Goliath Smash
Chapter One
The news of a baby being able to emit light from her body spread like wildfire as the first physical documentation of a Quirk was taken in Qing Qing City, China. Ever since, these 'superpowers' have been discovered all over the world and as time passed, no one has been able to identify nor agree upon the cause. Before our very eyes, the unimaginable became normality and dreams became reality. We now lived in a superhuman society, where it is believed that eighty percent of the world's population now held some form of a Quirk.
Because of these Quirks, a profession only thought to belong in the stories of children sprung into the spotlight.
Heroes.
And that's what I aim to be.
My name is Yukio Tantariichi and I live in Musutafu, Japan with my mother.
We haven't always lived in Musutafu, but she decided to relocate us after an incident occurred when my Quirk manifested.
My Quirk, which I have dubbed Two-Face, manifested when I was three years old. A group of kids, some the same age and the rest older, decided to gang up on me because they thought I was Quirkless, being the only one left in my class to not show any signs of obtaining a precious Quirk. That's when Goliath, as he likes to call himself, was born. The school I went to was nearly obliterated, and most of the children that were picking on me were sent to the ICU. I don't remember what happened, but Goliath went on a rampage until only one person could stop him.
Oddly enough, it was my mother.
Goliath calls her 'the Peace.'
The school was closed for obvious reasons, and after the entire fiasco, I was placed on the Government's Watchlist for dangerous Quirks. For every week that followed, I had to be evaluated by a government official and quirk specialist. They believed that if I were to go 'unchecked' for too long, I had the makings to become the perfect villain. On top of that, every school that my mother attempted to enroll me in had to be notified of the risks of my quirk. Every time I was rejected they said I 'didn't meet the proper requirements,' but she knew otherwise.
We were ostracized by the population, the people my mom once called friends, and the people my father died protecting.
So, we moved, and I've been homeschooled ever since.
"Mom!" I called to her. "I'm getting ready to head out!"
"Hold on!" She called back from somewhere in the house. "Don't you dare leave without giving me a hug!"
I sighed but smiled.
Ever the weak one, puny Yuki.
I wasn't talking to you.
"Something the matter, my son?" Mother asked, concerned.
"Nope," I shook my head. "Just the big guy."
"Well, you tell Goliath to keep his thoughts to himself." She wrapped me in her arms.
"Easier said than done, mom," I laughed and hugged her back. "After all, he only seems to listen to you."
The Peace protects the puny ones from being smashed, you should be glad.
Or perhaps you shouldn't want to smash everything, huh?
Goliath not smash? No such thing.
"Perhaps you two will get along someday," she ruffled my hair. "But you better get going, wouldn't want to be late for the practical exam, ne?"
"Of course not!" I beamed and opened the door. "Goodbye mom, I love you!"
"I love you, Yukio!" She followed me out the door. "Good luck!"
-|SMASHING|-
I walked up to the massive building and read the sign sitting outside its imposing gates.
U.A. High School Practical Examination Site
"This is it," I said to no one in particular before entering the school.
There were a plethora of students walking around the exterior and interior of the building, some of them were checking in at the desk, standing around idly chatting, and entering the rooms that could change the course of their lives forever.
I approached the check-in desk, where current U.A. students were handing out the examinee information packets.
"Hello!" The seated student greeted me cheerfully. "What's your name?"
"Yukio Tantariichi, senpai," I responded curtly.
"Senpai?" He smiled while leafing through the names. "You can call me that once you pass the exams."
I could smash him right now.
"I have full confidence that I will be accepted into U.A.'s Hero course."
"Hero course? Well then, in that case, Tantariichi-kun," he smiled at me brightly before handing me my papers. "If you ever see me in the halls, I expect you to call me Togata-senpai!"
"Will do!" I took the papers from him and nodded politely. "See you then, Togata-senpai!"
He waved me off exuberantly, and I walked confidently towards the room marked for the U.A. Department of Heroes Orientation.
Once inside the doors, I quickly scanned the room and took a seat next to a girl with short brown hair.
"Oh, hello!" She smiled politely at me.
"H-hi!" I smiled back.
Oh gosh, why am I so nervous? H-hi? What kind of greeting was that?
"Nervous?" She asked with a tilt of her head. "Me too!"
"Ah, I suppose," I rubbed the back of my neck.
Though I suppose it doesn't help that you're one of the first girls I've spoken to other than my mom.
The girl's eyes widened before she covered her mouth, attempting not to laugh.
"I—I!" I could feel my heart jumping into my throat. "I said that out loud, didn't I?"
She quickly nodded her head, trying to catch her breath.
Going to make fun of me yet, Goliath? You're being oddly quiet through this.
His voice remained silent.
Odd.
"I've never heard someone say something so funny!" She chuckled once more and offered her hand to me. "My name's Ochaco Uraraka, by the way. It's nice to meet you!"
"The name's Yukio Tantariichi," I gently took her hand and shook it. "I'm glad I could offer you this afternoon's entertainment."
She stared at me before almost laughing out loud again.
I felt my cheeks heat up profusely.
Why am I such an idiot?
"To all you young and aspiring examinee listeners out there," the Voice Hero: Present Mic started the exam orientation from center stage, saving a little bit of my dignity. "Welcome to my show! Everyone, say 'hey!'"
Present Mic gestured to listen for any responses but received zero.
Goliath wants to smash him.
Where have you been? And no, you can't smash him.
"Such a dignified response," he shrugged at the crowd. "I'll quickly give you listeners a rundown of the practical exam. Are! You! Ready?! Yeah!"
There was once again an awkward silence.
Goliath cannot smash just a little bit?
No. Stop asking, you're distracting me.
Puny Yuki cannot tell Goliath what to do.
I ignored his last comment.
"As it said on your applications," the Hero continued his speech. "You listeners will be taking part in a ten-minute mock battle after this orientation, and you can bring whatever you want with you! You're all assigned to designated battle centers, as shown on your examinee ticket, and will head there after this."
Where will we be smashing?
Battle Center B, and you will only smash when I say so!
Uraraka showed me her own ticket, which also showed Battle Center B and gave me a thumbs up.
"Three different kinds of fake villains will appear around the battle center," the screen lit up behind Present Mic. "You'll earn points depending on their level of difficulty. Your goal, my sweet little listeners, is to use your Quirks to immobilize these villains in order to earn as many points as possible! And of course, any unheroic actions are prohibited and can lead to your disqualification."
"Excuse me, sir!" Another student quickly stood and raised his hand. "I would like to ask a question, if I may!"
Present Mic gave him the go-ahead and a stage light illuminated his person.
"On this printout here," he lifted his pamphlet and pointed to it. "It lists four different kinds of villains. I, and my fellow examinees, are in this place because we wish to be molded into spectacular heroes! Is this a misprint? If so, U.A., the most prominent and illustrious school in Japan, should feel foolish of this mistake!"
I sighed internally.
Smash?
No.
"In addition," the student continued his rant by pointing to another student behind him. "You, with the curly hair. You have not stopped muttering this entire time, do you not know that it's distracting? If you're here for some kind of fantasy show, you should leave at once!"
"Okay, okay, examinee 7111," Present Mic took back the attention of the room. "Thank you for the, uh, great message! The fourth type of villain is worth zero points! There is one in every battle center, and he's more of an obstacle than anything else. In my opinion, you should all avoid the zero-pointer as much as possible!"
"Thank you for explaining! Please excuse my interruption!" The tan-suit kid bowed before sitting back down.
"It's like avoiding a danger in a video game then?" I heard a student whisper to another beside Uraraka.
"This whole thing sounds like a video game," the second responded to him.
"So, that's it from me," I stopped listening to the two's conversation and tuned back to Present Mic. "In closing, I will give you baby listeners a little treat—our school motto! The once classic hero, Napoleon Bonaparte once said, 'A true and admirable hero is someone who can overcome life's misfortunes.' So, Go Beyond! Plus Ultra! Now go, and good luck in your suffering!"
"Tantariichi-kun!" I looked over at Uraraka who balled her fist. "Let's do our best!"
"Good luck, Uraraka!"
-|SMASHING|-
We were allotted a short amount of time to change before being shuttled off to our battle centers.
I stood next to Uraraka and looked at the students around us, and instantly recognized the boy who wore the tan suit admonishing the curly-haired kid once again.
"That's the guy that almost tripped near the entrance, right?" Someone in front of us asked.
"The one that winced after being addressed during the orientation."
"Well, now we all know that we have one less rival to worry about then, huh?"
He looks like a nervous wreck, but my instincts tell me there's more to him than that.
Goliath could smash him easily.
Yes, yes. Your answer to anything.
The gate ahead of us began to open, and I nudged Uraraka to bring it to her attention.
"Okay, start!" Present Mic shouted and I charged ahead, waiting for no countdown. "Aha, look at him go! Well, what's the matter with the rest of you?! There isn't a countdown in real life! Run, run! Time has already started ticking, you know!"
Upon entering the gate, I quickly took a left and found myself being surrounded by three one-pointers.
You need Goliath to smash.
I can do this without you. I've trained for it!
Your puny sticks do not compete with smash.
My tanbō work just fine, thank you!
After my Quirk manifested, it was quickly discovered that I became more prone to angry outbursts, and doing so could easily trigger my transformation into Goliath. My mother decided that it would be best if I learned something that could help control the anger. So, after we moved to Musutafu, I was enrolled in jujitsu classes where I learned to also dual wield the tanbō.
I removed my tanbō from their outer-thigh holsters and leaped into action. The robots, I quickly discovered, had very weak joints that made them very simple to destroy with precise strikes.
The mock battle was going pretty well, all things considered, and I quickly racked up point after point. That is, until I was hit in the head by debris caused by someone else's takedown.
"Hehe, sorry about that!" Some guy with red hair shouted. "But perhaps you should stay out of the way!"
Through the years, I've learned to get a better handle of Goliath, especially with the emotional control I've learned due to jujitsu. But in the middle of a battle, with the adrenaline coursing through my veins? I've still found it difficult to keep him at bay.
I strapped my tanbō back into their holsters and grasped my head as I felt the transformation starting to take place.
"S-smash. Smash. Smash. SMASH!"
Firmly placed in the backseat of my sub-conscious, all I could do was watch as Goliath finally got to go on a rampage.
"Goliath smash!" He swung his giant orange fist through the chest of a three-pointer, barely missing the other student that hit me.
Don't hurt any of the other students!
"Goliath will SMASH, the puny metal." He replied to me out loud, ripping another robot in half. "Puny humans will only get hurt if they get in way."
I sighed internally. It wasn't a guarantee, but at least him purposefully hurting the other students was one less thing I had to worry about. I kept watching as Goliath smashed his way through a building.
We need to work on your damage control!
"Buildings are weak," he grunted. "Cannot handle Goliath."
He continued to smash robot after robot until a rumbling was felt through the ground. A giant robot that looked like the zero-pointer from the pamphlet, swung its giant fist and caused rubble to go flying through the air. I watched through Goliath's eyes as many of the students began to run in fear.
"Look, as the puny ones flee in fear!" Goliath teased them.
"O-ow," Goliath turned his head and gave pause as he looked upon Ochaco Uraraka stuck beneath the rubble.
Uraraka! Her legs are trapped beneath the rubble! Goliath, you have to do something!
Goliath looked between Uraraka and the gigantic robot a few times before letting out a bestial roar.
"GOLIATH SMASH!"
He launched through the air and rocketed towards the threat.
"SMMMMMAAAAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHHH!"
Surprisingly, Goliath was met mid-air by the curly-haired kid, and together they punched the head of the beast.
The difference between the two, though, was that Goliath was flying forward with such strong force that he blasted right through the robot and crashed onto the ground below it. He let out another roar as the construct started to fall back, and leaped into the air as explosions began to wrack its metal body.
Goliath, it's destroyed! We need to go see if the other two are okay!
He ignored my voice and savagely started to rip metal chunks off the zero-pointer until it crashed onto the ground, giving off one final explosion.
It's destroyed! Leave it!
"Peace was…was hurt. Goliath had to protect."
Peace? Goliath, what are you talking about?
I was ignored once again as Goliath looked back to where Uraraka was previously trapped, and jumped. He landed between the girl and the curly-haired kid just as our time limit was being called.
"Time's up!" Present Mic's voice was heard through the area. "The entrance exam has come to a close!"
Goliath huffed and turned to look at Uraraka, it appeared that she was able to get herself out of the rubble as she was now lying atop a destroyed villain. She lifted her head, looking at Goliath through a lidded gaze.
"Th-thank you," she whispered before closing her eyes.
I felt the transformation begin to waver as Goliath stumbled on his walk towards Uraraka, he slowly reached out his hand before he collapsed on the rubble before her.
Oh, I see.
I turned onto my back and blinked up at the sky.
You like her too, don't you?
Goliath did not answer.

Goliath is going to be my take on (with some additions) a specific "superhero," from a specific "comic series," being a transformation Quirk. Ochaco is also my favorite cinnamon roll, so she will be in the spotlight as well. Yukio will also be in class 1-A, and I have yet to decide if I'm going to remove another student or play at odds with an odd-numbered class.
As a writer, I like to accept all kinds of ideas, thoughts, or criticisms, and I will politely respond to any reviews or PMs sent. Please note though, that while I am open to the idea, any overly toxic or meaningless comments will be ignored. Don't waste your time, and don't waste my time.
Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this story.
Until next time!
