Miami was unusually cold that weekend. March tends to drop the weather a couple degrees, but never really to the point where I had to wear my heavy pink sweater with the grey wool sleeves. I bought it more for the looks of it rather than the practical use. With daylight savings time already kicking in, it seemed more like three in the afternoon rather than six. My stomach on the other hand was making it loud and clear it was passed my usual lunch time as it growled demanding to be fed. Crowded in my friends' charger, my four friends and I made our way to Denny's for our usual Saturday 'cheat day'. We weren't exactly the healthiest people in the world but we were trying to at least get into healthier eating habits which meant one day a week we could splurge on whatever we desired that day. Being the only girl in the group I tended to always feel protected when we were out, like I had four older brothers looking out for me even though one was two years younger. Body wise I'm not the most beautiful in the world, in fact at the right angles I was stunning but any other time I was just an ordinary girl. I was 5'6 with long black hair and slightly muscular from meaning a flat stomach but my legs were toned and my arms had a slight hint of muscle definition but I was still extremely feminine. Walking into the Denny's you could already tell there was going to be a slight wait as almost all the booths were full. Just as I was getting depressed that I may have to wait even longer for some food the smiling waitress grabbed some menus and asked for us to follow her to our booth. To left was a huge open space filled with both tables and booths while the left side where we were to be sat was a small aisle with booths on both sides. We walked to the back and sat in the last booth, walking past my Alphas' Third's Son Andrew and his friend Jared, a lower ranked wolf in the pack. They both gave a slight bow of theirs heads to me as I walked past and smiled at them. Being the Alpha' Daughter comes with power and respect such as this. Facing towards the front Micah, the youngest at 19, took the seat closest to the wall while Jaime the appointed Dad of the group sat next to him. There was a small opening for the staff to go in and out of the kitchen so on the other side there were chairs instead of the usually booth so I sat next to Jaime at the edge closest to the aisle. David the Gentle Giant, the name given to him due to his large stature and friendly nature sat in the wooden chair across from Micah. Next to him sat the nicest looking guy in the group, but I guess I would be biased since I was technically in love with him. Rafael, or Rafa as we called him, was 23 and stood at 5'11 with slightly tanned skin, and eyes brown as chocolate sundaes. His hair was black that was cropped short on the sides but held some length in the middle which he liked to occasionally lift up with gel. He was lean with just enough muscle to be seen out from under his tight-fitting black shirt, slim fit black adidas sweat pants and black adidas Ultra-Boosts. He may have been dressed in all black today but it contrasted nicely against his light skin tone and of course it made him look like a bad boy. Funny thing is he was the most dorky, quirky, and all-around chill guy. For the last three years we have been in a relationship…without the actual relationship. Anything from cute late-night phone calls, movie dates, dinner dates, and even sex we tended to do it. I wouldn't think of him as a mate but I thought he was the closest I have ever come to feeling what it's supposedly like. Sadly, he never wanted a relationship although he has said he loved me on many occasions but he preferred us to stay best friends but he still tried to find a girlfriend whether that be on Tinder or women who walked into his job. Thankfully for me he hasn't found any.
The waitress placed out menus in front us saying a cute French accent, "Your waiter will be right with you!" and with that she turned back around strode to the front.
"She got a fat ass bruh" Jaime exclaimed as she was halfway down the aisle.
"I know, I want to turn around to see it." Rafa said with a mocking tone of sadness. I know he was playing around but I still felt the slight sting of hearing him fawn over another woman.
"Don't be so thirsty! She's to good for you anyways." I tell him while rolling my eyes. He smirks at me with that grin that melts my heart,
"Is someone jealous?"
"Mhm,", I say while picking up my menu and placing it in front of my face effectively hiding my blush from him. "I think I'm going to get a burger today", I say changing the subject.
"I want breakfast, maybe a Grand Slam?" Micah said from his corner. "What's my budget again"?
"I told you, I don't care what you get. Get whatever you want just be reasonable.", Jaime replied smiling knowing he could buy the whole menu if he really wanted to.
Even 25-year-old Sous Chef's get paid reasonably well, especially if they work in a five-star kitchen. Although Jaime and David were blood brothers, they still treated Rafa and Micah, who were also brothers, like their own family. They've known each other since they were 11 playing soccer on the same team and became each other's second family. I on the other hand met Rafa when we were in high-school and had a little fling but when he left Junior year we fell out of touch. That is until five years later when we rekindled and his family became my second family, and his friends became my friends. I guess we were our own little pack but…. pack if for life. I knew once Rafa got a girlfriend we wouldn't be the same. Days like this wouldn't happen anymore as I wouldn't be able to handle it. As of now my wolf stirs in my unconsciousness, clawing at the imaginary walls to get out whenever he even speaks of another woman. I begged the Moon at night to just let me find a Mate. To give me the man who would love me unconditionally, no matter how I currently looked. I wished he would meet my eyes and see the beautiful woman on the inside and envelop me in his warmth, in his own being. So far, those cries haven't been heard.
"I'm going to have a Philly cheesesteak. I'm in the mood to have some meat.", Rafa said snapping my attention back to him.
"Onions on the side for me please!", I told him as I knew he never ate onions on anything.
"I know, I know." He said laughing as he knew my love onions was never ending.
Our waiter, a young scrawny white guy with blonde hair and brown eyes, came by and took our entire order and saying he will be back with Micah's and I's milkshakes and the rest of the drinks. We all retreated into our phones for a bit before David struck up a conversation.
"Have you seen the recent raids?", He asked showing us the news report and subsequent video of FBI agents escorting cuffed men and women out of an apartment.
"Yea, those psycho supernatural hunters are going a bit far don't you think?", Jaimie inquired.
"They are taking advantage of the recent discovery of the Fae. Just because one supernatural creature exists doesn't mean all of them do. Besides the Fae are just older more evolved humans who happen to have a bit magic.", I said with a bit of a shoulder shrug.
I happen to know that was a lie and that in reality they were closer to Supreme Beings than anything. They wanted to appear more normal for the Human population as they came out to world in hopes of sharing their knowledge in an ever changing and hatred filled world. Most of the Fae are simply different lineage humans with a small touch of Magic, but the real Elders of the Fae were the most Dangerous and Powerful. Not even Alphas dared to challenge one alone, but thank the Gods that the Fae were gentle creatures. Yet, they were different and different isn't always accepted. Enter the self-appointed exterminators, better known as Genesis. Over the years of course there were always Hunters who knew or at least suspected the existence of Supernatural Beings. They mainly hunted in small towns and country states like most of the North West. Easier to explain killings and disappearances. Lately though, they felt vindicated with the public discovery that there was a type of Supernatural that actually existed. They started targeting larger and more popular cities like New York, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Raid by the FBI started happening after innocent Human civilians got caught in the cross fire. Silver Grenades are harmful to even humans when they breath it in and so are the Automatic Machine Guns they tended to use. Their motto was to never hurt humans but if they got in the way they were fair game. They gained more members and their technology became even better, creating tranqs to knock out Wolves along with ear bleeding high frequency device. Iron weapons for the Fae and UV light bullets for Vampires. If only they knew that Trio weren't the only things they should worry about.
"The Fae are gentle creature who only came out to help us with our Pandemics, Violence and Hate. If anything, we should let them because Humans are fucking DUMB.", I said that last word with emphasis.
"I don't care unless they mess with my own life. Until then let them do what they want, it's not like any Politician will allow them.", Jaime said.
"Their people too, you wouldn't even know the difference if one sat right next to you. Might as well let them be, they're not doing anything." Rafa replied. That made me snicker because its true! Fae use Glamour to disguise their true appearance if that appearance happens to be not so human.
"If we know the Fae exist then don't you think every other supernatural creature may just exist too? I mean Werewolves, Dracula, Mermaids, etc." Micah said.
"Maybe I can find me a hot female wolf for myself then.", Rafa said growling out loud. If only he knew he had a wolf right here, maybe not hot but otherwise a wolf all the same.
"You're to weak for a werewolf she would leave you in the dust boy.", David said with humor in is voice.
Our food came then thankfully as this conversation was getting to close for comfort. They sat my burger in front of me and I already could smell it was more towards well done then Mid-rare like I asked. Sighing but expecting it any how I asked the waiter, Yosef was his name, for a steak knife to cut it in half.
"Why can't you eat it like a normal person? Just bite into it.", Rafa said to me handing me his side of onions.
"Because my mouth isn't big enough, hence why you fit in it but Jaime doesn't.", I said smirking knowing the comeback would get to him. As much as he hated to deny it, he always did get jealous if I mentioned Jaime and anything sexual. We hadn't actually done anything but I still loved smelling that sour smell of jealousy on him even if his face only gave it away for a second.
"Awww Okay. I see how it is. Don't beg for Daddy anymore then.", he said nodding his head up and down.
"I never beg.", I came back at him with smiling in the process and having everyone give a collective 'ooooo' too.
"Here's your knife. Is there anything else I can get you?" Yosef asked handing me my knife but before anyone could respond his dangling bracelet suddenly burned me a bit as it hit my finger when I went for the knife. Silver. Pure silver at that.
"Ah! The fuck?", I exclaimed blowing on my finger where it was slightly red.
"What happened?", asked David
"Nah, I think I just got shocked.", I looked up at Yosef, "Sorry, my bad." I said apologetically. Silver, the loophole in the bargain to be a werewolf I suppose. If you want power you have to have some weakness. Balance is always a factor.
Yosef didn't seem to react as he was standing eerily still with the knife still in his hand.
"Uhm, sorry can I get that?", I asked cautiously in which he snapped back to reality. He smiled and said sorry as well and that it may have been because he's around so much metal in the back. He hurriedly walked away and I lost him when he rounded the corner towards the bathrooms.
"Well that wasn't weird at all…", I said slicing into my burger which I now can confirm was well done.
"Better hope he doesn't come back with a machine gun, white people tend to do that apparently. Genesis isn't the only thing people gotta worry about.", said Rafa with a full mouth of Philly.
I laughed at the thought of anyone trying to attack my pack and I. We were one of the strongest packs in North America behind the Marrok, the oldest and appointed leader of all Wolves, in North Dakota.
I reached for his hand and held it, "Don't worry I'll protect you."
He slowly pulled his hand back smiling, "Uh huh, rule number three remember?" he said smiling
Rule #3 was basically 'No touching without permission'. I was the only rule he had but I tended to be to touchy in public so to tease me he started Rule #3 even though he barely enforced it. Just another way of saying I wasn't really his but I accepted that already.
I smiled at him rolling my eyes and flipping my hair back over my shoulder. My eyes were something I was proud of, eyes are the most important to any Supernatural because no amount of Glamour or Magic can change one's eyes. They were truly the windows to the soul and mine happened to be Amethyst. When my wolf was rising to the surface instead of the usual golden or amber color other wolves had, they glowed to a light lavender. And trust me, they were glowing.
