Rey sat in the pilot's seat of the Falcon staring off into the bright colors as the Corellian freighter traveled through lightspeed. So much had happened in the last few days and this was honestly the first time Rey was able to sit down and process everything. The empire was defeated, Palpatine couldn't arise again, the final order and all their ships had been destroyed. They had won! But there was also so much they had lost. Leia, Luke, Han, so many good fighters, pilots, and people that had fought for years to see the galaxy free. They never got to. But, what they fought for was complete. The galaxy was free. There was one loss that she didn't know how to or, if she was honest with herself, really wanted to process yet. She just couldn't believe he was gone. He had saved her but it had cost him everything. The beeping of the Falcon pulled her out of her trance and signaled the arrival at her destination. She wiped the single tear out of the edge of her eye that just barely started to run down her cheek. Reaching over the controls, she started to curse herself for telling Chewie she could handle this short flight without a co-pilot. She'd taken Poe up on his offer of letting BB-8 go with her. But this was something she had to do on her own. Pulling the lever, the Falcon dropped out of hyperspace in front of a tanned planet. She accelerated into the planet's atmosphere. She was trying to get the navigation straight so she wouldn't get lost in this desert that reminded her so much of Jakku. She flew over a large sandcrawler but, otherwise the desert was empty. Beeping sounded from the navigation control showing her she was almost there. Looking out the Falcon's front view point and saw a round dome with metal towers all around it rising up out of the sands of Tatooine. Not a soul was present. The sands went on to the horizon as the two suns were close to rising. Rey landed the Falcon and extended the ramp. BB-8 beeped happily and started to roll after Rey as she left the cockpit. "BB-8, can I just have a minute. I promise I'll be fine. Just a minute." BB-8 reluctantly beeped but let Rey exit the Falcon alone. Rey walked over to the homestead and slid down the sand that had accumulated in the many years the place had been abandoned. Walking through the corridors of the simple homestead felt strange. Luke had lived here. Grown up here. His parents had visited here long ago. But, no one had been here for years. Sand had covered most everything here. But there were still memories here and Rey could feel them, see them in her mind. She could see Luke sitting at the table asking his aunt and uncle if he could join the Academy. She saw Luke's father and mother sitting at the same table discussing Anakin's mother who was missing. So many memories of a family she had grown to care for. She left the homestead and walked outside. Taking Luke's lightsaber that he had wielded and his father before him had wielded and even Ben had wielded it, she layed it beside Leia's lightsaber. Covering both sabers, she used the force, lowering them both deep into the sands. Grabbing her lightsaber that she had constructed and igniting it, she admired the gold blade until a voice made her look up. "There's been no one for so long." The voice came from an elderly woman standing in front of her, pulling an animal along with her. "Who are you?" Rey looked at the woman and spoke. "I'm Rey." This didn't satisfy the old woman. "Rey who?" Rey looked at the old woman for a moment. Then she felt it. Looking over to her right, two people formed next to her. She knew they weren't really there. She knew they were just in her mind, through the force. Luke and Leia stood there, smiling at her. Then another person seemed to come from the desert haze. She didn't recognize the person at first but, then she realized it was a young Anakin Skywalker. He too smiled, nodding at Rey. Her heart sank as she looked at the three Skywalkers. She was glad to see them of course but, she had hoped another had been with them. She smiled at the three Skywalkers again and started to turn back to the woman when she felt someone take her hand. Her heart jumped in her chest as she looked to her left. Standing beside her in the glowing haze of the desert morning was Ben Solo. He smiled at her and squeezed her hand a little tighter. The force was bright and glowing in her and for the first time in her life, she didn't feel alone at all. Even though at the moment it was just her and the old woman as far as the eye could see. Rey looked back at the woman and squeezed Ben's hand. "Rey Skywalker." Ben's hand still in her own and BB-8 right beside her, they walked to face the twin suns breaking through the horizon to shine light on a new day. The galaxy was free, Rey was at peace, and as she laid her head on Ben's shoulder, one thing ran through her mind. She had found her family. At last, she was home.
