The drow sat on a stone wall that guarded the castle that held the king of the city of Ashen'fell. He has a partner that would be on the ground checking out each person that wanted to enter the castle grounds. He was just her back up if anything were to go wrong. His job was a pity job since his mom was a head knight of the city and he wasn't good enough to do anything hard but you get something for knowing some one. He got something handed to him like a spoiled child and though he was grateful for the money he hated being handed things. Growing up he wanted to be a star fighter like his mother but instead he took after his father and became a wizard. His father used to work as a head wizard and right hand of the king but ended up going mad and got locked up in the town's Asylum. But before that the man taught his son some wizarding skills. He was left above average but no where near the skills of his parents.
The drow was left sitting on the wall bored watching knights in training waiting for any signal from his partner.
"Vorn". The drow got snapped out of his thoughts by a deep voice of a female. Vorn learned she was a Goliath years ago and she was always the one to take over when his shift was over.
"Your turn? I'll get out of your way." He packs his stuff up and leaves. He walks into the city watching storm clouds roll in. The clouds were dark gray almost black in color. Vorn decided to go to his father old house to pick up some things from old house before he was taken to the asylum. It was a beach house. His father moved there after his parents split up. It wasn't that his mother no longer loved him but that his father was slowly pulling away and she felt it was better to let someone go before someone was hurt. Though the straw that broke everyone was when someone did get hurt.
The father ended up getting into necromancy magic and for whatever project he was working on was in need of some fresh flesh. Who better than your son. He had drugged his son and took his eye and his arm. Vorn woke up with his eye out and watched his father cut his arm off. He was able to run away before any more had happened and went to his mother. He had never gone back to the house. But with a storm that looks bad he has decided he should get some remaining things before it go bad outside.
Once vorn is there he slowly goes in, he packs things like pens and empty note books that he left behind but he felt there were answers in the house about his father and went to looking. The house was bare as is but he knew his father and knew there would be something like hidden doors. He had found nothing until he hit his fathers desk. He opened all the drawers and pressed down on them and found a secret cubby in the drawer. There he found a pile of notes in his fathers hand writing. He pocketed them as thunder started to roll in. It was his signal it was time to go. As he walked out he saw the waves were getting larger and the rain was starting to crash down like ruthless daggers. He runs off to his mothers house where he's been living until he is able to get on his own two feet.
Once he's there his mission was supper. The kitchen was small but you don't need much room for only two people. But despite the smallness his mother kept up with the modern looks. She didn't care for large homes but she did have an image to protect. It was decided between her and vorns father when they were first moving in together. When they split up his father moved into his office at the castle then into the home on the beach. They then would share custody of vorn and that was basically the only times he was his dad, the week visits that happened every other week.
Vorn makes himself a mixture of rice and eggs. Sits at a red oak table and started reading the notes he took from his fathers house. It started back when his father was still with his mom.
"This is to chart my experience with my new subject. This morning I found a purple stone that connected itself to me when I touched it."
"I remember that stone. That's where all the issues started." Vorn whispered to himself. He went on to read and learned how this stone would whisper to him. Wanting him to raise an undead army. It talked about how he slowly changed his wizardry from conjuration to necromancy. Years later it talked about vorn and his interest in being a
Wizard. The stone begged him to only teach vorn necromancy and he listened to the stone. Each passage the note became more obsessive with the stone more than studying it. His hand writing slowly slipping into sloppy work. He would only talk about needing the stone with him. He talked about his wife leaving him but at least he had the stone and getting fired but at least he had the stone and soon he lived almost alone on the beach. He
Talked about how he dreaded vorn coming to stay for the week because the stone was more important. He talked about how annoying vorn was for wanting lessons on wizardry and the stone would help tune vorn out. It talked about this potions recipe for a potion that would let you live forever. Nothing being able to kill you natural or unnatural. The recipe called for flesh of an innocent and vorn only being 15 at the time his father hurt him it was understandable that this potion was why.
And that was the end of the notes. It ended probably because after that night vorns mother had him locked up into the Asylum and there he remains. After he finished reading the notes he put them into his bag and washed up his mess before going to his room and going to bed for the night.
His rest was short lived because his mother came in still dressed in work close shaking him up.
"Vorn we need to go the bunkers. The city is being flooded." She says before walking back into into the hall. Vorn jumps up and gets his stuff he cares about together, so things like his notebooks, books, some extra clothes, and a sleeping bag. He meets him mother at the front door and off they went into the streets. The water was to the point each step was greeted with a splash of water. They walked speedily to the towns bunkers that sat in the mountains. It took them twenty minutes, would have been faster but his mother was still on duty and had to usher people to the bunkers. Once he was in one with his mother and a handful of other people he picked his bed waiting for instructions or for it to be quite enough to rest.
