Title: And Babies Make 4

By: greygoose70

Summary: OMG, Kate's pregnant again…with twins.

Katherine Houghton Beckett-Castle is standing in the kitchen making herself a cup of decaf coffee, which she hates, cause even adding the two pumps sugar free vanilla it didn't taste the same, didn't have the same kick to it either but because of her current condition was all she could have.

Taking her coffee she walked, more like waddled, into the lofts enormous living space sitting down in one of the comfortable leather armchairs (easier to get up from than the sofa unless Rick was there to help her). Setting her coffee down on the side table she heard a commotion coming from the upstairs then seeing her three year old daughter, Lily, sliding up in her socked feet stopping when she reached the guardrail.

"Slow down there munchkin," she heard her other daughter, Alexis Marie Beckett-Castle ( her adopted one), shout just before she also came into view, still in her pajamas as well.

"What going on up there?" Kate asked as she went to take a sip of her coffee.

"Nothing Mama," the little girl replied although Kate wasn't buying her answer.

Lily grabbed hold of the handrail, like she had been taught, and began descending the stairs running directly to her mother upon reaching the bottom. Usually she would vault herself into her mothers lap but right now she didn't have one so she wrapped her arms around her legs.

"Careful there Lily," Lexi said coming up to Kate wrapping a arm around her shoulder giving her a kiss to the cheek. "How you feeling, Mom?"

Kate felt that excited feeling surge through her, the one she always felt when Lexi calls her Mom or introduced her as Mother. She's gotten it from the very beginning when Lexi brought the adoption papers home telling her it is something she wanted and to be truthful it was something Kate herself wished for. Then after Lily was born and Alexis discovered her name included the Beckett surname as well as Castle she went and had her name legally changed to include it also. When Lexi came home that day showing her the order that officially changed her name to Alexis Marie Beckett-Castle, Kate cried tears of joy, thanking her, for loving her. Then when she showered her father there were more tears from him.

"Fat," Kate answered, "I just want these two boys out. It feels like there's a wrestling match going on down there."

"Well you just sit here and take it easy. I'll take Lily upstairs and get her changed, then myself. Come on Lily-Pad," Alexis' pet name for her younger sister.

Kate took another sip of her coffee, "Ugh," she grunted thinking she should have fixed a tea instead. Deciding to forgo anymore of the disgusting tasting liquid she picked up her book, the latest Nikki/Rook adventure, opened to where she left off and immersed herself in her husbands story telling excellence, that is until her stomach let out out a growl.

Realizing she hadn't eaten anything yet today she scooted out of the chair, picked up the cup of unfinished coffee, carrying it with her to the kitchen and dumping it down the sink then rinsed the cup. The sound of the running water must have trigger something because suddenly she felt wetness run down her leg. "LEXI! She yelled as she looked down seeing a puddle starting to form on the floor.

"What's wrong Mom!" Lexi shouted back from the top of the stairs. "Believe my water just broke! Kate shouted back, "text your father."

Richard Castle sat in the large conference room at Black Pawn listening to his agent, Paula, and publisher, Gina (ex-wife #2) argue over his contract for three more Nikki Heat books, an argument Paula always won when his phoned buzzed signaling a text. Pulling it from his pocket he read the text, leaped out his seat and ran for the exit without saying a word.

"Must be baby time," commented Paula then going right back into the reasons Rick deserved the increase monies he was demanding.

Castle was just exiting the cab when he saw the limo he has kept on standby pull up. Rushing to it he opened the door just in time to hear Kate let out a groan. "Contraction," he said more like a statement. "The first," she replied once the pain subsided.

Right then Alexis showed up with a wheelchair. Taking Kate's hand Castle helped her out of the limo and into it. "Go ahead Dad, I'll bring Lily and the overnight bag," Alexis told him reaching in clasping Lily's hand helping her out. Peter, their driver, stood there, the bag in his hand waiting til the little girl was safely out then handed it over. "Thank you Peter. It was so nice of you and the others to just sit around these past few days waiting. Give our thanks to them as well."

"It was our pleasure Miss Alexis. The Castle family is more than a customer to us but friends also," Peter responded.

"We know. Enjoy the rest of your day, Peter; we'll call when we're ready to go home." She remained standing there till he pulled away before heading into the hospital.

"Hello Kate," Dr. Lorraine Kildare, Kate's OBGYN, said in greeting as she walked into her room, number 322, same room Kate had when Lily was born. "You ready to bring these two boys into the world?"

"The sooner the better," Kate replied, "Had my first contraction roughly 15 minutes ago." Just then she began to grimace as another one hit her.

"Let's see how far along you are," speaking as she lifted Kate's hospital gown to take a measurement. "Well you're already at a five. Did you have some discomfort prior to your water breaking?"

"Some but nothing serious."

"Okay but I will need to have a nurse check on you a little more often. I'll want you in delivery as son as you're at eight." She then turned leaving, letting Rick, Alexis and Lily enter.

Forty minutes later Kate let out a scream Castle was sure the entire maternity floor could hear. Instantly Nurse Morrison rushed in having heard. "Mr. Castle will you step out please." Flipping the gown up Morrison, slipped in three fingers and knew it was time. She retreated back to the door, opened it finding Castle standing there, "get ready," she told him then shouted for Nurse Betty to come help her, it was time to get Kate into delivery.

Rick quickly stepped back into the room donning the gown, cap and footsies that had been delivered for him earlier then high-tailed it to the delivery room getting there just as Kate let out another horrendous scream. He removed her hand from the death grip she had on the handrail, taking it in one his own, brushing her sweat laden hair back off her face with the other, talking to her.

Dr. Kildare walked in raised the sheet that covered Kate's lower half folding it up over her knees. "Looks like we have a head starting to peek out so take a deep breath Kate and give me a push."

Kate inhaled deeply and began pushing grunting the entire time. "Good one Kate, we have a head. Give me another one like that one." Kate inhaled again and pushed with everything she had. "Got him," Kildare said holding the newborn infant, tickling his feet waiting for him to take his first breath on his own, wailing out loud when he did. "You going to cut the cord this time Rick?"

"Yes," was his immediate answer.

"Nurse Betty take little Castle one here and clean him up," Dr. Kildare said handing the little one over after the cord was cut.

"His name is Jake," Kate managed to say. "Yes, the first one to come out is to be named Jake Alexander Beckett-Castle," Rick explained.

"And the second," Kildare asked?

"Reese James Beckett-Castle," they said in unison.

"Well let's see if we can't get Reese out so he can meet his brother. Give me a push Kate."

Two minutes later, in what must have felt like two hours to Kate, Reese James Beckett-Castle took his first breath, wailing just as loud as his brother.

After Rick cut the cord Nurse Morrison took Reese exiting the delivery room just as Jake was being brought back in by Nurse Betty who placed him on Kate's shoulder. Kate thought she felt undying love when Lily was born but she just felt it again and then when Nurse Morrison placed Reese on her other shoulder she felt like the luckiest woman alive. She was not only the Mother to two beautiful daughters but now had two beautiful sons also. It was so over-whelming she started to cry.

Rick seeing tears beginning to flow from his Kate's eyes instantly leaned over asking her "what's the matter". Shaking her head she mumbled, "nothing…happy."

"Me too," he replied wiping her tears away with his thumbs. "I'm gonna go bring Lexis and Lily in. Okay?" She nodded her head in approval, watched him leave then turned her head to gaze at Jake then back to gaze at Reese.

She was still doing this when the door opened and her two daughters entered, Lily running up to the bed, Lexi walking up behind her. "I wanna see Mommy," Lily cried trying to hop up on the bed.

"No-no Lily-pad. Come here," Lexis motioning her sister over. Lily obeyed and Lexi picked her up to see her brothers. "They look alike Mama."

"That's because they are twins baby, remember, we explained this to you."

"Yea, I forget, sorry," a sadden look on her face. "No need to be sorry Lily, lots of people forget things," Kate told her.

"Which is Jake," Lexi asked?

"The one on my right. You want to hold him?"

Lexi set Lily down on the edge of the bed telling not to move before taking Jake from her mothers shoulder. "So, you little brother were the first one out of the chute. How exciting was that?"

"Lexi!" Mother Kate exclaimed but with humor in her voice.

Lexi just laughed, "your words Mom. That's what you said when I asked, first one out is ot be named Jake."

"Wanna hold him," Lily said stretching out her arms. "Okay, Mom?"

"Okay Lily, but first you need to get completely on the bed and sit Indian style, like mommy showed you."

Lily did as her mother said then Lexi placed baby Jake in her arms. "Lex, can you take Reese?"

"Sure Mom. You tired?"

"Yeah, I am."

"She should be,' Nurse Morrison said walking into the room Nurse Betty right behind her. "Giving birth to one is tiring enough, twice is darn right arduous."

"Sorry to do this but we need to take Jake and Reese and run some test. We will then put them out in observation, seems there are quite a few people waiting anxiously to see these two cuties."

Lexi handed over Reese to Nurse Morrison while Nurse Betty retrieved Jake from Lily. "Whose all out there?" Kate asked although she didn't really need to.

"Well let's see, there's Uncle Bob and Aunt Joyce…"

"You've got the Mayor and his wife waiting…!"

"Not me, Dad called them," Lexi interrupted then continued on. "there's Aunt Teresa…"

"How…"

"Mom. Stop interrupting. Dad flew her in a couple days ago. He wanted to surprise you."

"Well he's certainly done that. Okay, who else."

"The rest you probably expected. There's Mattie, okay maybe you weren't expecting her. Kevin and Jenny, Esposito and Lanie, Chief Gates, Perlmutter was here but got a call and had to leave, sent his congratulations though."

Meanwhile out in the maternity waiting room Rick was keeping his and Kate's friends entertained when Alexis and Lily came out informing them the babies would be in the viewing area shortly. Everyone immediately headed for the glass viewing area.

Pulling her Uncle Bob aside Alexis told him Kate would like to see him and Aunt Joyce immediately. "Okay," he said then taking Joyce's hand they headed for Kate's room.

Kate was sitting up straight in her bed when Mayor Robert Weldon and his wife, Joyce walked in. "Sorry for my appearance Mr. Mayor, Joyce, I…"

"Kate, how long have we been friends? Never mind. I may be Mr. Mayor in public but right now its just Bob."

"Old habit, Bob, but thanks for being here, it means a lot to me."

"Kate," Joyce began, "Bob and I have been keeping tabs on your condition, through Rick, ever since we heard. You're like family, we care about you."

Kate could feel her eyes beginning to wet up from the accolades bestowed upon her by these two wonderful people. They may have started out as her husbands best friends but have grown to be so much more to her and Ricks family.

"Kate," Bob breaking her out of her spell. "You remember Carl Beaumont?"

Kate thought or a moment before replying. "The Party leader, yeah. Why?"

"He wants to talk to you. Seems Burton is retiring at the completion of his term and the Party wants you to run, they're positive you can win."

"That's a lot to think about Bob. I don't know, with three kids now I'll be…"

"Just talk to him first, Kate. Let him lay it all out for you. Burton's term still has another two and half years to go. Talk it over with Rick, okay. And by the way you're as beautiful as ever."

"Yeah, right," Kate responded with a chuckle. "But yes I will speak with Carl and with Rick, maybe it is time for a change."

"Remember Kate, whatever you decide Bob and I will support you. We love you." Joyce injected leaning in to give Kate a kiss on the cheek.

"Come on Honey, we've taken up enough of her time, she needs her rest and I want to see these babies, there potential voters." Finishing that last part wit h a laugh.

"Love you guys too," Kate said as they turned and left. She lowered the bed back, closed her eyes instantly falling asleep.

"You were in there quite a while Bob. What'd you two have to talk about?" Rick asked when Bob and Joyce arrived back at the large window of the baby viewing area.

"Kate will tell you," he replied, "now I want to see my two new nephews and voters."

"Bob, you'll be retired by the time Jake and Reese are old enough to vote."

"You don't don't know that, Rick."

"You can't run for Mayor of New York City forever."

"Who said anything about running for Mayor."

"We'll talk it over poker, Thursday night, my place."

NEVER THE END
