The Hall of Origins is a magnificent space. With walls of marble and brass, towering columns, and with enough space for the legendary pokemon, it is here where Arceus can be found. This is where he meets with the other Legendary Pokémon, and in today's case, it's where he meets with Mew.

"Hello, Mew," the creator intoned.

"Yes Arcy~," Mew playfully replied.

"Firstly, this will be the six hundred and seventy third time I have asked you to stop calling me Arcy. Secondly, I'm going to need you to keep an eye on the Chosen One." He requested.

"The Chosen One?" She asked. "Who is that?"

Arceus sighed. Dealing with Mew was really a handful, at times. She was really useful, though, if you could get her to listen to you.

"Please listen, because I don't want to explain this twice. Or three times, for that matter." Arceus activated his mind plate, and created a projection facing Mew. This projection showed Ash Ketchum in Pallet Town, wandering near the edge of the local forest, picking pecha berries. "Ash Ketchum is possibly the most important human being - to me personally, to us as legendaries, and to the world of Pokémon. His job will be to bring the world of humans and Pokémon together and promote peace and cooperation between humans and Pokémom. As you may or may not know, there are Pokémon that object to cooperation with humans, and there are groups of humans that try to capture Pokémon for power. Ash's job will be to convince both humans and Pokémon that it is better to cooperate, for the sake of the world. To do that, he'll need to be powerful, and it is for that reason that some humans may try to take his pokemon, capture him, or even kill him. That is why I want you to keep an eye on him - if things go south, let me know and I will try to intervene. Remember, watch him from afar, and don't reveal yourself to him"

"You got it!" Mew nonchalantly replied. She flew out of the hall, to Arceus-knows-where. Scratch that, even Arceus doesn't know.

Arceus sighed once again. "Hopefully she doesn't get into too much trouble…"

Back at the Tree of the Beginning, Mew was levitating around, trying to determine how to keep an eye on Ash. After several hours of levitating around the Tree, she finally had an idea.

"That's what I'll do! I'll transform into a Pokémon and watch Ash from by his side, but he won't know it's me!"

Mew flew off into the night, heading toward a certain Pallet Town.

Knock. Knock.

"Alright, alright, I'm getting up!"

Professor Oak stumbled out of bed, down the hallway, and to his front door.

Knock. Knock.

"Give me a minute! I'm getting-" Professor Oak opened the door, and to his shock, there was an Eevee, almost certainly unconscious, bleeding from the ribs, as if a Houndoom had bit it.

"By the gods!" Professor Oak, sleep vanishing from his eyes in an instant, picked up the Eevee, and took it to the Pokémon Recovery Machine. He laid it down on the stretcher, and placed the stretcher inside of the machine. After scanning it, he took the Eevee, on the stretcher, outside of the machine, and prepared several ice packs, and a tensor bandage, wrapping the bandage around the Eevee's chest. Once the bandage was fully wrapped, he applied the ice packs to its chest. In total, the professor spent an hour making sure that the bleeding had stopped before returning to bed.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Professor Oak dragged himself out of bed, tired after last night's ordeal. Wiping the sleep from his eyes, he walked into the main lab area, briefly pausing to check on the Eevee. It was now sleeping, and the wounds seemed to not be bleeding, which was a good sign. He found his way to the door and opened it to find Ash there, smiling up at him.

"Hi Professor! How was your day so far?" Ash asked.

"Oh, it was pretty good." Oak responded. Seeing Ash's gaze drift to the Eevee, he explained.

"I was woken up at around midnight by someone or something knocking on the door. I opened the door, and found this Eevee lying outside of the lab, unconscious and bleeding, so I had to save it. It's resting right now, but it should be ok.

"Wow, good job Professor!" Ash declared.

Professor Oak sweatdropped, and accepted Ash's praise graciously. That was the moment when the Eevee woke up, and upon seeing Ash, jumped off the counter and ran to nuzzle Ash. He laughed and picked up Eevee, and Eevee responded by licking Ash's face.

"Hahaha, Eevee is so cute!" Ash exclaimed.

"Well, I'm glad you think so!" Professor Oak responded. Truth be told, he was quite busy, and it would be a great experience for a trainer to take care of Eevee, and they'd learn how to take care of injured pokemon. Of course, it would have to be someone he could trust, but that got him thinking…

"So, Professor Oak, can I see the starters?"

"Of course, my boy, you are welcome to!"

The professor took Ash into the back of the lab, paused to grab 3 pokéballs, and went outside, to the ranch. In the back of the lab, Oak had created an area with lots of space, and artificial biomes to suit a variety of pokemon. Oak used the pokéballs to recall three pokémon, and then let them out again, one at a time. First was an orange, lizard-like pokémon with a flame on its tail.

"This is Charmander, the fire type starter. Charmanders are known to be somewhat temperamental, but respect power, and their final evolution is Charizard."

Professor Oak next released a small, green, dinosaur-like pokémon with a bulb on its back.

"This is Bulbasaur, the grass type starter. Bulbasaurs are generally known to be compassionate and kind, and their final evolution is Venasaur."

Finally, Professor Oak released a blue turtle, with a brown shell.

"This is Squirtle, the water type starter. Squirtles tend to be slightly mischievous, but in battle, they are a force to be reckoned with. Once fully evolved, Blastoise hold immense power in their twin cannons, capable of moves such as Hydro Cannon."

"Thanks so much for showing me all of the starters, Professor Oak!"

"No problem my boy! Let me give you some additional advice: I've heard that there will be four trainers including you tomorrow, so don't be late, and you'll have nothing to worry about."

"Sounds good Professor! The only reason I'll be late is if a Mew prevents my alarm clock from going off in the morning!"

"Well then, you should have nothing to worry about as Mew hasn't been seen in centuries. I'll see you tomorrow, then!"

"Okay! Bye Professor!"

Ash ran out the door, waving over his shoulder. Professor Oak waved back, before returning to check on the Eevee. Its condition had improved significantly, which was surprising to him. But he took it as good luck, and began preparing for the day tomorrow.

It was late evening, and Professor Oak was heading off to sleep. He checked one last time on the Eevee, noting its condition had improved significantly. He headed down the hallway to his bedroom, and, exhausted from the events of the day and last night, collapsed in his bed. Eevee, after hearing this, started glowing, and shifted into a Mew.

"I wonder where he could be…" Mew mumbled, trailing off.

After a second, she used her psychic powers to search for human lifeforms. She flew between houses, looking for Ash Ketchum, and she found him, fast asleep, with an alarm clock on his nightstand.

"Hmm, I've got to fix this! Don't want him getting a normal starter tomorrow!" Mew giggled as she unplugged the alarm clock, turning it off so he wouldn't wake up on time tomorrow. Mischief managed, she flew back to the lab, transformed back into an Eevee, and reapplied the bandages, after making sure her Eevee form was completely healed. It took her awhile to get to sleep, due to her excitement, but she was finally able to fall asleep.

The next morning, Ash Ketchum was sleeping peacefully. For all of 10 seconds. He suddenly woke up, blinked once or twice, looked around the room, and after noticing how bright it was, and the lack of alarm, looked at his clock. After seeing it was off, he checked the cord, and sure enough, it was unplugged.

"Oh goodness, I'm going to be late!"

He ran downstairs, still in his pyjamas, and checked the clock in the kitchen. Sure enough, he was late.

"Would you look at the time! I thought you were planning to wake up early!" Delia, Ash's mother, was standing in the doorway as she scolded him.

"But… I did set my alarm. Somehow it came unplugged during the night." Ash tried to explain to his mother, but she didn't believe him.

"That sounds like an excuse to me…" Delia started, sighed, and then changed her mind. "Come here."

Ash did so, and she hugged him. "I'm sorry for arguing with you today, especially considering the fact that you're leaving for your pokémon journey."

"Don't worry about it," he responded.

"Well since you're up so late, breakfast is ready, and don't worry about washing up. I don't want you to miss your starter!"

"Thanks, Mom!"

Ash quickly scarfed down the bacon, eggs, toast, and fruit bowl his mother had prepared for him, gave his mother another hug, and ran out the door, trying to make it to the lab in time.

Ash ran to the Lab, as quick as he could, only to see Gary waiting outside of the Lab, waiting for him.

"Heya, Ashy-boy, what took you so long? Did a Mew mess with your alarm clock?" Gary laughed at his own joke.

"What starter did you get, Gary?" Ash politely asked.

"Oh, the best one, of course," Gary answered snarkily, spinning the pokéball on his finger. "It's too bad that you're so late. I guess I don't have a rival anymore~."

Gary pocketed the pokeball and walked off. "Smell ya later, Ashy-boy!"

Ash sighed, and walked into the lab, looking for Professor Oak.

"Oh hello there Ash!" Greeted Professor Oak.

"Hi Professor, I heard from Gary that all of the starters were gone. Is that true?" Ash requested.

At hearing that, Oak's face fell. "I'm… really sorry, Ash…"

Ash, expecting this, quickly asked, "Well is there another pokémon that I could have as a starter?"

Professor Oak swallowed. "I'm really sorry, but I don't. I wish I did…"

Ash looked crestfallen. The Eevee, after seeing Ash's face, jumped down onto the floor, walked over to Ash, and jumped into his arms. Ash seemed to cheer up, and with that, Oak had an idea. He got his Alakazam to telepathically ask the Eevee whether it wanted to go with Ash, and his Alakazam said that the Eevee wanted to go with Ash.

Oak cleared his throat, and said to Ash, "I do have a solution. This Eevee seems to like you and would like to travel with you, and was wondering if that would be ok."

Ash, after hearing this, exclaimed, "Thank you so much Professor Oak! I can't believe that you're letting me do this! Thank you!"

Oak chuckled, and replied, "No problem. I think that you can handle Eevee responsibly, and Eevee really wants to come with you. Now, here is your Pokédex. It's basically an encyclopedia on Pokémon, identification, GPS, and many other features rolled into a single device. Also, take these 5 pokéballs. They will allow you to capture other pokémon to add to your team. You will also need to capture Eevee in a pokéball, so that Eevee can be registered to you, and so that Eevee can't be captured by another trainer."

Ash walked over to Eevee, with the pokéball in his hand.

"Hi Eevee, I'm Ash Ketchum, your trainer, and this is a pokéball. If you want to come with me, I'll need to catch you-," Eevee walked up to the pokéball and tapped the button with its nose, releasing a beam of light that hit Eevee and pulled it into the pokéball. The pokéball dinged once, signifying that the capture was complete. Ash picked up the pokéball and pressed the center button, releasing Eevee, who jumped onto Ash's shoulder.

"Well, after seeing how well that went, I'm sure you'll have a legendary future as a pokémon trainer!" Professor Oak exclaimed. "Now then, it's time for you to show the world what you're made of!"

"Thanks for all of your help, Professor!" Ash replied, as he set out on his pokémon journey.

"Eevee vee!" Eevee exclaimed.

Ash chuckled, gave Eevee a pat on the head, and headed south to Route 1.

Arceus was having a reasonably pleasant day, somehow, when he got a mental message from Mew.

'Arcy, we're heading south!'

Worried, Arceus used his Mind Plate to check on Ash. He was fine, just walking toward Route 1. After realizing something, Arceus checked what direction Ash was walking, and sure enough, it was south. He mentally facepalmed, and telepathed back, 'Firstly, this is the six hundred and seventy fourth time I have requested that you stop calling me Arcy. Also, when I said south, I didn't mean literally south. I meant when things were going badly, and not in a gym battle, or something similar. I meant if Ash was being attacked by either humans or pokémon.'

'Sounds good, Arcy~,' Mew telepathed back.

Arceus sighed.
