What was missing?
Nate's POV
"Nate Tajiri, it is such a pleasure to be given the opportunity to interview you here in Driftveil city!" a reporter exclaimed.
"Yeah it's fine, you politely asked anyway," I said forcing a smile onto my face.
"You are such a remarkable trainer. There are so many achievements in your life that are worth mentioning. You put a stop to Team Plasma's evil plans, became the Pokemon League Champion, defeated Red and became the winner at the Champion's tournament, made it to the top of Black Tower, and also not to mention your renowned acting career."
"Yeah, I guess so," I laughed awkwardly.
"Wow, so modest. It's surprising to see how down to earth you are as a person. Is there any specific reason you are currently in Driftveil City," she questioned.
I was starting to lose interest now. I hated doing interviews, and it was just something that I never managed to appreciate.
"No, not really, I was just passing through," I stated politely.
"Oh ok then, thank you for taking the time and answering my questions. It was fun, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day."
"Yeah, you too," I replied.
I waved at her and began walking away. My thoughts drifted away from reality and began to ponder. Even though I had so many things that others could only imagine, I was not happy. I felt empty as if something was missing in my life. I did not know what this feeling was, but it continued to torment me day after day. I shook my head, coming back to my senses. I needed to relax a bit to clear my mind, so I called out my Unfezant and flew to Nimbasa City. It was a pretty short ride considering they were neighboring cities. When I reached my destination, I landed in front of the Pokemon Center and returned my Unfezant. I reached for my bag and pulled out a hoodie. It was matte black and had a picture of a Samurott on it. I slipped it on and placed the hood on my head to conceal my identity. I began walking towards the Ferris wheel in the amusement park. When I reached the said area, I noticed the operator standing next to the ride. He was staring off into space looking extremely bored.
"Hey, one ticket for the Ferris Wheel attraction," I said to him, getting out my money.
"This is a 2 person ride. Since you are alone, you can't get on. Now get lost, he replied sharply.
I was disappointed because I wanted to relax for a bit. I liked riding the Ferris wheel because it helped eliminate all of the stress in my day. My best friend Hugh and I would often ride on it together to kill time. Although, this was the first time I had a chance to ride on the Ferris wheel after becoming champion. "I would really appreciate it if I could get one ticket please," I asked him again, as I removed the hood off of my head. His eyes went wide as he realized who was standing before him.
"Holy shit, it's Nate Tajiri! I'm so sorry, I did not know it was you talking to me," he apologized. I held a finger to my mouth, indicating him to keep quiet that I was present at the amusement park.
"Here you go," he smiled while granting me a ticket and access to sit in the cab shaped like a Pokeball. I handed him the money and thanked him as I walked in.
I sighed as I sat down on the bench and leaned my head back. The Ferris wheel had begun to move, and the cab was lifted into the air. I had to admit, being a celebrity did have a lot of advantages, such as cutting lines and being granted VIP access at almost every location. At first, I enjoyed the attention I received. It was great to have giant groups of people crowding around me wanting a picture or autograph. But as time passed, I began to despise the popularity I had. People only wanted to talk to me because of my reputation and social standing. I felt that they didn't care about my feelings or me as a person. Everyone only cared about me due to my achievements. Nothing was interesting about who I was to these people.
My parents had passed away when I was really young, so I did not remember them even a small bit. I lived with my aunt and uncle for most of my life. Although they provided for me by giving me food and shelter, I did not feel any special connection to them. Of course my aunt and uncle were nice to me, but they did not give me the love and affection that I yearned for. It felt like I was a guest living in their house. While living with them, I met Hugh. He was a very upbeat and extroverted kid who could talk to anyone. Although he was obnoxious and loud at times, Hugh was a very understanding and caring person who thought of others before himself.
I quickly became extremely good friends with him. I felt that he was the only person in my life who appreciated me for who I was. Hugh took the time to understand who I am, and genuinely enjoyed spending time with me. To this day, I still consider him my best friend. Hugh and I both started our Pokemon journey at the same time. We shared so many experiences like battling Team Plasma and taking on the gyms. Unfortunately, Hugh had decided to travel to the Kalos region after I defeated him at Victory Road. He wanted to visit and experience different regions. Of course, I was extremely happy for him because he had found something he wanted to do. Although, after he left, I felt this emptiness inside of me that continued to linger no matter what I did. At first, we communicated a lot on the Xtransceiver, but eventually we talked less and less and began to drift apart.
I grew extremely busy with defending my champion title and acting. I was sure he was busy as well. Day after day, I battled numerous trainers attempting to become the champion. I crushed them all without showing any mercy when I battled. I also had to shoot daily scenes for a film I was acting in at Pokestar studios. It would be extremely late by the time I got home, and I would be too exhausted to do anything but sleep. This was my life every single day, and to be frank I was getting sick of it. Although, I do enjoy living in my house. I stay at an enormous villa near the Pokemon League that I received for becoming the champion. I also constantly obtained an exorbitant amount of money from challenge matches and my acting career. But money wasn't essential to me nor something I desired in my life.
I looked out the window of the cab, and the sun had begun to set. The view was breathtaking when it reached the top of the Ferris wheel. I could see the entirety of Nimbasa City from this point, and it was simply amazing, especially in the evening time with all the lights. I looked down and saw many couples holding hands and walking with each other. I felt a pang of jealousy rise up inside of me. I disliked seeing people so in love. I felt that it was unfair that I was always alone. I then realized what this empty feeling that resided within me was. It was loneliness. I felt so isolated from everyone else. People always put me up on a pedestal as if I wasn't a person just like them. Especially with Hugh gone, there was now no one who understood my thoughts and feelings. I knew I could easily find a date due to my popularity and looks. But these girls wouldn't be interested in me because of my personality, but rather because I am a celebrity. I wanted to find a girl who could truly understand me and love me for who I am.
This feeling was very unusual to me. When I was on my Pokemon journey, I didn't even take a second to think about love. I was so focused on making a name for myself and becoming the best Pokemon Trainer in the Unova region. I had finally achieved that goal and got the recognition that I desired. Not long after, I realized this wasn't what I wanted. I became further isolated after I became Champion. What I craved for was to have someone's company. Someone who could spend time and appreciate me. Someone who I would love with all of my heart.
As the ride had come to an end, the sun had fully set revealing a pitch-black sky. Most of the other attractions were closed down. A full moon shone in the sky, a beautiful source of light illuminating the park. I exited the cab and began to walk out of the amusement park. I noticed something out of the corner of my eye that caught my attention. As I walked towards it, I saw a black and yellow Xtransceiver abandoned laying on the ground. I picked it up and decided to hold on to it in case someone was looking for it. I would try to give it back to the original owner if they called the Xtransceiver. I put it in my pocket and continued walking towards the exit. As I was about to leave, I felt a buzzing in my pocket. I assumed it was the Xtransceiver and pulled it out. Sure enough, it was the one I found rapidly vibrating.
"I wonder if this is the owner," I thought to myself as I answered the mysterious call.
"Hello?"
Author's Notes:
Hey, what's up, guys. This is the first fanfiction that I have ever written. This means that it won't be perfect, because I am not that great of a writer. I will try to improve as I write more of these chapters. I don't know if this story will be too long because I cannot write that much. Writing these fanfictions are a lot harder than they look. I know this chapter was a bit uneventful, but I wanted to establish Nate's character so you could understand his personality and the internal conflict he is going through. Also if you haven't noticed, Nate's last name is a reference to Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of the Pokemon franchise. Anyways, I would really appreciate if you could review this chapter and give me your thoughts. I am open to criticism and ways to improve the story.
Note: (Rated M due to curse words and a lemon chapter that will take place in the future). I do not own this image. Link to original image: transceivershipping/post/37812969181/
I do not own Pokemon nor any of the characters mentioned in this story.
