The morning was not quiet, nor was it peaceful with Umino Iruka's class. The young Chūnin let out a heavy sigh as a struggling blond boy was hurled into glass by another Chūnin. " Naruto, you're late " said Iruka, disappointed eyes following the blond. " Yeah, sorry about that, " sheepishly he scratched the nape of his neck
" won't happen again, Iruka-sensei!"
A young girl watched from her seat beside a ravenette. She wondered why the blond came late to the academy. Like many other people in the village she knew that Uzumaki Naruto was an orphan and the container for the Kyuubi no Soto - a jinchuruki. She probably thought that the Uzumaki was being chased or harassed by the villages because of what he has. She thought that for a pretty long time but on one occasion she had woken up late for school. On her run to the academy she caught the blond strolling leisurely with his fingers interlaced behind his head. Her thoughts of the boy being harassed on his way to school or ducking from a mob of villages went out the window. Then she noticed that that he would smile and apologise to Iruka-sensei for his tardiness.
" Naruto, you keep on doing this, once you become a ninja you have to follow a time—" the Chūnin was interrupted by a abrupt laughter from a group of students across the room. " Don't you mean, ' if ' he becomes a ninja, sensei! " the boy scoffed " His the Deadlast! His probably gonna fail anywa— " the class was filled with gasps and whispers. Said boy was holding his swollen cheek and holding back some tears. " So what if I'm the Deadlast " Naruto hissed " So what! It doesn't matter. I'm gonna be the greatest ninja the village has ever seen! " His bangs filled his vision. His fists shook at his sides.
" So that I can become the next Hokage! You better believe it! " He pointed an accusatory finger at the boy. His blue eyes narrowed at the subject.
" Naruto! Step out of my class this instant! "
Iruka-sensei's words broke the class from its' staring. The Chūnin followed the orange boy out of the class and shut the door. Then the class began with their own buzzing conversations, taking advantage of a lack of adult supervision. " What a dobe " someone grumbled. She turned her head to the ravenette. His coal eyes were narrowed at the shut door. He must have thought no one heard him. However she heard him then turned to the window she sat beside. It looked out to the courtyard. She thought that he was wrong. He was not an idiot. Like all people he has the potential to be smart. Maybe the smartest person! No one really knows.
Unbeknownst to her, the ravenette heard her 'inner thoughts.' He saw in the corner of his eye the back of his classmate's head. Her green hair tied up into a ponytail. We'll see about that, he thought and instead turned to look at the dark forest green board.
Just an hour before school ended, she was on task on finishing homework. They were given extra worksheets but she had halfway completed them. Iruka-sensei excused himself from class to run a quick errand. Not before he gave a firm warning to the class that if they misbehaved while he was gone and found out, the entire class would be kept an hour behind. Like every other day the class nodded fervently at the threat. Once Iruka-sensei was out of earshot, the class went into a buzzing of conversations, ranging from what will happen after graduation to someone's crush. She looked up from her completed work. The Uzumaki had his head down once again - like every other day. This only meant one thing, he did not bother with his work. She had noticed this behavior since the first week of school when she started the academy. The very next day, Naruto would get scolded by the teacher and laughed at for being an idiot by the class because he forgot his homework or it got lost or a dog tore up his work book that had his homework. She might not have been done with her own worksheets but she was completed with the days earlier work, maybe she could help him with that if he did not understand or probably did not do the work.
She steadily got up from her seat. It alerted the
many - female - heads in the classroom. " Thanks for the seat Ayame! " a girl with pale blond hair shiver the green head just before she could leave her desk. The commotion caused more to stir. The female population of the class shoved and squabbled over the seat beside the ravenette. Ayame, thankfully, did not get hurt as bad as the last time she had gotten up from her seat. Maybe a bruise on her side but she did not complain. The bleeding gash she had on her arm - now only a feint scar - told her not to cry about measly bruises.
" Hi, Naruto " the blond looked up from his position and blinked sleepily at the green head. " Urh... Sorry but do I know you? " he chuckled sheepishly and rubbed the nape of his neck. A nervous habit, noted by the green head. "Sorry, sorry, my name's Ryū Ayame, it's nice to meet you, Uzumaki
Naruto " Ayame held out her palm to shake. The blond stared at the open hand with skeptical blue eyes. Ayame noticed his suspicious gaze. Just as she was to drop her hand, it was taken by another. " It's nice to meet you too, Ryū Ayame " he grinned, showing off his bright pearly whites. " D-Don't take this the w-wrong way or anything but... " Ayame rubbed the nape of her neck " ...Do you need help with your work? " she asked hesitantly. Naruto had a blank look over his sun-kissed features. " W-Why did y-you ask that? " he sputtered and bit his bottom lip. Ayame pursed her lips and took a deep breath, " Because I've noticed that you get yelled at for not doing your homework or barely finishing class assignments " Ayame took a moment to stare at the blond's face. He had turned his attention to the desk with an empty worksheet, trying to burn a hole through the paper. " So you pity me then, well I do— " when the blond returned a harsh glare at the green head, it disappeared. Her head was turned to the empty space on the desk, as if she was deep in thought. The small wisps of green hair hanging over her face like green stems hanging over a a cliff. " I'm not pitying you, Naruto, I know how it feel to be judged before you get to show others what you're made of, I know " she sighed and traced the edge of the table. Silence rested for a few minutes.
" H-Hey, Ayame? Could you help me? " Ayame, snapped out of her stupor, looked to the blond with wide eyes. Round pools of liquid amethyst, glittered like sparkles in the small amount of light. " You eyes are really pretty " said Ayame in a whisper. " Huh? What? " Naruto shook his head. " I was gonna say
that! " exclaimed Naruto in disbelief. Ayame shook her head with a chuckle. " Well, thank you " the Ryū pulled out her work. " And, uhm... Thank you " said the blond in no more than a whisper, a tinge of pink across his cheeks. " You welcome! " the green head grinned.
After thirty minutes of work being answered and explained, Uzumaki Naruto was halfway done with his work. Five minutes in the half hour, Iruka-sensei arrived with new work for homework. Imagine the surprised look he had when he noticed Ayame sitting with the blond Uzumaki instead of the ravenette. " Thanks for helping me, Ayame " Naruto smiled. Ayame grinned " No problem, Naruto, that's what friends are for? Right? " Naruto stared wide eyed and mouth agape, a dark shade of pink across his face. He nodded " Y-Yeah,
friends. "
The Ryū wondered back to her seat not before asking the blond if he needed more help which he refused but also made the young Uzumaki promise that he would go to her if he need help with anything. At her assigned seat two girls, a pinkette and an ash blond head, was found. " Uhm... Excuse me, Sakura but you're sitting in my seat " stated the green head. " Yeah, so what you got off this seat meaning you lost your right to sit here " she said matter-of-fact. The blond on the other side of the ravenette huffed in agreement. " I can't believe it but I'm actually siding with Billboard Brow on this one. So go back to you idiot boyfriend and leave us alone. " Ayame was not as shocked at their reasons as one would think. She was used to it by now, over the years it has gotten predictable. " Sure " she grinned showing the three her pearly whites " You guys have fun! " the Ryū got the rest of her stuff and went off to sit beside the Uzumaki - who was a bit taken aback to see her.
Back at the desk where the teen head shared with the ravenette, said boy was fuming. He never showed his emotions so kept the the raging irritation he had inside. An involuntary twitch ticked at his brow. " So, now that we're alone, Sasuke-kun, how about we— " before the pinkette could finish the blond cleared her throat loudly catching most of the attention from the class. " Ignore her, Sasuke-kun, now that we're alone, how about you and me g— Ow! Who threw that?! " the blond, distracted by a tug of hair from the pinkette, turned away from the subject of her affection and to turned to the subject of her anger. " As I was sa— "
He tuned out the words from the pink head and the blond, that is not Uzumaki Naruto, his eyes focused overhead to the blond - is Uzumaki Naruto - and the green head. He wondered why she would leave him to the wolves. The Ryū has always sat beside him, eversince he entered the academy and they were assigned seats by their sensei. She was the reason the fan-girls in his class were kept at bay. Nevertheless, it was only in class but it was one less place to be hounded by those girls. A while after thinking of a plan to get the green head to stay put, he got a plan. The following day he would enact his plan.
How he wished he was in his apartment, in his bed, away from the ruckus on both sides. How he wished he could slump his head against the desk.
" Okey, everyone, I want to see that homework tomorrow morning on your desk, completed " Iruka-sensei pointed did to the blond. " Good day everyone and off you go " Iruka-sensei ushered the children out.
" Man, what a long day. "
Outside of the academy, strolling with her hands interlaced behind her head and a purple head by her side, Ayame stared up at the orange pink sky. " How was class? You miss me? " Ayame giggled. The purple head rolled her eyes at her friend. " No, I didn't miss you " said the purple head in a blank tone. The green head folded her arms over her chest and pouted
" Now that was mean, Kana. There was no reason to be
mean. " Kana chuckled and slapped the back of her green haired friend. Ayame let out a nervous laugh at the sudden pain from the hard slap on the back. If Kana had hit any harder, the Ryū's heart would be knocked out of her chest.
" I'm just messing with ya! Don't look so serious! " Kana tapped her shoulder in reassurance. " Y-Yeah " the green head laughed sheepishly. Man! What does okāsan feed her that makes her super strong? The green head wondered, racking curious eyes at her friend.
" Can I stay at your house, j-just for a little bit? It's not a sleepover, so okāsan doesn't have to worry! " Ayame assured. " Sure, okey " Kana shrugged. She chuckled " The last time you just stayed over, she grounded me for two weeks! " Kana laughed. " Again, I'm really sorry, Kana " the green head smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of her neck. " No worries, Ayame! " Kana wrapped an arm around her friend's shoulders " If you wanna have a sleepover, please tell me beforehand, so I can tell Ha-Ha. " The green head giggled and a satisfied sigh left her lips.
