It was a quiet night in the Rooney household. Teen genius Parker was sleeping over at his friend Reggie's house, nerdy older son Joey was at a Spacewolves convention, and parents Pete and Karen Rooney were out attending a concert for their anniversary. Thus, the only two in the house were twin sisters Liv and Maddie Rooney.
Liv, a starlet who acted on the musical TV show 'Sing it Loud', was sitting her basketball-playing sister down on the couch to show her some reruns of the show. "Ok, Maddie," she said, "this episode of 'Sing it Loooooooouuuuudddd' has my character-"
"Just tell me, Liv," her twin groaned, "how many minutes is there of singing?"
"In this forty-two minute episode? About fifteen minutes."
"And how many of that fifteen minutes is YOU singing?"
"Ten."
Maddie rolled her eyes. "Fine. But after this episode, I'm making you watch the Lakers game I recorded."
"Yay!" Liv exclaimed, clapping her hands. "I'll get some popcorn for us to munch on while I tell you how much quicker I learned the songs compared to the other people singing on screen. Here's a hint: I did it quicker than all of them!"
As the singer ran into the kitchen, Maddie swore she heard the sound of something crashing from upstairs. "Hey Liv," she called out, "I'll be right back. I think I heard something."
"Alright. Just hurry back so we can start watching!"
Maddie jogged up the stairs. But as soon as she got to the top of the stairs, a hand clamped over her mouth. Two more hands grabbed her wrists and pulled her into her bedroom, closing the door behind her.
oOo
A few minutes later, Liv was sitting on the couch. But Maddie wasn't there with her. In fact, she hadn't returned from upstairs at all…
"Maddie," Liv called from the couch, "Are you ok? You're not getting out of watching 'Sing it Looooooouuuuud' with me! I already promised to watch your dumb sportsball game."
There was another thud from upstairs. Somewhat concerned, Liv ran upstairs and heard another thud, this time coming from the bedroom she shared with her twin.
When she opened the door, she was faced with her twin sitting on the bed. Her ankles, knees, and wrists were ziptied behind her back and a white scarf was tied over her mouth.
But instead of screaming or calling the police, Liv laughed. "Very dramatic, Maddie. Tying yourself up to get out of watching my show, huh?"
"MMM!" her twin shouted in her gag, peering at something behind her and pointing her head at it, as if trying to indicate something.
Liv walked over, pulled the scarf down, and pulled a blue sock out of Maddie's mouth. "Huh, you actually gagged yourself properly too. You didn't just tie a scarf over your mouth and pretend that flimsy thing was enough to silence you like in those Hollywood movies with damsel scenes."
"First off, I would've used a clean sock and not one of my workout socks in the hamper if that was the case. But no, Liv, there-"
"And ouch! You used zipties? Those have got to be digging into your skin right now! Use scarves next time."
"Yes, the zipties are really stinging, but listen to me! We are being-"
Suddenly, a hand went over Liv's mouth and another went around her waist to hold her still. A pair of hands grabbed Liv's wrist, forced them behind her back, and secured them with a ziptie.
The hands lowered the singer so that she was sitting on the floor as more zipties went around her knees and ankles.
"HELP U-MMM!" Liv screamed as the hand went back around her mouth.
"WE'RE BEING KIDN-MMPH!" Maddie cried as the blue sock went back into her mouth and the scarf was tied back over her mouth.
"Stuff another sock from the hamper in the other one too," a voice ordered.
"Wait! Don't you know who that is? That's Liv Rooney from 'Sing it Loud'!" a female voice shouted.
"So?" a third voice asked.
"So we can't gag her with a dirty sock! She's Hollywood elite!"
"Fine. Put a clean sock from her drawer in her mouth then."
The hand over Liv's mouth lowered. "Which one is your dresser?"
"The one on the right," Liv answered. "HELP-MMM!"
The hand went back over her mouth as a figure dressed in all black ran over to her dresser, found the sock draw, grabbed a white ankle sock, and ran back over to Liv, where the sock was crammed into the starlet's mouth. Another scarf, this one pink, was tied over her mouth to keep the sock in.
The two sisters now had a better look at their three assailants: one was a short man, one was a female with brown hair with blue highlights hanging out of her ski mask, and the third robber was a taller and bulkier man. All three wore all-black outfits and had their faces covered by ski masks.
"Yes!" the shorter man exclaimed. "We rounded up the two people in the house! Now we're free to search through the house to find things to steal!"
"But where are we gonna look?" the girl asked.
The three thought for a moment before turning to their captors.
