Chapter 1

Three Years Later, Washington D.C. (June)

Aaron watched as his kids ran around the currently empty area and smiled to himself. It had been a very long road in getting here but he had somehow managed to keep doing his duties as V.P, run for Democratic presential nomination and be a husband and father.

"President Aaron Shore," Emily smiled as she took her husband's hand, her other hand placed her large abdomen, "I have to say I'm liking it more and more all the time."

Aaron looked at his wife and gave her a quick kiss, "I haven't even officially accepted the democratic nomination yet," He reminded her, "But I do think First Lady Emily Rhodes-Shore sounds beautiful."

"Mommy! Daddy!" Three-year-old River ran up to her parents and immediately kissed Emily's swollen abdomen, "Hi baby brother."

"I think I'm going to start getting them ready for the speech in a few hours. If that' alright of course. Secret Service told me they needed to be ready an hour before the event began to go over where was going to happen."

"Yeah," Aaron confirmed, "You two behave alright?" He looked at the twins, "Listen to Miss Jenna and to everyone helping you get ready and behave."

"Yes Sir," Alexander stood at attention and nodded. His current favourite game was playing 'President' with his father's Secret Service Guards. The game basically entailed him doing everything the guards did and said.

Aaron and Emily watched Jenna lead the kids away, Alexander happily running ahead and walking with the Secret Service guards assigned to him and his sister. Once they were out of sight Aaron turned to Emily, "You know I'd much rather you stay in bed tonight" She was only int week away from her due date

"I'm fine Aaron," Emily confirmed, "We need to show America how strong of a family we are. You know just as well as I do, I need to be by your side."

"if you feel any pain at all you tell me right away, or- "

Emily kissed him to stop him from talking. "I promise."

"Mr. Vice President, Mrs. Shore," One of Seth's Interns approached them rather nervously, "Here is the…the…" He stumbled on his words as he tried to remember what his boss had told him to do. He'd never had any direct contact with the Vice President before.

"I don't know what Seth's been telling you, but I promise I don't bite," Aaron tried to break the tension. He knew what the young man was going through as he had interned at the White House himself, what seemed like a lifetime ago, "Is this my final speech for tonight? He asked pointing to the folder the young man no older than nineteen was holding.

"Oh yes Sir," The intern sheepishly handed over the folder.

"Thank you- "

"Vince. My names Vince Sir," Hunter corrected his original statement.

"Well Vince," Aaron looked at the young man, "How would you like to stay here and help me practice the speech. I'm sure Seth will understand. I'll call him," Aaron's head Secret Service Guard handed him over his cell phone.

Hunter's mouth went wide as he tried to find the words he wanted to say. He felt as though his brain and mouth weren't working together luckily by the time the Vice President returned from making his phone call he'd somewhat returned to normal, "Yes, thank you Sir, that would be an honour."

"You've earned it. I've heard how hard you've been working and how much help you've been to Seth. If 'm told correctly you also played with my children last week."

"Yes, they're nanny- "

"I'm not mad," Aaron reassured him, "I'm very grateful. You're all they'd talk about when we video conferenced that night.

Vince smiled slightly, "Thank you Sir."

Aaron spent the next hour practising how he wanted to portray his speech and what tones of voices to use when. He made notes to himself as he tried to memorize most of it, he was, as always, very glad he'd have the teleprompter to help if he needed it.

"Mr. Vince!" Alexander ran onto the state with River, now both dressed in their outfits for the night, "Do you work for Daddy now?" He asked hopefully.

"Uh," Emily laughed a little at her son's "I don't think Uncle Seth would like that very much. Right now, Mr. Vince is just helping Daddy with his speech," Emily explained, she felt a twinge of pain in her back but ignored it.

"Mommy we all match!" River smiled excitedly as she saw that her parents her brother and her were all wearing blue. "Can I say hi to America tonight?" She wondered, she always wanted to talk during any event Aaron went to. The bigger the stage the more she wanted to speak. She loved America and America and the media loved her.

"Sorry sweetie, tonight's really important so you need to listen alright. Please don't try to talk into the microphone.

"Did America say you could be President?" Alexander asked.

"The Democratic party said I could be President," Aaron corrected, "The Republican party has selected someone else. Now there will be more traveling and speeches until an election in November."

Three hours later Emily stood backstage with River and Alexander as they listned to Aaron finish his speech. Any minute now he'd invite her and the children on stage. She knew that if she could just get through that then she could go to the hospital. As she was pretty sure she was in labour.

"Mrs. Shore are you alright? A Secret Service Agent asked. For the last twenty minutes he'd been observing her, and he could see something was wrong.

"I- "Emily stopped as she felt the worst contraction yet. Just then Aaron invited her and the children onto the stage. She gritted her teeth and forced herself to smile. She took both the children by the hand and walked onto the stage with them. River was happily waving and blowing kisses and Alexander was shyly waving. As the audience stood up and cheered, she began to get dizzy, the last thing she remembered was Aaron shouting her name.
