"boom"-Talking

'boom'-inner monologue

"is it true?"

A child could be seen playing alone in the park, she was wearing a simple red shirt and blue shorts that go just above her knees.

"through the eyes of a child."

A man was sitting not far from her on a bench, looking at her with a sad expression on his face.

"We could see all the magic and wonder of the world"

The girl walked to a group of children playing on a slide, yet as she approaches every single of them avoided her.

"I don't think that was true"

She stared at the children as they avoided her.

"because I don't even experience let alone see the magic the world has to offer as a child"

She stood there holding the bottom of her shirt her black eyes stared at it with a confused gaze.

"they walked away from me without telling me"

Two adults a man and a woman that look like her looked at her unmoving.

"they never give me an explanation"

Both of them slowly turned away from her.

"why was I abandoned?"

They kept walking away as she stood there unmoving, a sad expression on her face.

"did I do something wrong?"

She slowly turned her head to see an elderly man who looked at her with a sad smile.

"Grandpa said they would be back"

She looked again in front of her.

"in the end, they didn't come back"

She now sees an elderly woman in a traditional house living room, patting her head in the summer.

"I asked nana, she insisted it wasn't my fault"

Now she was alone again, holding a doll gifted by her parents.

"but I couldn't help but wonder…"

"am I the problem?"

The image of her parents walking away once again came to her mind.

"my grandparents asked me to stay strong"

She was standing in front of the elderly couple. Who was giving her a warm smile.

"and it's going to be okay"

She smiled at them.

"but"

She was standing in front of a grave wearing a black dress while holding a flower in her hand.

"it wasn't long before they too leave me"

She looked at the blue sky.

"but everyone said I'm going to be happy again"

She looked at the many people in front of her who was scowling at her.

"But why is everyone pushing me away?"

She was now in a classroom, she had grown since last time and her hair had grown just above her shoulder.

"I wanted to have a friend like everyone else"

She was looking at a group of students at the same age as her laughing and scowling at her.

"but they turned me away and tell me I'm cursed"

She looked at her table which was scribbled with an unspoken word.

"stay strong I said as they walk away from me"

Everyone walked away from her, leaving her alone.

"I don't care about happiness anymore"

She slowly inhaled the air through her mouth before releasing it.

"I just want a normal life again and be okay with everything."

She felt as if she was drowning in an endless sea of emotion.

Her eyes slowly open as she felt the warmness of the wood on the Kotatsu as she felt the cold wind entering the opened sliding door on her left giving the view of her late grandmother garden which was filled with flowers and a few trees. She slowly pulled her hand which before was under the table and reached forward without even looking, her hand crept around before finally feeling the soft skin of the orange fruit. She pulled her head up as she peeled the orange skin and slowly eat the content of the fruit one by one. She was currently alone with no one looking over her but to her this was okay, this is what she wanted after all.

"yes this is what I want and all I need"

Her everyday life was composed of three essential tasks which are eat, sleep, study, some would say her life was boring but she was okay with it and was satisfied, after all to her that was the only thing she was able to do anyway Since she didn't that many friends she didn't go out of her house that much except for groceries and school. When at home she would do her homework, study, cook and clean because that was the only thing she would do to past time aside from knitting in which she had gotten a great interest recently. Which is why she was currently in her living room looking closely at a book on the Kotatsu in front of her while her hand was attempting to familiarize itself with the needle.

Due to her lack of going out, she had done many new things over the years to pass time and to release her stress from studying. Other than that she often watches video online with her smartphone because again she didn't have anyone to chat with other than her guardian. Which would either busy herself with her work or get drunk after work sometime both.

The sound of the sliding door to her right opening suddenly shocked her causing bot of the needle to fall onto the table. An adult woman came into the living room her raven hair flowing behind her, she was holding a white lab coat in her right arms while smoking a cigarette in her mouth. She looked at her weirdly before the women took the cancer rod out of her mouth with her left hand.

"there you are Hikigaya didn't I told you to wait for me at school"

She said with a calm tone.

"I told you to knock first Hiratsuka sensei and don't smoke inside the house it smells"

She said as she stood up and opened the door leading to the porch for the smoke to go out.

"The door was unlocked and I am your guardian is it wrong for me to enter without knocking?"

She said as she pulled a small rectangular shaped box from her breast pocket and placed it on the kotatsu. She proceeded to stab the front of the cigarettes inside the box and leaving it there.

"it's rude that what it is."

"well whatever"

She said rather nonchalantly.

"Anyway, why didn't you wait for me back at school? I can drive you home"

"I need to do groceries shopping so I decided to leave early"

She said while her eyes looked down at her foot which didn't go unnoticed by her teacher and guardian.

"Truly?"

"yeah…"

"well ok then"

The room was enveloped in an awkward silent causing her to fidget for a while.

"anyway have you eaten yet?"

"I have already eaten my lunch so don't worry about it"

Her teacher said before taking something from under the table and placing it on the table near her.

"here your test result"

And then suddenly her teacher placed her head on the table as if losing hope.

"This is so disappointing, you know the average of the class is 50%, I swear to god if this keeps going on my good name as a teacher is going to be in jeopardy"

She said sulking, while across her Hikigaya looked at her with a rather boring face as if she heard of this hundred times from before. Because, of course, she did whenever she faces a hard time at work she would often come to her house to sulk and moan because as she said to her before she only has a giant teddy bear to talk to back at home. As the teacher continued to sulk she slowly looked at her test paper and gazed at the top right corner of the paper, she expected her score to be high as she studied hard for this test she looked at the marks written in red on the paper and smiled…

65%

'well shit, might as well kiss that hope for university scholarship bye-bye'

She said as a small tear went down her face despite the rather dumbfounded smile.

"This got to be some bias shit!"

She suddenly screamed shocking the women in front of her who looked ready to just get up and Karate kick her out of the house which scared her a bit. Is this what she get for studying all week long for the test. So, she hoped at least she would get into the upper 70%.

"just accept it and be quiet already I know you studied but just don't be callous next time"

Her teacher said.

'easier said than done'

She thinks to herself as she stood and walked away while being looked at by her teacher.

"where are you going?"

"stay there"

She said as her voice was getting farther and farther away from the living room. with her gone Hiratsuka Shizuka decided to take a look around the room. the living room of this house was quite comfortable not too big not to small and the furniture looked like it was cleaned and taken care of every day, well it was her grandparent's home so it was not that weird for her to keep it clean. She turned to look at the two large needles on the table.

'knitting huh'

Before looking at the cleanliness of the house.

'a far cry from my home'

She said to herself as she sulked again upon realizing someone younger is more good at cleaning compared to her. She suddenly felt a cold sensation on her left cheek and see a can of juice being held by no other than her student.

"here"

She said while holding it toward her.

"thanks… what this for if you want to get a higher mark you got to give me something more expensive than a can of juice"

"I give that to you as a thank you, you corrupt teacher!"

She said angrily while her teacher smiled. She looked at the smiling teacher who was happily drinking her juice. Hiratsuka never took offense to her outburst, as to her this was normal.

'ever since she and I first met, she was the only friend I ever had'

She said to herself remembering their first meeting. Hiratsuka Shizuka was assigned as her guardian after her grandparents passed away and to her at least she was the light that she kept desperately trying to hang on to during her darkest days.

"anyway are you knitting, you are like a young grandma you know that and what is up with those wardrobe choices of yours? pink sweatshirt and a blouse? What are you a housewife?"

Her teacher said to her as she gritted her teeth hearing her rude comment at her new hobby.

'you got to ruin something good didn't you'

"stop calling me a young grandma"

She said with a rather irritated voice.

"it's true don't you see, you eat oranges like old woman, dresses like an old woman and most of all you barely use the smartphone I bought for you"

"whatever you old unmarried mafia wannabe"

She said before looking away as her teacher's face became red in embarrassment.

"you take that back!"

"No!"

"why you…"

she said before feeling the dark aura coming from her teacher's direction. She slowly turned to look at her and of course, there she is flying toward her.

'dear nana and grandpa I'll be seeing you soon.'

"ah, my hair, don't pull it!'

"wait! no don't damage my sweater this is my favorite one"

"take it back!"

"no!"

The sound of thumping and the loud voices continued to reverberate into the night as the two lioness continued to fight for the superiority of talking bad about each other but unbeknownst to the two of them outside of the house, two police officer was called due to noise complaint and currently were thinking about their next move.

"that two again?"

"yeah"

"man I wasn't paid enough for this shit."

"I need to up my studies for the next test"

She was currently at a secluded section on the rooftop of Sobu high looking at the skies above which have been a fascination of her ever since she was a child. the rooftop was the only place where she could peacefully eat without being eyed at, her childhood status as the cursed child didn't bode well with the student of this school at all and then there was, of course, the incident at the middle school. She continued munching on the potato snack in her hands.

A clacking sound was heard not far from her, it was her guardian walking toward her. she waved at her with the same smile she often shows her when she meets her. looking at her she was surprised she didn't look that tired since she has fallen asleep at her house after the minor scuffle they had last night.

"smoke break?"

She asked the lab coat wearing teacher who proceeded to sit on the ground next to her.

"Yeah, don't want to anger the egghead downstair"

"you ought to pay more respect to your higher-ups"

She said with a worried face. She was always worried that her smoking tendency would get her guardian in trouble with the school head. That and she didn't want anything bad to happen to her.

"ok grandma"

She looked at her with an annoyed face as they felt the gentle breeze as the two fell into a comfortable silence. She looked at the teacher sitting next to her who staring at the skies. At that moment a guilty look fell upon her.

"I'm sorry"

She turned to her with a questioning look.

"what for?"

"for calling you an unmarried mafia wannabe its rude of me to do so especially after you marked my paper"

She looked shocked for a while listening to her apology but soon that shocked look turned into that of a smile and then a laugh.

"hahaha…"

"don't laugh!"

She screamed as the teacher next to her kept laughing until tears started to fall from her eyes. It wasn't until a few minutes later that she stopped laughing.

"aaaah…. Hikigaya Reiko, you are something else…"

Her teacher said as she looked away pouting.

"I'm not angry, I know you were joking"

"oh I see"

She said as she picked another of potato snack to eat and then held it out to Hiratsuka sensei.

"want one"

"sure"

As the two once again fell in comfortable silence. Hiratsuka Shizuka couldn't help but wonder why she was apologizing to her. her voice from earlier was also different from normal, it was as if she was scared.

"if you don't mind me asking, why did you apologize?"

Hikigaya turned to look at her with potato chips in her mouth. Her eyes slowly looked away from her and onto the floor, at this angle, she got to say the short hair she had did suit her.

"well…"

"you know I have been alone for a while and I just feared that you were mad at me"

"I just don't want to lose the relationship I currently have because you are the only friend and parent figure that I have left."

'that I have left'

That sentences keep replaying in her mind, she knows of her past being abandoned as a child by your parent no less was a hard thing. She never knew why but what she knows is that she suffered because of that and then two years later her grandparents died in a car crash which doesn't make it easy for her. when she was assigned to her as a guardian what she saw wasn't a normal child. no, what she saw was a girl who lost everything with no one to hang on to.

But over the year she managed to regain what semblance of normality under her and the life slowly return to her once dead eyes. She gazed at her.

"wait what are you doing?"

She asked her as she pulled her into a warm hug.

"nothing just charging my Reiko power"

"what are you even talking about?"

She asked with a deadpanned look. While she just laughed at the look she currently giving her.

'I will help you Hikigaya Reiko'

While she continued her laugh Reiko had unconsciously gripped her lab coat as if she wanted to stay like that forever.

"is that her?"

"yes, that's her, the cursed child"

"her parents left her and her grandparents died after two years of living with her"

"that's scary"

"her eyes were also scared it was like looking into a dead fish"

She didn't know how the monicker cursed child came to be but she hated it. Even though not everyone talks behind her back like the one that did annoy her to no end. Due to this, she didn't have any friends of the same age as her. Hiratsuka sensei has asked her to try and make more friend but that bridge was burned down a long time ago and she didn't even feel like rebuilding it. Walking into the class she felt her classmate eyeing her but choose to ignore it and decided to mind her own business.

While the teacher was teaching at the front she was unable to focus on the subject because of her test result yesterday. That and she is still thinking about her future, with her saving and her salary for the part-time job she had taken currently it will be enough to support her in a college. No, it wasn't about that, it was about her future career since the teacher asked for the student to prepare for the future.

'Should I be like nana'

She asked herself while imagining herself being a doctor.

'or like grandpa'

She asked herself again this time imagining herself as a businesswoman. Both of her grandparents were pretty successful people in their prime so she wanted to continue that legacy but then again she is confused about her future.

'teacher eh'

She said imagining herself in Hiratsuka sensei shoes only to scoff at her after remembering her current situation.

'yeah no way that going to happen'

Not that she had anything against teachers anyway but the school gave her a lot of bad memories and currently she just wants to graduate and leave this place behind. she just didn't see any future with her as a teacher. She continued to think while scribbling on her notebook which is now filled with cat, bear and smily face.

"cursed girl"

"don't spread that curse to us alright"

"why don't you take a Swann dive off the roof might uplift the curse you had"

"dead-eyed freak"

"liar and a bully"

Her memories came to mind as she continued to scribble on the notebook. As she continued to write on her notebook she suddenly felt as if she was being watched. She looked at the front before meeting the eyes of the one who was looking at her, a gray-haired boy that almost looks like a girl. She didn't quite know his name but she has seen him before.

'what, you want chips or something?'
