When Ahsoka dreamed, she dreamed of the past. She couldn't help herself. When she looked in a mirror, her long montrals only served to remind her that she was getting old. She wasn't on her deathbed, not yet anyway, but for some reason, Ahsoka only now realized that she was over 70 years old. She laughed when she saw how old she was in the mirror. Rex once told her she had gotten old and by that time, she was only in her '30s. "Had to happen sometime", she said to herself.
She often centred herself by meditating, but she was presented with memories dating back to the Clone Wars. When she was much younger "And more rambunctious", she often added to herself. She often dwelled more on her youth than she did on her memories of life under the Empire. She found it morbidly ironic that she found life in the midst of a galactic war to be her happier days. She smiled as she saw the faces of Rex, Obi Wan, Plo Koon and Anakin. Ahsoka found it difficult to see his face, knowing what she knew. She abhorred whenever she remembered that he (or more appropriately, Darth Vader) tried to kill her on Malachor. That wasn't Anakin. That was… whatever the Emperor turned Anakin into.
It was when her memories automatically showed her the day she became Anakin's Padawan that it hit her. It was the anniversary of when she became Anakin's Padawan. That was why she couldn't get the memories of the war out of her mind. Anakin couldn't stand her at first. Thought she was a nuisance. That was until she proved herself to him, when she was moping after destroying that shield generator.
Ahsoka barely used her lightsabers anymore. She had retired those things. She had settled on Raada. The planet's tough times didn't end when the Empire did. They continued through the farce that the galaxy called 'the New Republic' and the First Order even had a base here. That base still existed, but the First Order didn't. That died over the skies of Exegol.
Speaking of Exegol, Ahsoka wondered what would happen to Force-sensitives in the galaxy. Rey didn't seem to be in a hurry to rebuild the Jedi Order, at least not yet. Ahsoka, though she joined with the voices of the past to encourage her to defeat Palpatine, didn't believe she was ready for such a task. The galaxy hadn't even found a replacement for the New Republic yet. There was talk of a 'Galactic Union' or some such thing, but either way, the galaxy was in a precipice, even with the First Order gone. Exegol was five years before. She wondered how much the galaxy had deteriorated within that time.
She was washing her dishes from her breakfast when there was a knock on the door. Ahsoka opened it with the Force. The closest thing Raada had to a leader, a man named Saul, walked through the door. Saul was one of the refugees that Ahsoka and the rebellion had saved during the Empire's early days. In gratitude, Saul allowed Ahsoka her own plot of land to do with what she wished.
"Am I interrupting anything?" Saul asked, knowing Ahsoka's routine by heart. Ahsoka shook her head. "Please, come in", she said. Saul did so, walking into the small homestead. "You haven't been seen at the tavern for a while. Is everything all right?" On Raada, 'a while' translated to about two weeks. That was how long the cobwebs from the Clone Wars had been on Ahsoka's mind and she didn't feel comfortable going to the tavern with those memories in her head. "Ghosts from the past", she simply said. Saul nodded in understanding.
Saul looked around the homestead. It was small with the kitchen being the biggest room in the building. In the corner was a news-droid babbling about some irrelevant news.
"I know I'm not supposed to pry, but when I look at this place, I find it hard to believe a Jedi…",
"Former Jedi", Ahsoka corrected. That was one memory that she wished she could forget.
"Former Jedi lives out here. You don't draw much attention to yourself",
"My fighting days are over. I just want to grow old and let a new generation take my place as the saviours of the galaxy", Ahsoka said. She couldn't believe she was saying these things. But given the life she had lived, the Clone Wars, the Empire, etc, she felt like she was entitled to some peace. Her younger self would belittle her for sleeping while the galaxy danced around her. But her younger self died with the rest of the Jedi Order during Order 66.
"Fair enough. Believe me, I think you're more entitled to peace than anyone", Saul said. "What do you want, Saul?" she asked, out of some frustration.
"Well, I don't want to drag you out of retirement, but Raada has a problem",
"What kind of problem?" Ahsoka asked. "There was a woman who attended the tavern. I don't know her name, but apparently, she was a nightmare. What's worse is that she had a 14 year old kid with her. The kid practically begged outside of the tavern while the woman drank herself stupid. Then she would take the kid home, beat him and then use the money to repeat the cycle",
Ahsoka listened carefully. She was around that age when she became Anakin's apprentice. She felt sympathy for the kid already.
Saul continued. "Well, it sounds like the kid had a secret not even that drunk bitch knew about. Last night, there was a explosion at their homestead. The woman was killed instantly, but the kid survived",
"I don't like where this is going…", Ahsoka said aloud. Her stomach churned as she predicted what Saul was going to say. "My experience with the Force is sketchy, but correct me if I'm wrong, but when Jedi suffer pent up rage, it's like a shockwave going off, right?"
"It's not just Jedi. Any untrained Force-sensitive with enough… encouragement can cause a ship to violently decompress. I've been angry, but never that angry. What makes you think this kid has the Force?"
"Well, the patrons say the woman called her son a 'freak' for 'making my bottles float' or some stuff like that. not just that, but we couldn't find any explosives at the homestead. It was like a bomb was dropped on it",
Ahsoka nodded. "What do you want me to do about it?" she asked. "We have the kid in custody, but to be perfectly honest, we have no idea what to do with him. Raada is a colony world. We have no prisons and we're certainly not equipped to deal with someone of that power. You have experience with the Force so…",
Ahsoka knew what Saul was going to say. "You want me to train him. Saul, I have no experience with teaching, aside from chaperoning a Gathering. I also have no experience with dealing with child abuse",
"I know, I know, but Ahsoka, please. Help us out here. There are some people who think we should execute him", Saul said, practically begging. Ahsoka was alarmed by that last part. She closed her eyes and dwelled on it for a moment.
"I'm probably going to regret this. Take me to him",
