"What the freaking duat is that thing?!"
Avis was bent double, clutching her arm. The creature, whatever it was, circled us, swinging its scorpion tail angrily. It wasn't an Egyptian monster. It was a massive, humanoid scorpion with a line of scarily sharp teeth. It kept chanting the same four lines in an ancient, probably dead, language.
"Eli, don't let it touch you!"
I dodged a strike, it missing me by inches. Bringing down my staff, I pounded the creature over the head. It hissed a curse sounding phrase. I went to hit it again but was struck by a flailing claw. My chest ached as I hit a lamppost.
"What are you?"
It turned on me, hissing English now, "My kind once died. We now live. Now you shall die, as penance. "
I gripped my lotus headed staff, "What do you mean 'was dead'? "
The creature charged. It swung a massive claw, which sliced right threw the lamppost above my head. Avis attempted to help, but was debilitated by the pain. She fell on her knees.
"Well... Mr Scorpion butt, but why-"
It swung, and missed, again.
"Kill us?"
A smile like snarl crept across it's face, "Son of the sun cow, in penance for our hiding. "
"Our-? "
"Great Mesopotamia and it's empire. Now DIE! "
