A/N: I'm really basically in a one-shot making mood lately. My longer stories are on the backburner and that makes me troubled. I really need to get back to them, but I can't figure out how. For now, I bring you this little number. It's a mix of good and bad events for the couple involved, but you'll figure it out. Enjoy!

OOOOOOOOO

A silver haired girl danced out of the reach of Marko and ended up in the arms of Paul, laughing as they teased her playfully for screaming like a kid on one of the rides that they had been on a number of times before. She felt color hit her lightly freckled cheeks and her amber eyes narrowed as she smacked Paul on the shoulder.

"Well, maybe if you hadn't tried knocking me off the ride, Paul, I wouldn't have screamed like that," the girl said with a pout.

"Aw, you got Davie's girl pouting, Paul," Marko commented with a laugh. "He catches you doing that to her, you're going to be in big trouble. Yes, you are."

Paul laughed. "Nah! Janice would never get me in trouble like that!"

Janice adjusted her leather jacket, a gift from David and the Boys, and Paul looked playfully shocked. He put a hand to his heart and stumbled back a few steps.

"I'm hurt, Kitten," he said, grasping at his chest. "So, so hurt."

"You'll live," Janice told him with a purr.

"Ooh, so feisty," Marko said with a grin. "Somebody's got the claws out tonight."

Janice felt a burning stare on her back and turned to see David standing several feet away, Dwayne at his side. The sight of him always took her breath away with his powerful shoulders and his platinum blond hair and piercing blue eyes. All that black leather just helped enhance the sense of danger that came from David already and Janice was drawn towards him like a magnet to metal.

"Janice," David called out softly, flicking his cigarette aside.

The silver haired girl moved slowly towards him and let him put his hand under her chin, tilting her face up to inspect her face, her eyes. He knew the kind of life she lived when he wasn't around and he didn't like it, but there was only so much he could do during the day when he was supposed to be asleep with his brothers. His ice blue eyes lingered on her left cheek for a moment before he brushed his lips against hers, sending electricity coursing through her body.

"Are you having fun on the boardwalk, Kitten?" David asked when he parted from her.

"With them, yes," Janice said, nodding towards Paul and Marko as they danced over. "They've been keeping me company for the last three hours because someone decided not to show up at my door like normal tonight."

"Hint, hint," Marko said, nudging David.

"Cough, cough," Paul laughed, bouncing on the balls of his feet.

"We had a prior engagement," Dwayne explained, giving her an apologetic look as if that would get her to forgive them and move on so easily.

Guess again.

"What did you have to do?" Janice asked, putting her hands on her hips.

David smirked. "You got dressed up tonight. Special occasion?"

Question for question? So, I'm not supposed to know what's going on? Okay then. "No special occasion." Janice told him, shaking her head. "Just felt like throwing this on and going out. Thought you Boys might like it."

"Kitten, I love it," Paul howled, tossing his hair.

"Of course, you do," Dwayne said, rolling his eyes. He offered Janice a small smile. "You look good, Janice. Really, really good."

Janice nodded and looked back at David, who was watching her with studying eyes. "David…"

"Are you having fun tonight, Janice?" David asked, watching her.

"Yes, why?" A sinking feeling hit her gut hard. "David, is something bad going to happen?"

David stood silent and the Boys edged closer, losing their happy smiles, though Paul continued to bounce because he was, well, Paul.

"David, tell me what's going on," Janice ordered.

"If I tell you what is to happen, that will ruin what fun you have left to have tonight," David told her softly. "Is that something you want, little kitten?"

"Or she could cherish the fun she has more," Dwayne commented, sending David a look.

"I'd rather not have a sad kitten," Marko said, shaking his blond head so that his curls bounced.

"I want all the kitten," Paul sang, wiggling his hips and dodging David's fist.

Janice listened to the exchange between the Lost Boys and the words sunk in. "David, you're leaving me?" she whispered, feeling her heart break.

"After tonight, you're not coming back to the boardwalk, Janice," David told her firmly. "You'll never see any of us again and you'll never come to this part of Santa Carla at night again."

"No!" Janice protested, shaking her head.

"Yes," David said, taking a step towards her. "We're not playing games here, little kitten. You're too much of a liability to have in our corner and the stakes are high. You get caught in the game; you lose. Do you want to lose, Janice?"

"I don't want to lose you Boys," Janice told him bitterly.

"Relationships between vampires and humans rarely work out, kitten," Marko pointed out with a pout. "You'll get over us and live better without us."

"Without Davie, I bet," Paul agreed. "Though I'm irreplaceable. Sorry babe."

"You can't keep me from coming back to the boardwalk," Janice argued, crossing her arms over her chest. "Not after tonight. Not ever."

"You'll be surprised the number of things that we can make a human do," David said, leaning into her face.

Janice snapped her teeth at him and he chuckled, but backed off.

"So feisty. I'll miss that about you."

"You won't," Janice told him. "Because I'm not going anywhere." She gave each of them a stern, dark look. "You don't get to tell me that I can't come to the boardwalk because I'm human. You don't get to push me away because I'm a human. And fuck you if you think you can do tell me all of this and get me to agree to it and still expect me to go about tonight like we're all friends. That's a big old fuck you!"

"Temper," Dwayne said, putting his hand on her shoulder. "We're just looking out for you."

"Fuck you," Janice snapped, throwing his hand off her. "Fuck you and the horse that you rode in on." She pointed her finger up in his handsome face. "You don't get to tell me what to do."

"Wrong," David said, grabbing her wrist and lowering her hand as he pulled her to him. "We get to tell you exactly what to do. And we're telling you that we're not babysitting you when the other vampires come to play rough with us. It's time for the kittens to go back to their cages and stay put where they belong. Let the monsters come out to play on their own and stop trying to fit in in a world that you aren't designed for."

"Let me go, David," Janice ordered.

"After tonight, I'll let you go all right," David told her, holding her gaze. "Let you go back to that pit you've lived in because now you've got some fire in you and you can survive that, but you can't survive this. You can't survive the bloodbath that is coming, Janice. And I'm not about to watch as you fall to the fangs of some fucking leech not worth the blood that turned him. We're sending you away to protect you and that's all we can do. We want you to stay away. I want you to stay away from this place."

"David…" Janice said, fighting against his grip, but weakening under his words.

"You're nothing but vampire bait if you stay with us and I won't let that happen, Kitten. You're too good for that. You've gone through too much and we've put too much into taking care of you. If we let you go, at least you'll live another day. You'll smile and breathe and dance under the sunlight. Everything that you should be able to do instead of bleeding out right before our eyes. So stay away. Stay far away from the boardwalk after tonight. Don't leave the walls of your home at night, even if those walls drive you insane. It's not forever."

Janice stared at his chest and stopped fighting against him. David waited a few of her heartbeats before releasing her wrist. The silver haired girl stepped back and lifted her amber eyes to meet his and she knew that they were wet with determined, unshed tears from a breaking heart.

"David, I agree to your terms," she told him.

"You'll stay away?" David asked, watching her, scenting her for deception.

"I'll stay away," Janice promised before tilting her chin up. "But David, I have to tell you something. After tonight, this isn't the last of me. You'll see me again and we'll pick up right where we left off like nothing ever happened. Because that's what we do. That's what we did when I came back from the hospital. That's what we did when you vanished for a week. We just fall back into place and move on. So, when it's safe again, you won't have seen the last of me. I'll be in my room, waiting for you at my easel and we'll go on a joyride through town like nothing ever tore us apart."

David and the Lost Boys stared at her in surprise and amusement. Janice smiled at them and took hold of David's hand. She tugged firmly and started to pull him towards the rides.

"Let's make the most of tonight," she said with a smile. "It's going to be the last one we have for a while, Boys." She laughed. "I'm so going to make you scream!"

A/N: I'm slowly getting back into the writing spirit, but it's a hard time for me. Bear with me. I'll get back to that point someday and then I'll be writing up a storm and you'll never know what to do with yourself. So for now, please leave a comment or two. Thank you. -Scarlet
