Author's Note: Ok I had this idea a while back. What would it be like if Yubel had been reincarnated like Jaden with no memory of a past life? I figured I'd give it a try. Ideally I'd like to make this story a sort of rise, fall, and redemption kind of thing, but let's just see how it goes. Just a heads up Yubel isn't going to be summoning her own card in any duels at least at the start. The deck she'll be using instead may seem strange, but I promise there will be a good reason for it to be revealed in later chapters. So I guess with that out of the way I hope you enjoy the first chapter. Feel free to leave a review at the end.

In retrospect Yubel should have known this would happen to her. She should have known she'd be running late to her entrance exam for Seto Kaiba's Duel Academy. Why? Well the one and only reason would be because of her best, and only friend Jaden Yuki. He had of course slept in, and Yubel had been the only poor soul left to get him up since both his parents were already at work. She was now running or rather being dragged by said friend at an almost superhuman pace down the streets of Domino city as they tried to make up the time.
She probably should have left him, and gone to the exams on her own, but Yubel could never do that. They had been friends with one another ever since Yubel had transferred to Jaden's elementary school under hard circumstances. The only reason Yubel had even applied to Duel Academy was because Jaden had. If he made it in she wouldn't be able to see him everyday like she could in the past. She didn't want to lose him. No he had come to mean too much to her. More than Jaden was even aware himself.
"Jaden... slow down, and let go of me," she yelled at him, "You're going to run into someone."
Jaden just sped up not breaking a stride much to Yubel's annoyance. "Yubel there's no time for that, we're going to be late." Jaden yelled back.
Yubel just shook her head, and forcefully yanked her hand out of his grip causing him to come to a halt. "We wouldn't be late if someone had set an alarm clock. Besides we should be working smarter not harder. Let's cut through the park it'll be faster." Yubel pointed across the street to the park entrance.
"Ok works for me," Jaden grabbed Yubel's hand, and led her across the road.
Much to Yubel's dismay Jaden hadn't thought to use the crosswalk, so they were now weaving in, and out of traffic. Yubel held onto Jaden's hand for dear life as they received honks, and swears from the passing drivers. By some miracle they made it across alive, and were now running through the park hand in hand.
"Yubel I can see the Kaiba Dome. We're almost there!" Jaden pointed as it came into view.
Unfortunately they were both distracted not looking where they were going and they crashed into someone knocking all three of them to the ground. It took a second for Yubel to regain her bearings. As soon as the world stopped spinning she found herself lying on top of Jaden tightly wrapped in his arms with their faces just inches apart.
"Is this a dream?" Yubel whispered barely audible, and felt a rush of blood come to her face at the realization of what she had just said.
Jaden just looked at her confused. "Yubel why would this be a dream? If anything it's a nightmare, we're late to the entrance exams!"
It took every bit of Yubel's self-control not to slap him after hearing him say that. She managed to refrain somehow. It was hard, but deep down she knew she couldn't fault Jaden for his ignorance; he lived, and breathed dueling. She just hoped someday there'd be room in his heart for more than just dueling, and maybe he'd let her in more than he already had. It seemed unlikely to her, but that didn't stop her from hoping. Yubel had almost gotten her temper back under control, but then she remembered how Jaden had pulled her across the open road during traffic. All self control was lost as her rage boiled over. She grabbed Jaden by the front of his jacket, and began shaking him with all her might.
Her voice filled with fury she yelled at him, "Jaden Yuki if you ever pull a stunt like you did back there with me again I will personally be responsible for your death! Do I make myself clear?"
Jaden tried to speak in his defense, but Yubel cut him off as soon as his mouth opened. "No, don't speak, you are already in the dog house mister." She gave him another shake.
Jaden unditered tried again to argue his case. Which did nothing but add fuel to an already raging fire. In anger Yubel began listing off every boneheaded decision Jaden had ever made. It was a long list... Meanwhile the person they had run into had already gotten himself up, and brushed the dust off. He watched the two teens as they bickered. He instantly took note of the duel disks they both wore, and smiled to himself. He reached down into his own deck case, and pulled out two cards.
"Excuse me I hate to interrupt you two," he walked over to them, and helped them both up after their arguing had cooled down, "I couldn't help overhear. You're both duelists. Here take these. I just have a feeling they belong to you."
He handed them each a card before walking past them continuing on with his day. It was at that moment Yubel finally registered his appearance. He wore normal enough looking clothes, but what really stood out was his spiky black, and purple hair with blonde highlights. Her heart almost stopped at the realization of who they had crashed into.
'Great this day just keeps getting better and better. First we're running late, and now we almost kill the Kill the King of Games while he's on a leisure stroll in the park. Is this the universe hating on me? What's next am I going to grow a third eye, and a pair of wings?' She thought sarcastically to herself.
She was going to speak up in hopes of salvaging their first impression to the King of Games, but Jaden beat her to it. "Thank you sir, We'll make you proud," he called out, giving a bow. He hadn't made the connection on who it was. Probably for the best it wouldn't do him any good if he began to wigout before his exam.
The King of Games didn't look back. Instead he just gave him a thumbs up in response as he continued to walk away. Yubel sighed, so much for salvaging a good first impression. They both looked down at their new cards. Jaden was grinning as he placed his in his deck while Yubel was caught off guard by what card she had just received. She just continued to stare at her card mesmerized. Yubel probably would have been staring at that card all day if Jaden's mind had not brought the reality of their situation back to light.
"Uh oh. Yubel the exam let's go." Jaden said, gaining Yubel's attention he started to run with her following just behind back in route to the Kaibadome. "I can't be the next King of Games if I'm late to the games!" He yelled for the world to hear.
They made it to the registration just as it was about to close thanks all in part to Jaden free climbing up an almost vertical incline. Yubel's threat from earlier had already been forgotten which irked her a lot. She had taken the stairs not wanting to risk hurting herself. They had walked into the Kaiba Dome beside one another with Jaden covered in dirt, and leaves in his hair. When Yubel had tried to help him brush off he had gently removed her hands from his hair much to her disappointment.
"Yubel thank you, but I can do this," Jaden ran a hand through his brown hair, and after he shook his head like a dog trying to get the dirt out.
Yubel had simply shaken her head at this gesture before responding snidely, "Oh Jaden I'm sorry for trying to help… You are right, you can do that all by yourself. It's not like you look like someone who's been sleeping in a ditch or rolled around in the mud." She couldn't hold herself back as she chuckled.
"That's what I'm saying Yubel minus the whole ditch thing. I'm glad you see it my way." He shot back at her with one of his cheesy smiles.
Yubel just shook her head, "Jaden you're such a goofball honestly." They approached the spectators area, so they could watch the other duels while they waited.
"Hey Yubel," Jaden asked, "which deck were you thinking of using?"
Yubel thought about the card she had gotten earlier today; it would fit in with her Spellcaster deck, but not without changing it up a bit first. She didn't have the time or the cards to do that at the moment. She'd have to use her other deck.
"I'll be using Hanzo's deck." She replied referring to one of the monster's in it.
"Sweet no there's no way you can lose," Jaden said ecstatically.
Yubel just shrugged. "You never know Jaden. Fate might have other plans."
"Stop being humble Yubel, you know this game inside and out, maybe better than me." Jaden spoke honestly to her.
Yubel blushed at his praise. 'Man he has no idea what he does to me.' Yubel smiled at the thought. "Thank you Jaden. You always brighten my day."
"No problem Yubel, but don't forget as your rival I need to keep pushing till I surpass your dueling skills." He flashed her another smile more genuine than the last.
Yubel couldn't help but smile as well. "I look forward to that day Jaden, but as you said we're not just friends, but rivals as well. Just make sure you get your game on, because I'll never take it easy on you." She gave him a lighthearted punch in the shoulder.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." He agreed with her. "You, and I will pave our own path without fate, destiny, or whatever you're going to call it leading us... Man I can't wait to throw down." Jaden could barely contain his excitement, it wasn't long now. Soon they'd be students at duel academy. That was unless someone else got his way.
Well that's the first chapter. Feel free to leave a review, and guess what card Yubel got from Yugi. I'm interested to hear what other people think it is.
