country to run?''My favourite person is in the hospital, the country can wait.''I'm not sure it works like that.''I run the country, so it does.'
Kingsley Shacklebolt shoved the throng of reporters, trying to get into the hospital. 'Out of my way,' he yelled, almost barrelling into a broad shouldered reporter with a camera around his neck. Pushing a few women out of his way who cried out with indignation, he finally found his way into the hospital.
He breathed a sigh of relief when he found Harry Potter and Ron Weasley standing outside a door. Harry's lip was busted and there was four long scratches on both of his arms. Ron's shirt was missing three buttons and a pocket.
'Is she okay?' Kingsley yelled, breathlessly. 'Yeah, she's doing fine,' Ron answered cheerfully just as a loud string of expletives sounded from behind the closed door along with a thud and a crash. 'Like I said, she's doing absolutely fine,' Ron repeated.
Kingsley stared at Ron for a moment and quickly shook his head, 'Forget I asked. Let me in!' 'Umm, I don't think it's a good idea... I know you're the Minister of Magic and all, but I don't think even you could survive going inside,' Harry hesitated. Kingsley scowled, 'That's my woman in there, Potter! I'm going in, don't be daft.' Swinging open the door, he stormed inside, Harry and Ron right behind him.
It was chaos inside. A Healer in white robes stood with his wand outstretched towards the other occupant of the room. The tables were turned over, the potions spilled all over the floor making a large mess. A large jagged crack was visible through the white curtains.
Meanwhile, Hermione stood in the middle of the room with her hands on her hips, outraged. Her hair crackled with both frizz and her magic, a lethal combination. 'I'm not doing this! I've already shed my blood, sweat and tears for you all! No more, and you can't make me!' She screamed at the top of her lungs. The Healer sighed, annoyed, and repeated his request to let him take her blood. It wouldn't hurt to get herself checked out.
Kingsley rushed over to her with a loud, 'Hermione, love, are you okay?' Hermione beamed when she saw Kingsley but then frowned, 'Kingsley, what are you doing here?' Kingsley answered, 'You're here, why wouldn't I be here?' She pointed out, 'Don't you have a country to run?' Kingsley shrugged, 'My favourite person is in the hospital, the country can wait.' 'I don't think it works like that,' Ron butted in. 'I run the country, so it does,' Kingsley scoffed.
Hermione giggled and pulled him into a tight hug. 'Can we get out of here?' She whispered, lowering her eyes, trying to go for a coquettish look. Unfortunately, Kingsley hesitated and said, 'Sorry, love, but...' He turned her around towards the Healer who looked relieved that the Minister wasn't taking her away.
'Absolutely not!' Hermione snapped, trying to escape Kingsley's hold. 'Love, just hold still.. it'll be done in a second,' he soothed her. But Hermione Granger was furious now. She tried to get to her wand but remembered Harry had pocketed it earlier so she wouldn't hurt them again. She snarled, 'Harry James Potter! Give me my wand now!' Harry paled and stumbled back in fear of his best friend, falling onto his backside in his haste. Bending down, Ron grabbed Harry's arm and dragged him towards the wall to get as far away as possible from the pregnant witch.
Kingsley started murmuring soothing words in her ear, telling her how proud he would be of her for allowing the Healer to take her blood, how this was for a good cause, and didn't she want to know their baby was okay, perfectly alright like he should be? Hesitating for just a second, he promised her he would take her straight to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour to buy all the ice cream she desired. This was not something Kingsley had any control over as Hermione did have a tendency to go overboard with her ice cream cravings.
In the end, she relaxed in his arms, placing her head on his chest and closing her eyes. The Healer took the opportunity to swipe a bit of her blood, looking relieved to having finished the terrifying task. Harry and Ron were impressed by how easily Kingsley had managed to calm their best friend down.
'It was a bloody miracle,' Ron would brag in the Leaky Cauldron later. 'The reporters from the Daily were right outside, demanding to be let in and us Aurors had to stop them all! Potter even got hit in the head by someone, can you believe it? And the Minister managed to calm Mione down without losing his cool!' He failed to mention how earlier, Hermione also kneed him in the groin when he'd tried to carry her to the hospital. He also failed to mention how Hermione had scared Harry so much the poor man was still rocking back and forth in his bedroom with Draco Malfoy trying to calm him down. It would have hurt their reputation, after all.
Hermione turned to face Kingsley and asked him, 'Can we get some pickles too? I'm in the mood for pickles and ice cream.' Kingsley silently gagged at the thought but quickly agreed, secretly pocketing Hermione's wand from Harry as they walked out.
The Healer winced as he called out to the departing couple, 'Sir, she has another blood test the day after tomorrow.' Harry and Ron stiffened at his words and looked at each other horrified, while Kingsley quickly wrapped his arms around the petite witch and dragged her away before she could try to harm the Healer.
'Maybe I'm not cut out for this job,' the Healer thought as he watched an irate Pansy Nott storm into the next ward, dragging her whimpering husband after her.
