Big wonderous eyes gaze curiously at the three large eggs laying peacefully in the baby carriage. The little duckling, no older than 5, softly taps against one of the hard shells.

"Hello, anyone in there?" Of course, he knew he wouldn't get any response but figured it would be the best way to pass the time until his uncle Donald came back from the other side of the door. He was told to wait outside and to not come in no matter what he heard, which was only him and another unknown male voice he's heard for the past hour.

He places a light-pink feathered hand on the egg's surface. "You don't have to be shy. My name's Daniel, your mama is my mama. So that makes me your big brother! He exclaims happily continuing rubbing the eggs softly.

He looks at his hands and forms a small frown at his pink-colored hands. Daniel was no ordinary duckling, no duck in the world could compare his physical appearance. Daniel was a white feathered just like his brother and sister, however, there were some places on his body that had permeant stians of pink.

Along with his arms, his hair, which was already possessing a spikey punk style had streaks of pink-highlights. Across his small beak was a small stipe of pink on it and last was on his tiny tail feathers. His mother and uncle sure got quite the surprise when he hatched. Despite his unique appearance, he was possibly one of the sweetest little duckling full of love and affection.

"I hope you don't get scared of me. I don't exactly look normal. Some people think my pink feathers make me a freak, but Im actually a nice guy once you get to know me! And uncle Donnie says my pink fluffs make me special than everyone else, so that's cool." He grabs the handles of the carriage, he is barely tall enough to reach due to his small height (he is tiny!) and gently pushes back and forth in a soothing motion.

For the next few minutes, he continues to make small talk with his unhatched nibblings while at the same time his mind wanders in the thought of wondering where his mother was. Wasn't she supposed to be here to make sure that they stayed warm? Come to think of it, he hadn't seen her in a while. Where could she be?

His eyes suddenly widen in alarm then places his hands again on the surface of the eggs. They were already getting cold! "Oh, boy. Oh, boy. H-hang, on guys. I'll find something." The poor duckling practically wrings his fingers together as he frantically tries to figure out how to get them back to warm. A light bulb flashes. Of course! His hoodie! Duh.

Pulling over his favorite pink and black colored hoodie Daniel covers the eggs. Placing his hands on his hips he leans back with a smile at the display. "There you go! I know its not a lot, but its better than nothing right?"

He frowns again when he places his hand again. "Hmm. No, not enough What else can I do?." Then it hits him. "Oh, duh! mom sits on them." He bops himself on the head before climbing up the stroller, careful not to be rough once he reaches the top of the eggs and fully lays on them to provide more warmth.

"Danny?" The little boy's head snaps up to find his uncle finally emerged from the closed room. Daniel notices the slight hints of anger that was plastered on the older ducks face only seconds before it had completely disappeared and replaced with a found look of bemused and confusion. "What are you doing?" Donald asks with a tilt of the head.

"These guys looked a bit freezing so Im trying to keep them warm so they don't catch a cold." The boy said rubbing his hand against one of them. "But I think this one already has the sniffles!" He exclaims as he pressed the side of his head on top of another one to hear the inside.

Shaking his head amusingly, Donald picks up the young duckling and holds him arm's length. "Im sure they're fine, little guy." He said placing him on the ground and ruffling his head warmly. "But it was sweet of you to look out for them. You're already doing great as your older brother role."

Daniel giggles at the hand on his head. "Thanks, Uncle Donnie!" His eyes then look around. "Do you know where mama is? She's been missing for a long time and we miss her!" At that, the hand suddenly stops dead. Daniel looks up at the elder with questioning eyes until the door to the room opening once again takes his attention.

Standing in the doorway was another duck much older than his uncle with a top hat, cane, and marron robe. The stranger wore a very hostile look. Daniel had seen him a few times during their stay in the giant home but he never once talked to him. Who was he? And where was his mom?

"Uncle Donnie? What's going on? Who's that-" The boy lets out a surprised yelp when he is quickly snatched up and brought to his uncle's chest and holding him there.

"He's no one, Kiddo." Adjusting him to a better carrying position he uses his free hand to grab the carriage handles and pushes. "We're going home."

"Is mama going to be there later?" Daniel asks against his Uncle's shoulder. He gets no answer. The boy wraps his small arms around the older ducks neck as his eyes lock to the elder duck slowly becoming smaller as they walk farther away. Shyly Daniel waves goodbye to the unknown duck who stood now shocked at the boy's tiny gesture.

The other raises his hand. But doesn't wave back.

It was quite a walk back to the docks where the boathouse stood afloat and by that time it had already become dark. Donald pushed the carriage into the dock of the boat a while Daniel, who was seated once again on top of the eggs, told his younger siblings all the best things about being on a boat. "...and the best part is the rocking! It rocks you back and forth and puts you right to sleep when you cant do it yourself. Right, Uncle Donnie?"

Donald smiles tiredly at the boy. He was such a chatterbox and Donald wouldn't have him any other way. "Right you are, Danny."

Stepping inside he parks the carriage right in the middle of their tiny living room and Daniel hops right down spreading his arms wide. "Well, here it is! Boat, sweet boat! You guys are gonna love it here!" He says getting closer to the eggs again with an excited smile. "And when mama gets here its really going to feel home!" He smiles giddily at the thought. They were finally going to be family!

"Daniel." His uncle's uncharacteristic voice immediately catches his attention. "Come here, kiddo." He listens and slowly makes his way to the older duck who was now seated on the sofa. His expression was slightly pained.

"Yes, Uncle Donnie?" Donald doesn't respond immediately but instead picks up his nephew and sits him in his lap, bringing him into an embrace. He feels the boy snuggle deeply against his chest and he tightens his hold, he can practically feel the boys smile. The boy just loved hugs.

He holds him for a few minutes before finally pulling away and looking down at his nephew's curious eyes.

He has her eyes he thinks. It breaks his heart.

"Danny. There's something I need to tell you. About your mom." At that Daniel's head perks up but his smile instantly dims at his Uncles next words. "I need you to be a big boy, right now for me ok? Can you do that?"

He has no idea what the other is talking about but nodded, agreeing to be a big boy for whatever his uncle is going to tell him.

Donalds lets out a stuttering breath and lets out the truth.

"Your mom's gone"

Daniels's small world freezes. He can't move. He must have heard wrong. "What...?"

"She left. Someplace far away and she's not coming back. Not for a very..." He takes another gulping breath and quickly composes himself. He needs to be strong." very time."

There was nothing but silence. Uncle and nephew held a staring contest as the information kept replaying on the little one's head. The boy then lowers his head, eyes turned away from the one person who basically raised him.

Who wanted him.

Concern filled Donald as he watched his nephew's reaction. He expected him to scream or to say it was all a lie but he got nothing. "Danny?"

Donald slightly draws back when he notices the boys trembling body and his pink feathers that were slowly starting to glow brightly. He can feel an uncomfortable shift in the air, one that he knew all too well. "Danny? Danny! You need to calm down!" Donald grasps the tiny boy's shoulders and gently shakes him out of his faze. The glow finally cutting off.

Donald sighs in relief but chokes on his breath when the boy's head raises up revealing shining miserable eyes. "Was it..." Daniel sniff trying to get his word out. "Was it me? Did she leave because of me?" He looks down at his hands, clenching them tightly with hate. He didn't ask to be born like this "What!? No! Danny, listen to me, look at me." The boy does. "Her leaving had nothing to do with you, do you understand? You did nothing wrong."

"Then why did she leave!?"

Daniel was beyond crushed. He had thought that finally, finally, his mother had shown interest of settling down. And with the new arrival of his three younger siblings, his little family would finally be complete!

But she had left. Again.

She left him and his younger-

Wait.

Daniels's head snaps to the still three eggs covered under his pink hoodie and scrambles off his uncle's lap and races to them. Upon approaching them, he runs his hands against them at the new thought coming to his head.

His mom had abandoned them. Just like how she abandoned him.

Daniel did not want them to go through what he did. He did not want them to feel that they were unloved.

Something in him snapped.

"We don't need her." Donald's head recoils a bit at the sudden cold tone his eldest nephew used as he spoke to the eggs. "We can be a family all on our own. You, me, and uncle Donald. With us, you will always be loved." He muttered softly.

They didn't need anyone else. They were all they needed.
