Chapter 1: Jason

It's crazy to think about how much we've gone through, and how there's worse coming up. Life isn't getting easy any time soon, but we can try.

"-Okay-, so- what-should- we- do?" I speak in short gasps. My forehead feels hot at the touch, and my head is throbbing, the worst pain gone.

"Jason, I really don't want to do anything with you sick right now. I think we should go to Mel, Merlin the Wizard's son. He has many quick-healing medicines that may help you. I've had to go there because of a head injury."

I want to protest, to say,'No! There's no time! It's okay! I'M okay!', but I know the truth. I can't walk another step. I need medical attention.

"Come on. I know exactly where-" Auntie pauses and squeaks,"The guards! They're coming! Hide! QUICK!"

Everything was so sudden. I dove for cover in the fireplace, hanging by my raw, dirty fingernails that were quietly screeching on the hard, hot, brick. Remnants of charcoal dust fell on my face. Beads of sweat drip along the bridge of my nose. And the last I saw of JJ and the statues, they were climbing like a cat up the curtain to the very high ceiling, hiding in the domes, probably.

Just like JJ predicted, two people draped in capes and dressed in armor, that went,'clank clank'. They come in, looking official and snobby, with their noses held up high, looking around and-no!

They're poking around, but luckily they don't look up in the fireplace, nor up at the ceiling.

I sigh, but it turns out the guards have bionic hearing.

"What was that?" one of the guards asked the other." Sounded like a person."

Crap. This is not good.
