"Boxers or briefs?" Ed thought silently, as he stretched out on the couch in Roy's office.
The sudden thought caught him off guard, making him shake his head firmly, hoping the thought would go away.
But there he was, lying on the couch watching Roy sitting behind his desk busy with paperwork.
Edward Elric was thinking whether Roy Mustang, the very man he loathed, wore boxers or briefs.
"Possibly nothing at all." He subconsciously thought, catching himself off guard which made him involuntarily fall off the side of the couch.
Landing with a loud thud, Ed cursed under his breath as he banged the back of his head on the hard floor.
"Are you all right?" Roy asked, rushing over to Ed lying limp on the floor.
"Yeah, I'm fine Mustang, get off me!" Ed snapped, pushing himself up into a sitting position.
"What made you fall?" Roy asked, shifting to sit opposite of Ed.
"I was thinking about something and got distracted…" Ed answered, halfway telling the truth.
His thoughts had made him distracted and he wasn't paying full attention to how close he was to the edge of the couch.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Roy asked, concern in his voice.
"I said I was fine, I got a thick skull," Ed laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head as he stood up.
"If you say so," Roy mumbled, pushing himself to stand.
"Oh, before I forget to tell you, you're going to have to stay over with me tonigh," Roy announced, returning to his desk.
"I'm sorry, I must've had something in my ear, what did you just say?" Ed asked, looking up at Roy blankly.
"Hughes is out of town on an assignment and his wife and daughter are staying at his mother's, so you will be staying at my place." Roy explained, propping his feet up on the desk.
"Fine, I should go find Al to tell him," Ed said, heading towards the door.
"That won't be necessary Ed, Al asked to go with Gracia." Roy informed him, as Ed turned back around to face the room.
"We'll leave once I finish up some paperwork, it's getting late." Roy continued, nodding his head towards the window behind him.
Ed looked up and noted the darkening sky outside as the sun was beginning to set.
"Just go relax on the couch; if you fall asleep, I'll wake you when it's time to leave," Roy said reassuringly, gesturing to the couch.
"Whatever you say," Ed mumbled, tossing himself back onto the couch to lie down.
"This paperwork is giving me a headache, maybe if I just take a nap before we leave." Roy thought to himself, shifting through the papers on his desk.
Roy chanced a curious glance at Ed lying lazily on the couch, his leg and auto-mail arm hanging off the side.
"I wonder… boxers or briefs?" Roy's mind wondered, as his gaze slid over Ed's sleeping form.
"No, I can't think of that, I may have feelings for the boy, but he hates me." Roy thought, shaking his head.
He tore his eyes away from Ed to check the time on the clock above his office door, it was a quarter past seven.
"Come on Ed, it's time to go." Roy said quietly, gently shaking Ed's shoulder.
"We're taking a car?" Ed mumbled sleepily, sitting up on the couch.
"Yes, I've asked Hawkeye to give us a ride on her way home." Roy answered simply, gesturing towards the door.
"Hawkeye's still working?" Ed questioned.
"She had some reports to finish for the Fuhrer,"
Ed stood from the couch, grabbing up his tote bag from the floor beside the door as he followed Roy out of his office.
"This is the first time staying the night alone with Mustang," Ed thought while following Roy down the long corridor to Hawkeye's office.
Roy knocked on Hawkeye's door.
"Come in!" Riza called out.
Roy pushed open the door, stepping inside the small office.
"Good evening, sir," Riza greeted without looking up from her reports.
"Are you ready to call it a night, Hawkeye?" Roy asked.
"I'll be ready in a moment, I can meet you outside if you don't want to wait in my office," She replied.
Roy and Ed made their way outside to wait for Hawkeye to finish her work.
"Why can't I stop thinking about Mustang?" Ed thought as he caught himself staring up at the older man leaning against the stone building wall.
"It shouldn't bother me this much… Should it?" He continued to wonder.
