After finishing the calamity off, things settled back down and Zelda had been rescued. Even though the former champions had been slaughtered, leaving Link and Zelda to the job alone at hand. Link pushed through his PTSD and challenges to save the princess of Hyrule. It was a year after the calamity and Zelda was rebuilding the kingdom to its former glory. The divine beasts stopping in moments here and there. And finally, Zelda offered her former appointed knight to stand by her side to help reform the kingdom. He declined and was allowed free reign of the lands. Exploring and traveling, is what he loved to do most when being allowed this freedom.
Link rode his horse to the castle. A celebration was being held for a one year anniversary of the defeat of Calamity Ganon. He was invited and so many other beings of Hyrule were too. He attended and took the reins and saddle off his horse and left them in a nearby stable. Patting his horse gently and feeding him apples. He turned around and was face to face with someone he grew to like. The zora prince stood there with that toothy grin of his.
"Link! It is great to see you! The celebration was about to start and Princess Zelda asked me to find you. People said to look in the stable, so, here I am!" He said with an upbeat smile. Link smiled at his friend, a true and genuine smile. Then he lifted his hands.
"So they told you I was here? It is nice to see you friend." Link signed to him. Sidon gave him a pat on the back, then looked at the horses in the stables.
"My friend, I had no idea how much you liked horses. Are these all yours?" Sidon asked the young champion. Link softly chuckled to him. An amused smile crossing his face.
"I can only have five. These ones are mine." He signed to Sidon, leading him to the horses he had stationed in the stable. "I take them out each by one every so often. So they all get time with me and outside."
Sidon gazed in amazement, then he seemed to have the most amazing idea. "That is amazing my friend, but I have one question I must ask of you! Even though you have done so much already. And don't worry, I'm sure we will make it in time to the party."
Link watched him then lifted his hands once more to sign. "Of course, what is the question?"
"Can you… teach me how to ride one of these magnificent beings?" Sidon asked, holding Link's hands in his as he saw his friend stare at him in amazement.
Link soon enough gave a fast nod, almost making himself dizzy. "Of course! But why would one want to learn to ride them? You can swim in water and in water these, have a hard time following into."
Sidon smiled with a reassured look. "It sounds like fun! And I would be spending time with my favorite hylian!" The prince zora looked back at the horses, then saw some vacant spots. "Can you also teach me how to catch one? I'm sure to bond with a horse is to catch one yourself!"
Link gave a soft smile and a giggle escaped him. He didn't notice it, but Sidon blushed everytime he even let his voice out. The only time he was caught, he was asked if he was sick. "Then let's go get you a horse. They are gentle beings if you show them respect and great deals of care."
Sidon looked ecstatic, allowing his friend to lead the way. They walked through the grassy field, the castle was in sight. Link crouched down in the grass, Sidon followed his pursuit. "What are we doing?" He looked around, until he saw the horses near the front of them. About 3 to 4 of them, Link placed a hand on his knee. Then signed to his friend.
"We need to be cautious, they can be easily spooked. I took it the hard way. Hoof to the face many times. It hurt." He looked at his friend then told in sign language to follow his lead. He crawled towards the nearest horse after choosing one to grab. Then mounted, the horse tried to buck him off which gave Sidon grave concern for his friend, almost standing up until he saw Link frantically soothe the steed until the horse stopped and stood in place, allowing Link to soothe the neck of the horse.
"Well done!" Sidon exclaimed, watching the other horses run off after the soothing contest with the horse. He smiled to the zora and pointed a hand at the remaining horses from the group. "My turn?"
"Yes. Remember, be silent and calm. Do not spook the horse or get a hoof to the face. Crouch down and creep up. Mount then soothe. Gain respect of the horse." He signed, patting the horse and lightly tapped the sides of the horse to allow it to go forward and away a bit to give Prince Sidon some room.
Sidon listened or rather watched his instructions, and in doing so, he crept after the horses. Lowering himself closely to the ground, due to how tall he was, it was quite difficult. He wandered behind a tan pinto/paint horse and grabbed onto the horse to mount, this horse allowed it to be mounted, only giving a soft kick off and galloped ahead. Sidon patted the steed on the neck gently, soothing it as he saw Link do.
"I did it!" The prince exclaimed as Link clapped his hands in celebration. He gave a thumbs up and Link trotted the steed to him. Then got off, softly patting the horse on the hind to indicate that it can go back. Sidon watched him with confusion.
"Congrats! Let's head back to the stable. I'll take my horse that I have no completely formed bond with yet and show you how to ride and soothe the mount properly. Though, you did great job!" Link signed, then looked at him as if asking for permission to get on. Sidon smiled brightly and helped his friend onto the back of the horse. Strangely, the horse seemed to be able to hold the weight of a zora and a hylian. "This horse must have gentle nature and good strength. Chose well."
"Heh, well I couldn't have done it without you, my dearest friend!" Sidon turned to give his friend a hug. Link was surprised but hugged the zora back. His face felt hot, and when they released from the hug, he was blushing madly from the hug and covered his face with embarrassment. Sidon laughed softly and pulled him in for another hug. "Aw, don't be embarrassed, Link! I hope the hug didn't surprise you too much like this one!" He said as Link shook his head and hugged tightly back. Once the hug was over, the horse neighed and Prince Sidon soothed the mount again. "Now. How do I steer this magnificent creature?"
Link signed and placed his hand on the mane of the horse and gently tugged on it. Tapping the sides softly and felt the horse walk forward. "Tap once, walk. Tap twice, trot. Tap triple, gallop. Another tap for sprint." He let go of the mane and Sidon took it. Tapping the sides twice, the horse started to gallop towards the stable, Link hugged his waist to stay on and stable.
Once they reached the stable, the next part was to register it. Link hopped off the steed and walked up to the counter. Signing to the person, "Prince Sidon wishes to register steed." Link looked back at his friend as Prince Sidon nodded to the hylian running the stable.
"Indeed! I wish to register my magnificent steed to this stable. They are a new friend of mine and I wish to have it get the best of care. Its gentle nature and beautiful judgement gives me a name. Though, Mipha would be a great name to remember my dear late sister. I wish to call it, Sweetie!" Sidon announced as the stable hand nodded.
"That'll cost 20 rupees for a locally made saddle and bridle." He said as Link lifted his hand to Sidon, grabbing rupees out of his own pocket. Sidon snorted in protest.
"I refuse for my dear friend and also the champion to even pay for this! You have already done so much for us! Allow me!" Sidon said, dismounting the horse and walking to the counter. He grabbed his satchel and pulled out the amount of rupees needed. After the registration, he mounted the steed with the saddle and bridle on. Link unboarded his horse, one he called Oats (don't judge me idk what the fudg-a-rooni to name it) out of the stable and mounted it.
"Ready to go?" The hylian champion signed as Sidon gave a certain nod of his head. They both headed off to the castle to show off their new steeds. Though, Sidon did almost fall off the horse a few times due to being a first time rider. So it was expected of so. Link helped him back on everytime he almost fell off.
"Thank you, Link! I know it's a bit embarrassing to see me fall off a steed after you had gracefully trained me to ride this beautiful creature. Then again, I realized I'm going to the party fashionably late with beautiful creatures around me." Sidon slightly blushed with a toothy smile. Link's face was completely red as his horse took the path to the castle that was almost completely rebuilt.
He turned to face the path and trotted on with his horse. Not even signing anything, the boy was too flustered and flattered as it was. Sidon gave a soft laugh and kept up with his friend. They traveled to the party together and had a great time.
