kiku looked on over to the dutchman standing still in front of him. abel held a small envelope towards him. he nudged it forward, as if telling the other to just take it.
"abel-san?" the japanese nation took the envelope in his hands, still taken aback by the sudden action done by the other.
"honda, i- just read it." the male firmly said, his lips turning into a slight frown. he was looking intently into kiku's eyes. he seemed like he was preparing for this moment his entire life and just decided, "fuck it, i'm going to do this" earlier than he was supposed to.
kiku looked right back at him. "abel-san, if you have something to say, you could just say it now." he told him, a bit of firmness in his tone. "but, you don't have to if you don't want to, mister netherlands!" he quickly added, worried that he was going to upset the other. abel and him had been friends for a lot of years now, so this was a bit unexpected. what could the letter be about? maybe a party? america had always given letters to kiku just to invite him to a party.
once kiku placed the envelope close to his chest, the dutchman only walked away— his eyes looking sideways as if he tried to not look back at the japanese male. it was weird how the dutch nation looked almost.. shy? that seemed absurd as kiku knew abel as someone who was very blunt and direct.
he lifted the top part of the envelope gently, worried that he would ruin the small tulip sticker placed delicately on it to keep it from opening. he thought for a moment, "what could be in this letter?" he mumbled to himself.
a business letter? england had sent him a few business letters once when he was sick. no, netherlands was very blunt and direct. if he had wanted to talk about business with kiku, he would say it right to his face. and plus, how could he be flustered about some business letter.
could it be a 'thank you' letter? china always sent him some when they would hang out sometimes and he would buy a thank you card for him. china always enjoyed the trips they would go on together. no, it couldn't have been a thank you letter. the letter seemed like something much more important than a thank you letter. and netherlands wasn't the type of person to send letters just for a simple thank you.
then, it hit him. a.. love letter? kiku reddened at the thought. france had told him about love letters and how people would send letters to those they loved. the french nation would talk to him about the amount of love letters he used to send to his beloved.
kiku finally decided to open it and see what was awaiting him. whether it was a love letter or not didn't matter to him. this was a letter written by netherlands and it must be important! actually, it being a love letter did matter to kiku. if netherlands did love him, then..
the nation pulled the folded piece of paper and unfolded it carefully. the inside read:
You see I love you, love
you, but it's not to be,
the light is round you, you are
quite simply what you are.
Yes, I love you, love,
I love you so utterly,
Just how much, I'm dying to say -
But I simply can't find a way"
the japanese male tucked the poem back in it's envelope, his cheeks painted with light pink. after reading it, kiku walked back to his home— his hands keeping the envelope close to his chest.

"mister netherlands! there is a letter adressed to you from kiku honda!" the messenger called out to the dutch male standing among the pretty tulip fields. he was picking out a few tulips to use for a bouquet. he looked at the direction of the messenger, his eyes lit up as soon as he heard it was from kiku. "alright, don't shout and give it to me."
the messenger gave him the letter and stood there waiting for an order or something. the dutch male only dismissed him as he opened the small envelope. he smiled as he read the letter carefully.
" Dear Netherlands,
I have read your poem several times. It is a wonderful poem and I would like to thank you for being able to express your feelings through such a beautiful poem. I have thought about it a lot of times and I have decided to accept your feelings of love and affection. Let's meet up and have some tea next week.
Sincerely Yours,
Kiku Honda "
