This was inspired by miranda cosgrove and her song "about you now" listen to it while reading! ( which I do not own! )I don't any of the things in the story other than the plot! Anyway, enjoy!
Cat's POV
Maybe I'm wrong you decide
should have been strong yet I lied
nobody gets me like you
Couldn't keep hold of you then
how could I know what you meant
There was nothing to compare to
Cat chews on her hair as she prepared for school that morning. It was the Monday after the Cowwow dance and she knew she'd have have some explaining to do to a certain curly haired guitar player. She admits running away after their kiss was not one of her finest moments , but her brain malfunctioned right at that second. What was she supposed to do? Talk to him? As if it was that easy.
Robbie Shapiro is the culprits name otherwise known as her best friend and crush. He's been a permanent resident in her heart since she's met him, but little over a year ago her heart decided to give him a promotion. Which leads to the question, why is it a big deal cat? You got your man where you want him! The issue has always been the same thing, she cared for him so much she'd rather suffer and keep him in her life instead of gambling their friendship away. As cat stands up from her bed, she shakes her head to try to clear up her mind. She quickly glances at Mr Purple sitting on her bed, as if trying to give her courage to speak her heart. Maybe he's right, she reasons, it's time to lay down all my cards on the table or I'll never know how this could end. With a new determination, cat stands up and marches towards school like a soldier on a mission.
As quick as her new found courage came it fled at the sight of the curly haired cutie already waiting for her at her locker. It seems like hours pass by as she stares at him from the entrance of the hall. Maybe I can escape, her inner conscience speaks, if he hasn't spotted us we can make it back home to safety. And at that exact moment hazel meets chocolate. It's as if a fire sparked inside her with just one look from her nerd. This screams danger, her conscience speaks up again, just think how he could hurt us. Cat shakes he head in protest, Robbie would never hurt me intentionally. Just then she feels a warm hand on her forehead, which makes her catch his eyes once more as she finds her cheek ablaze on their own account. Traitors.
"Earth to cat! I asked if you feel alright," Robbie asks her with concern laced in his voice.
"Of course I am you silly, why wouldn't I be," she responds with a nervous giggle as she noticed his hand leave her forehead and reach towards one of her own. It's funny how they've alway locked into place like a puzzle.
"Hey... about Friday-," Robbie starts while she blinks at him trying to get him to lose his train of thought long enough to avoid this confrontation.
"Whatey?"
"...I wanted to talk about the kiss. Cat I'm not sure why you ran away from me, but I feel like I should let you know that I am in love with you and that kiss just proved that there's something special between us. We've been closer recently, more than we have in the past, our dynamic changed as well. I want to know if you felt it too," he ends hesitant to receive a reaction from the redhead. Cat feels like she's paralyzed between excitement and overwhelming fear. All she had to do was take that leap of faith and let him know how she felt and jump into his arms. Instead she found herself denying such feelings, out of fear of the unknown like the pathetic little girl everyone believe she was. The regret is instant. The look on Robbie's face is enough to haunt her for the next few weeks.
"I-I see. I totally respect your decision. Let's just put this behind us then okay?"
With a sigh of relief, she's quick to agree. How could have she known that he meant to leave her behind .
There's a mountain between us
but there's one thing I'm sure of
that I know how I feel about you
Can we bring yesterday back around
Cause I know how I feel about you now
I was dumb, I was wrong
I let you down
but I know how I feel about you now
Days pass by and things get back to normal, just without the young teens. Cat glances at Robbie from across the table as he seems to be laughing at one of Beck's Canada stories. Robbie is only a few feet away from her at all times like lunch or in class yet it seems like he's worlds away. Robbie wasn't ignoring her, that would be easier for her as she could be angry with him for being in the wrong. He treated her just like their other friends, which made her have the urge to throw up the fries she just ate in the girls restroom. Yes, this is what she wanted. For Robbie to always be her friend and their be no rift in their friendship, when did she get used to Robbie's attention that she felt wronged without it. It's irrational, she knows that. There's many things she knows now.
All that it takes one more chance
don't let our last kiss be our last
I'm out of mind just to show you
I know everything changes
I don't care where it takes us
cause I know how I feel about you
Can we bring yesterday back around
cause I know how I feel about you now
I was dumb,I was wrong
I let you down
but I know how I feel about you now
This was the fifth time she felt herself unconsciously touch her lips while thinking of the last kiss she had Robbie in the past week. Just thinking about it made her tummy feel funny and have her cheeks rosy. Then the reality sinks in that that would be their last kiss too. Cat seemed to finally make sense of her feelings for Robbie. She was ridiculously and utterly in love with Robbie Shapiro. She knew that already, yet now she decided she'd rather bite off her own pinky than give up on her nerd. She needs to find a way to let him know of her feelings.
As the days passed by, so did various attempts to catch one guitar players attention. Cat tried to bake cookies for her man, you know what they say a way to a mans heart is through his stomach. It could have worked too, if only he didn't take the hint and thought they were for the whole group of friends. She would have thrown one of the cookies at his head if only he hadn't flashed one of cute smiles that she recognized he did when he was pleased. Humming to herself, she went onto the next gameplay.
On Wednesday she had two seats next to her available for sikowitz's class and they had Robbie Shapiro's name all over it. When Robbie came in, he flashed her another award winning smile as he sat Rex down on the seat closest to Cat and sat himself down next to him. If looks could kill, that puppet would have been used as wood for a bond fire.
On Thursday, she payed Trina five bucks to trade places with her at lunch so she could be next to Robbie that day. As it turned out Robbie left early for a dentist appointment, and cat was scammed out of five dollars.
Friday finally rolled around, so did cat's fire of inspiration. With prome rolling around she decided to ask Robbie to go with her. Just the two of them. Together. Cat smiled down at the flowers and chocolates she bought at a nearby grocery store. She began to giggle at the cliche of it all. Walking in through the door she began looking for her Robbie. She went over to ask tori, but stopped in her tracks as she saw said boy at his locker with another girl. Her heart began to constrict at all the possibilities came to her mind. It seemed her worst fears came as she saw said mystery girl give her man a tin full of cookies. She turned away in a hurry as she watched them hug. She's not allowed to feel sad, she reasons, this was the mess she made. He's not her man, she made sure of that. Her heart breaks regardless as she throws the roses in the trash can.
Not a day pass me by
not a day pass me by
when I don't think about you
And there's no moving on
cause I know you're the one
And I can't be without you
Setting the brush down carefully, cat looks at her reflection. She should be singing and jumping around getting ready for her date. Instead she stared back at a sad girl in a pink feathery strapless gown. It was the day of prome and she was asked by a cutie in her Spanish class. It was awkward as they could only speak in Spanish in that classroom, so it took 15 minutes to comprehend Henry's question with a hesitant "si". She lets out a sad laugh as she remembers the cowow and Robbie's Spanish speaking date had a similar occurrence. She glances at the photograph on her desk with a nostalgic feeling hitting her in the gut. Jade had sneakily taken a picture of her and Robbie at the cowow when they were listening to Andre and tori sing their song. They were grinning like little kids with their hands intertwined, only looking at each other as if they were the only one two people there. Th feeling in her chest seemed to be unbearable, she needed to talk to someone, anyone.
With her phone in hand, she started pacing around her room. The silence in the room was too suffocating, only the ring from her phone was penetrating.
"This better be important or I'll use my brand new scissors on you're dress," came a granddaughter make from an impatient jade. The only sound from the other line was sniffles and hiccups. Jade instantly softened her tone to match the situation.
"What's wrong cat? Did something happen," the raven haired girl asked her friend. "Jade, I messed up!" Cat released of the things bothering her to her friend. From missing Robbie, to her dreaded date tonight. " I don't want to go not without robbie," sobbed the tiny redhead.
"Alright lets skip prome and go bowling with the whole gang. I just texted them and they all agreed."
"But I don't want to ruin your prome," came the sniffles from cat. "Shut up and be ready in ten!," snapped jade as she hung up.
Cat stared out the window on the way to the bowling alley. She texted Henry not so long ago apologizing for not being able to make it due to not feeling well. It wasn't entirely a lie, her felt like it was about to explode out of her chest. She lets out of sigh of relief when they get to their destination, don't get her wrong she loves beck and jade, but being trapped in the car with them being coupley just made her miss him even more. Entering the bowling alley, cat heard the newest pop love song, which made her groan in frustration. Everywhere she went and everything she saw had Robbie in it. She wished Robbie could have joined them too, not because she's jealous. No, never! As they made their way to the lanes, they saw tori and Andre already putting on their shoes. All five of them made a funny sight, all decked out in formal attire to play bowling. She let out a small giggle as she ran to greet her friends. Changing her heels to bowling shoes made a huge difference, and they could glide easier on the floor! She began to twirl to see how much resistance they had, laughing as the skirt of her dress puffs out as she does. She stops suddenly to regain her balance, she spots a familiar figure coming towards the group. Her heart seems to drop into her stomach before coming back trying to beat out of her chest. It's Robbie, dressed up in a sleek grey tux and a pink tie, it matched her dress. Hazel met chocolate once more and it seemed like time stopped. He breaks out into a smile that's matched by one of her own as her cheeks radiate heat. Once Robbie makes it over, Beck and Andre greet him with a bro handshake while Jade and tori give him a hug. Before she knew it, Robbie was in front of her with his hands in his pockets. The others go set up the machine while the teens stand in front of each other. " Hey," Robbie whispers with a slight smile. She looks up from looking at his chest to his eyes and shyly mutters, "hi."
"You look really pretty tonight. I like your dress," replied Robbie as he nervously ran a hand through his curls. "Thank you, you look really handsome yourself," she muttered playing with her fingers. A moment of silence passes through them.
"So...where's your date," Robbie eventually asks looking away from her trying to clear the tension between them. "I stood him up," she finally replied solemnly.
" what happened, did he try something on you? I swear next time I see him , I swear I'll-," Robbie started in a rush but was quickly interrupted.
"There was no point moving on... cause I know you're the one and I can't be without you Robbie," she uttered softly. He stared at the small red head with a look of wonderment as she took his hands into her own, intertwining them together.
" I was dumb. I was wrong, I let you down, but If you could give me another chance to bring yesterday back around... I would let you know how I feel about you now," she declared while staring unwavering at him. Robbie licked his lips as he was about to reply before tori yells at them that it's cat's turn to bowl breaking the spell around them. "Kk," she replies back without turning around and with one last squeeze she releases his hands as she turns to go back to their friends.
Excitement passes through the small group as cat makes a strike. She does a small dance of happiness as she laughs in victory. She turns to sneak a peek robbie only to find out he was already looking at her while being in a conversation with jade and tori. They keep their gaze as Robbie breaks into a heart warming grin of his own, she shyly waves at him, for it to be returned with a small wink making them break into fits of laughter at their own silliness.
Can we bring yesterday back around
Cause I know how I fell about you now
I was dumb
I was wrong, I let you down
But I know how I feel about you now
Can we bring yesterday back around
Cause I know how I fell about you now
I was dumb
I was wrong, I let you down
But I know how I feel about you now
Yeah I know how I feel about you now
The song in the bowling alley changes to a familiar Taylor swift song that cat never shuts up about "everything has changed". It sounds louder than any of the songs they played that night, cat turns over to see jade from the DJ booth giving her a wink. Cats eyebrows scrunch in confusion , suddenly she feels someone turn her around. Hazel met chocolate once more. He reached for her arms to wrap them around his neck while he wraps his own around her waist. They began to sway to the soft music, never parting their gazes.
"About Friday," the young man starts off looking expectantly at her. Confusion washes over her features as she mumbles "what?"
A small chuckles leaves his lips as his features soften, "I'm bringing yesterday back around, or a month ago to be precise." He spins her around once before bringing her back into his arms . Realization dawns in her as she starts to get teary eyed. His hold tightens on her as he takes a shuddering breath, "cat, when we kissed it reaffirmed my feelings for you. I'm in love with you Caterina Valentine, and I want to know if you feel it too..." his speech was interrupted by her lips meeting his in a passionate kiss. All her fears seemed to melt away as she did into him. She softly pulls away and leans into his strong chest. He wraps his arms around her protectively, to shield her away from any harm. "Robbie I'm so in love with you, I'm sorry it took so long for me to say it. There was never a day where I didn't think about you," she confessed. "I want to be with you,"she looks up at him through her lashes to see his genuine smile that she hasn't seen since the accident. While he doesn't reply, he didn't need too cat already knew his response.
He reaches for her hand while intertwining their fingers, she can't help but to feel that's how their meant to be. Together.
