This is my first attempt at writing. Feel free to be harsh, it only makes me try harder.
It was 5:33 when Olivia looked up from her pile of paperwork to 3 months pregnant Amanda standing in the doorway to her office.
"Hey," Liv said, removing her thick black rimmed glasses from her face.
"Hey Liv, there's a woman here who's asking for you. She says her name is Alex. She's tall and blon-"
"Blonde. I know. Send her in." While Amanda walked out of Olivia's office to get the woman, Liv took the time to quickly organize the messy desk and fix her shoulder length, wavy brown hair. It had a frizz to it like in Oregon. Liv looked over to the door to see Alex standing there looking at her.
"Oh My God. Alexandra Cabot. I've missed you so much." Liv says as she embraces the blonde near the door, taking in a big whiff of her floral perfume. Once the hug ended Alex began taking off her beige knee-length coat. Liv stepped behind the woman helping her take off the jacket. "Please sit." Olivia hangs the coat up and shuts the door. "Did you like Amanda?"
"Actually no, she was quite moody." Alex joked.
"She's pregnant give her a break!"
Olivia watched as Alex picked up a photo of Noah that was on her desk. "So this is your son. Wow! Is he Cassidy's or even better, Elliot's?"
"No, no that's Noah and he's adopted. He just turned 6 last month."
"That's amazing Liv." Then pauses while still looking at the photo and says in a barely audible voice "You're amazing."
"So how are you?..." Olivia pauses, "Alex?"
"I'm fine Liv. How are you?" Alex sets down the photo and looks up.
"I would be a lot better if you had said goodbye. I still hurt because of it."
"Liv I'm sorry. I had to move on."
"But you could have said goodbye." Alex begins picking at her nails anxiously.
"I know but, I was nervous. I- I was scared you were going to get mad at me for leaving. So I left without saying goodbye. A quick cut off from everything."
"Is that really what you think of me? That you can just leave me and I wouldn't be hurt? Alex you were my best friend. My whole world and you left me just like that, and I didn't get a goodbye. It wasn't fair. You could have told me. I would have understood."
"Liv, the reason I came here wasn't to upset you, or bring up the past. I came here to tell you what happened once I returned to New York about 2 months ago."
"Okay... I'm listening."
"I ran into an old friend and we went out for drinks. The next morning I was in a bedroom I didn't know with all of my clothes off and blood all over me." Alex stood up and took off her suit jacket to show Olivia what happened. Her arms were purple and brown from bruising. With cuts and old needle marks all over. "It was worse than this..."
Olivia stood up from behind her desk and walked up to Alex and moved the hair off of Alex's cheek. "Alex. What did they do to you? You poor thing. Does it hurt?" Olivia ran her left hand over Alex's arm and brushed Alex's cheek with the back of her right hand. Alex leaned into Liv's hand.
"It doesn't hurt anymore unless you press hard. Liv I don't know what they did to me..."
"You don't remember... Okay, Well, do you think you were sexually assaulted?"
"I'm late. Really late Liv. I was supposed to get my period on the second day they had me and I didn't. Then a few days later, three I think, I still didn't. So I'm assuming I was. I'm really scared Liv." Alex walks over to the couch placed in the corner of the room and sits, putting her head in her hands. Olivia walks over to her and rubs her back for a second. She puts her arms around her and pulls her against her body. Alex's face was pressed against Olivia's plump chest. Olivia puts her right hand on the left side of Alex's head pulling her closer. She kisses the top of Alex's soft head, her hair smells so good.
"It's okay. Now take some deep breaths and relax. I'm gonna go get a pregnancy test because I'm assuming you didn't."
"But the only close drug store is a block away-"
"Amanda has a few in her desk. And you better not try to leave because I will hunt you down and get you." Olivia laughs and stands up starting to walking towards the door.
"Liv, before you go to get the test for me, did you ever try to look for me?"
"Of course. I tracked your social media but there was nothing. I tried, I really did."
"Well if you couldn't find me once for 7 years, I doubt you'll find me again." says Alex with a wide grin across her face.
"You know you wouldn't leave me here. You love getting justice so if you don't, you'll be uneasy forever. And you can't say I'm wrong."
"You aren't wrong!"
The two women laugh for a few seconds, then Olivia walks out the door. Alex gets up and goes over to Liv's desk and sees a picture of her and Liv from the 1st day they met. Alex tears up. She opens the top left drawer and finds a picture of Olivia and Ed Tucker in Paris. "She looks so happy." Alex thinks to herself. She quickly looks the picture over one last time and puts it back in the drawer. She walks from out behind the desk seconds before Olivia walks back in with the test in her hand.
"Hey!" Olivia says in a chirpy tone. "Amanda kept asking if the test was for me, so I'm sorry but I had to tell her it was for you so she'd leave me alone." Liv lowers her head slightly, smirking.
"It's all good here, she doesn't even know who I am so it doesn't matter."
"Alright then. There's a bathroom down the hall if you'd like to, ah you know, pee on the stick. Stop laughing, I'm just trying to lighten the mood a bit."
"You sound ridiculous." Alex says laughing.
"Take it. Now I'm being serious. A baby isn't a joke, now go."
Alex takes the test from Olivia's hand and starts for the door. "Where is it?"
"Here follow me." Olivia steps in front of Alex and walks her down the hall to the restroom. "There we go. I'll wait out here to give you some privacy."
"Could you just come in?" She looks down at Olivia's feet ashamed.
"Of course, it's no problem!"
They both go into the restroom and Alex gets into the stall. After about a minute there was no sound of Alex going pee but, Olivia heard sniffing. "Alex? You okay in there?" Alex opens the stall door, her face pink and mascara smudged. "Come here, you're alright. It's okay." Alex leans forward into Olivia's arms for a short period of time which felt like forever. "Now you're going to get back into that stall pee on the stick and find out if you're pregnant or not. Not that hard."
"How would you know? You've never been pregnant before, nor tried to either." Olivia steps back a few feet from Alex with tears in her eyes.
"Liv, I didn't mean it like that… I'm sorry…"
"I know. I didn't try. There's still a little bit of time to try, but I've already got Noah. Plus I'm too busy to have a baby. It just wouldn't work. While you on the other hand have time to have a family. Me, I'm on call all the time. It just would not work." Alex nods her head in agreement. "Come on," Liv whines. "I wanna know if there's a mini-Alex in there. Let's go, chop chop."
Don't worry, eventually I will bring Tucker back up. I'm sorry if I'm moving to fast, but I'm the type of writer who skims over the extra stuff and skips to the good stuff. Review!
