Author's Note:

Hello everyone, WeatherGOD here. This is my first fic that I have written, and I honestly just wanted to write this because it came to me while I was thinking about Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, and how I've always wondered about Cynthia and how she came to be. It recently made me wonder about how she could be a pianist, and so I finally decided to write about it. I really just want to write my own personal story about her and a few other characters that I've included just to make it seem more like her story. Anyway, enough about me, let's get to the story. One last note, people from our world's history exist in the Pokemon world too, like Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff (foreshadowing) you get the point.

It was raining... heavily. Late September in Sinnoh was always like this, the first big storm of the fall would always come from the east side of Sinnoh near Iron Island and work their way into the mainland. This one was no different, the first storms were always the wettest, sucking up the moisture from the south near Pastoria and Sunnyshore and crashing it into Mount Coronet.

Cynthia loved the rain this time of year, especially in this year. It had been extraordinarily hot, and the young girl couldn't bear the heat. It had been miserable being cooped up in her grandparent's house with her sister all summer. It was much ado about nothing in Cynthia's life since school had ended in May. She was beginning to regret her incredibly fast graduation from trainer school in Celestic Town, and now, at the age of 14, she was unsure of what to do with herself. She was a weird case. She owned no Pokemon besides a Shellos she got as a reward for graduating so early from her grandmother. While Shellos was a good partner to have, she wasn't too keen on setting out on a full blown adventure like what was expected of her. her love of the outdoors had been hampered by the summer's excruciating heat, and she was worried about taking care of her aging grandmother.

Cynthia wanted to test something. On these rainy days, Pokemon would descend from the mountains to escape the landslides that would occur on the slopes, and they would often attack the town's north side if they were provoked. Typically they would attack and Cynthia's grandmother would take care of them, but now she was too old to really fight. It wasn't like her to not still go out and protect the town, even in her old age. Cynthia planned on accompanying her today. As she had learned in trainer's school, Water was four times effective on the Graveler and Rhydon that would attack the town, and she had taught her Shellos Water Pulse, so why not?

BANG! An explosion had come from the outskirts of the town, a big one. "Looks like our first catch of the day has hit your poor friend Byron's house." Cynthia's grandmother said, looking out of the window. "Well, you're a trainer now aren't ya? Why don't you come with me today to fend 'em off? It'll be tough, but I want you to learn the hardships of becoming a trainer." she looked on as she said this, waiting for Cynthia's excited reaction to this statement, which came. "You're SERIOUS?! YAY! I'm so excited oh my goodness thank you grandma, wow!" Cynthia exclaimed, jumping up from her perch on the couch.

Cynthia took Shellos out of its Pokeball, gave it a little pat on the head and said, "You're gonna finally be able to battle today!". Shellos gave her a happy cry and began to dance around in Cynthia's living room. Shellos was not quite yet strong enough to battle with strong Pokemon trained by Gym Leaders, but nonetheless was eager to battle, the squishy little slug. The treatment that it had gotten over the past few months had been quite nice. Cynthia had nothing better to do than to play with Shellos and feed it poffins, so Shellos was up for anything that Cynthia wanted to do.

"You're going to clean that later you know?" her grandmother pointed to the trace of mud on the carpet that had been left by Shellos's dance on the floor. Cynthia quickly withdrew Shellos to save herself some time cleaning later. Her grandmother laughed "You'd better have better awareness when we're fighting" "I'll certainly be sure!" Cynthia responded innocently. As they walked over to Byron's house, they saw Byron trying to lure the attackers, a Graveler and a Rhyhorn, away from his small house and the herb shop. Cynthia's grandmother let out one of her four Pokemon, a Machoke. Machoke let out a ready cry, like a soldier, and Cynthia's grandmother pointed to the assailants and said, "Have fun". Machoke nodded and ran to the fight to help out Byron and his Bronsor. Byron looked back to see Cynthia and her grandmother not too far behind him, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Good to see ya granny, how're you keeping up?" Byron sighed. "I've decided to let Cynthia start coming to help with the issue at hand, so I guess I'm finally getting old." "I see the new addition you have, and how would you be doing Ms. Training School Graduate?" "I'm very excited! I really want to test the waters of battle, see how I do against strong Pokemon like these!" Cynthia happily exclaimed.

The happiness quickly turned to determination. The young trainer quickly ran into the fray and began battling the Graveler, eager to prove her strength to Byron and her grandmother (and maybe get out of having to clean the floor later). The Graveler paid no attention to Cynthia at first, being preoccupied with her grandmother's Machoke. "Shellos, get it's attention with Water Pulse!" she exclaimed. Shellos fired up a rather large Water Pulse and sent it careening towards her target, landing a direct hit. "YES! DID YOU SEE THAT? I'M AWESOME GRANDMA! BYRON DID YOU S-" Cynthia paused. The Graveler had surely had its attention gotten, and it looked very unhappy. Something seemed wrong though. It hadn't started moving towards Shellos. The Graveler then alleviated the tension of the situation by suddenly passing out. The Pokemon had been unexpectedly rocked by Shellos's Water Pulse, and the tough act that it had put on vanished upon the realization that it could no longer battle. In fact, the fighting had completely stopped for a minute. "...uh wow? I mean, holy shit Cynthia! It's just a wild Pokemon. you don't have to drive it to extinction" Byron exclaimed in disbelief. "I didn't even mean to hit it that hard," Cynthia ran over to the fainted Graveler "I'm so sorry big guy, I didn't know Shellos would hit you that hard. I'll heal you and we'll get you back to the wild" Shellos had now joined Cynthia in apologizing for shellacking the unsuspecting Graveler.

The Rhyhorn had also shown concern for its fellow assailant, waddling over to the Graveler's side. "I'm so sorry big guy. Let's get you healed up" Cynthia pulled out a revive and a super potion to give to the Graveler. After treating the Graveler, it quickly rolled back into the wild and into a borough. The Rhyhorn however, stayed behind. "Whatcha wanna do buddy?" Byron asked. The Rhyhorn stared blankly at him. "Well, I've got a son at home that'd really like to keep ya, he's gonna turn 10 on Friday, might as well catch ya and give you to him" Byron threw a Pokeball at the Pokemon, who was still just staring at him. Byron turned to Cynthia and her grandmother "Well, I can't thank you two enough for helping me, even though it wasn't too bad today. We'll have to watch for when the rain gets heavier and the big boys come to play." he said, returning his Bronzor. He pointed to Cynthia and her Shellos "I don't know what in the hell you are feeding that thing, but I'd love to get some before I head off to Canalave to fill up the gym vacancy there. Say Cynthia, why don't you do the gym challenge with that little Shellos of your's? You'd for sure beat the first gym leader; complete pushover, hah!"

Her grandmother eyed her Shellos as they began walking home. "You know, I would like to see how that goes. I think it's time for you to live a little. Go out and see the world Cynthia, I'll always be here. I may not answer the phone after one ring, but I'll be here. I've always wanted this for you" Byron nodded in agreement with her grandmother, "Yeah kid, go for it, I'll be waiting for you in Canalave, and call me if you need anything from me too" Byron reiterated her grandmother's statement. Cynthia's apathy from the summer had all but vanished. She wanted to do the gym challenge, no matter how tough it was. She hadn't done anything quite to the scale of it before, the closest thing to it was winning the Sinnoh Junior Pianists Cup, but that had happened in January, and that was the only time she had traveled outside of Celestic Town. She was ready to see the world, no matter the challenge.

It's Author's Note time! Yes I plan on making this a fic with multiple chapters! There's no way I could have finished this in one night lol. Cynthia's next little tale is going to be quite interesting. My hope is to integrate her being a pianist and all that later in the fic. This will take place over many years in Cynthia's life and will really showcase her development from young adult into a woman. I'm going to include most of the gym leaders in the main games as much as I can, this will stay true to the main games in DPPt, maybe a little variation, but don't be surprised if Cynthia gets Pokemon other than those on her team in DPPt. Anyway, tell me what you guys thought in the comments, I'm gonna keep doing this fic till I finish it, so we'll see how long this takes me. Peace! ~WG
