Reality can be whatever I want…

Yes, he had said those words mere months earlier in the face of… what was his name? Spacelord? It didn't matter now. Thanos liked to keep a record of those who gave him particular trouble, but Spacelord was really nothing but a minor inconvenience to him back then. Not anymore, however, for when the goal of wiping out half of humanity had gone according to plan, Spacelord was one of the half that went with it.

Thanos stretched his aching back and looked towards the sun as it beamed down on him and his fields. 'Yes', Thanos thought, 'reality can be whatever I want… THIS is what I want'. Everything he had worked for had led up to this. Despite the gauntlet being broken after the snap preventing him from harnessing the full powers of the reality stone, and the others, reality was still shaping itself around Thanos' will. He looked around, running his hands over the heads of wheat that surrounded him, close to budding for his first harvest. Acres and acres of land spread out around him in all directions, some cultivated and some still waiting for his guiding touch. In the distance his small home sat upon a hill, and Thanos could just make out the glint of his armour now used as a scarecrow to ward off the darting birds from his more treasured vegetation.

This was it; his land, his planet… This was Thanos' end goal. In years, planets around the galaxy would realise that many prominent gardeners, farmers and botanists were killed in the snap. On such a grand scale, trivia like this seems insignificant. However, when all the resources run dry and the universe craves vegetables and fruits of all kinds in the highest quantities and of the highest qualities, they would realise Thanos' true plan. Thanos was to become the best, the most powerful, farmer in existence. He would finally be able to live a peaceful life, dependent only on himself and - in his own way - helping the universe. Until then, until they realised what he had done, he would be alone. He would be who he truly wanted to be.

He would be the Gardener of the Galaxy.

But nothing could have prepared him for the trials he was yet to face…
