Chapter 1:

"Ok girls, that'll do us for today!" Aubrey proudly shouted, they'd achieved a lot in today's practice, a bunch of misfits finally starting to sound and look like they wouldn't be the laughing stock. She looked at her watch "Chlo, I've gotta get going, you do the cool down and lock up" it was 6:15pm, she was going to be late.

As Aubrey rushed out, she could hear the rest of the girls laughing and joking as they packed up. She craved those moments, time to have fun, laugh and let her hair down. But she knew what was waiting for her was far more important.

That was Holly.

Holly is Aubrey's pride and joy, she smiled as she quickly hurried towards the car to pick up her daughter from nursery. Having Holly at 17 had been tough, her parents reacted badly at first but soon warmed to the idea of having a grandchild so soon. This meant Aubrey gave up her Yale dreams, and settled for Barden, the local university just 10 minutes away, meaning her parents could help with Holly and she could still get her education. As she drove, she thought about how great things were, and how they had come through some very tough times. But now, everything was good. Now at 24, she is captain of the Bella's and in her final year. Something that years ago she could have only dreamed of.

6.35pm Aubrey arrived at the nursery, only a couple of minutes late. Her parents offer to look after Holly when's she's finished school, but Aubrey hates putting the pressure on them, they've given her so much and done so much for her, she doesn't want to feel like a burden to them. "Mummy, mummy, mummy!" Holly called, running towards her as Aubrey came into the building. Her perfect daughter, the spitting image of her, slight with blonde hair and the brightest blue eyes. She hugged Holly, squeezing her hard. On the way home Holly chattered about her day, what she had done and learnt, but all she wanted to know about was how Aubreys Bellas rehearsal had gone. Holly loves to sing and dance, watching her mum up on the stage performing if her favourite thing. When she grows up, Holly wants to be just like her mum.

Aubrey doesn't let her come to any of the practices, only some of the performances. None of the new girls know about Holly, only Chloe. She's always made an effort not to bring Holly to practices, as selfish as it sounds this is her time. She likes that the girls treat her like a college student, not as a teenage mother. And the old Bellas captain made it very clear that children wouldn't be welcome, this was after another girl brought her niece to a practice and ended up causing absolute chaos. It's fair enough though, it is an adult group not a baby sitting service.

As they walked from the car into the house, Aubrey glanced down at her phone, noticing several WhatsApp notifications on the Bellas group chat, all making plans for the evening. Tonight, they were going to have a pizza and movie night with a few bottles of wine. She signed as she opened the door to the apartment on the side of her partners house that her and Holly lived in. There was nothing more that she wanted to do tonight than go and have fun with the Bellas, have a few drinks and forget about her responsibilities for a night. Her parents had Holly a couple of nights a month so she could go out or go to compete with the Bellas, but Aubrey quickly discovered that being hungover the next day with a 6 year old is not enjoyable.

As she watched her daughter take her shoes and coat off, she felt a pang of guilt. Holly was the most perfect little daughter, bright, funny and her little mini me best friend. How could she want anything more.

After having dinner with her parents, Aubrey tucked Holly into bed. She sang softly as her daughters eyes grew heavy and eventually shut into a deep sleep. Smiling, she quietly crept out and shut the door, thinking this was better than any girls night.

Aubrey looked at her phone once more before starting on some assignments, the Bellas chat had gone quiet, they would all be together now with no need to post in the chat; they would be chatting with each other. At times like this, Aubrey felt alone.
