A Day Gone Wrong

Don't own Naruto!

Prologue

Naruto and Hinata have been married for a few months.

End of Prologue

Naruto woke up at eight o'clock on a Saturday morning next to his beautiful wife Hinata. He smiled as he watched her shoulders rise and fall with her breath. He pushed a wayward hair away from her face and kissed her lips gently. Hinata opened her eyes at her husband's kiss. She smiled and wiped the sleep from her pale eyes. Naruto kissed her again and headed into the bathroom to shower. Hinata laid back down and slept the time it took Naruto to get ready. After Naruto got out of the shower, she headed in and took one herself.

When Hinata came out, she walked into the kitchen to be greeted by the smell and sound of eggs, bacon, and pan cakes roasting on the stove.

"Naruto," she said in surprise. "You know I normally cook breakfast."

"So," answered Naruto. "It's the weekend! You cook on the weeks, so I want to cook on the weekends."

"Thank you, I appreciate it."

When they finished eating, Naruto made a couple of clones to handle the cleaning up so they could go out on a walk. Naruto and Hinata walked down the to the streets of Konoha. They were soon greeted by Neji and Tenten. Neji reserved his quite expression while Tenten almost about to squeezed Naruto and Hinata to death.

"We're getting married!" she cried with glee.

"Wonderful!" said Hinata with a smile.

"We're having the wedding in three months!" said Tenten. Naruto and Hinata kept on walking down to their favorite bench. When they got there, they sat down and enjoyed the view out over Konoha Lake. Hinata rested her head on Naruto's shoulder and closed her eyes.

Suddenly, a kunai whizzed through the air and struck one of the couple. Blood splattered on the ground as Hinata fell to the ground motionless. Naruto had jumped in the way of the kunai and Hinata. If he hadn't, the kunai would have fatally hit Hinata in the forehead. Naruto ripped the kunai out of his shoulder and turned towards Hinata. She was simply shaken from the shock of it. Naruto shook her out of it and headed to Sasuke and Sakura's house. Hinata protested that she was ok, and that Naruto needed to go see a doctor. He flatly refused both requests. After leaving her with Sakura, he and Sasuke went to go look around the village for the attacker.

They searched and searched but to no avail. They were nearing the point of giving up when Sasuke received a hawk bearing a message. On reading it, he beckoned Naruto to follow him. On inquiry, Sasuke told Naruto that Sakura had sent a note saying someone was attacking their home. Sasuke figured it was the attacker from earlier. When they got there, Sakura and Hinata were fighting a masked man in a black robe.

The man smirked as he saw Naruto and Sasuke approach. He had been fighting until then with just his jutsu and taijutsu. However, he pulled out a massive katana from seemingly nowhere. Hinata gasped in surprise as she saw his chakra increase tenfold. Naruto unleashed his Fox chakra and turned almost feral looking. Sasuke in turn activated his Sharingan and drew out his own katana. The masked man lunged at Naruto and drove him back five yards from the sheer momentum. The vessel smiled as ten clones appeared from the shadows and pinned the man to the ground. Sasuke appeared above the man and drove a shaft of chidori through the clones and the man. The man at the last minute jumped out of the way causing Sasuke to destroy the front of a building. Sasuke was shocked. No one since the 4th Great Shinobi War had evaded both the Mangekyo Sharingan and chidori at the same time. A moment after that, a squad of five Anbu Black Ops could be seen jumping over rooftops to reach the scene of the fight.

The man evidently thought fighting nine high level ninja at the same time was a bit much for him. He threw down a few smoke bombs and tore off. Hinata, being uninhibited by the smoke because of her Byakugan, followed the man in his escape. In about thirty seconds the smoke had cleared enough for Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and the Black Ops to follow Hinata's scent. They followed the scent into the woods outside of Konoha. Naruto was ahead of the rest of the gang by about a hundred yards. When they caught up to him, they were met with a gruesome and heartbreaking scene.

Naruto was kneeling by the side of Hinata. The attacker she was pursuing was nowhere to be found. As they got closer, they saw the reason why. The man had managed to batter down Hinata's 64 palms rotation enough to make contact. There was a large katana slash starting at her hip and rising up to end at her shoulder. Even from a distance, Sakura could tell that Hinata was no longer on this earth. Naruto was gently stroking Hinata's hair while tears poured from his face. The group stood around Hinata's body for a few minutes just trying to cope with the sudden realization that Hinata had been KIA. (Killed In Action)

Naruto sat bolt upright in a hospital bed in Konoha Hospital with a scream and a splitting headache. He looked around the room to find it was deserted. He tore the IV from his arm and tore into the hall. He didn't make it far because he was met by two Anbu ninjas who promptly knocked him out and placed him back in his bed. When he woke up, his headache had increased greatly thanks to the conk on the head. He was about to repeat the incident from earlier when the door opened and a kunoichi in a white uniform strolled in. The uniform belonged to Sakura Haruno. Before Sakura knew it, Naruto had pinned her to the wall.

"Is Hinata alive?" he asked with fear tinted in his voice.

"As a matter of fact, I am," replied Hinata who had walked in the door a few seconds after Sakura's pinning to the wall. She smiled as Naruto enveloped her in a hug so fierce she was slightly suffocated. Not that she minded it though. She simply smiled and wrapped her arms around the love of her life.

"I thought I lost you," said Naruto. "I guess it was all a bad dream."

"More specifically," said Sakura rubbing her back ruefully. "A genjutsu so powerful that it renders the victim unaware that he is in one. The particular genjutsu you were put through was one that made you experience your deepest, darkest fear come to reality. You've been unconscious for a day."

Naruto tightened his grip on Hinata at Sakura's words. They stood like that for several minutes until Sakura pulled Naruto back in bed and gave him a sleep serum.

"You may have been out for day, but your body feels like it really experienced what happened to you in the genjutsu," said Sakura. "Once you get some rest, you can go home."

Naruto simply shrugged and fell asleep for ten long hours. When he woke up, it was about six o'clock in the evening. Despite Hinata's concern that he should stay in the hospital a day longer, Naruto insisted that they go home. Hinata broke down after a brief argument and waited until Naruto was ready to go. Once they got to their home, Naruto had no problem getting back to sleep again, the effects from the genjutsu were to blame for that. Hinata had a good nights rest while Naruto didn't.

Naruto had dreams where he repeated the genjutsu over and over in his mind. This went on for several days until Hinata persuaded him to go see Sakura about the matter. Sakura explained it as being PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). She said it was really a combination of all the fights Naruto had endured. This genjutsu was just the thing that pushed him over the edge. Hinata seemed to be surprisingly unconcerned about the matter. This was shocking to both Naruto and Sakura. Hinata simply stated she would tell Naruto the reason when they got back home. He shoved his curiosity to the back of his mind and followed her home.

Hinata, when they got home, lead Naruto into the bedroom and pulled out a box from under the bed. She unlocked the box with a key she carried around her neck. She took out two scrolls and looked at Naruto.

"There is a secret jutsu known only to the Hyuga clan," She stated. "It was used mainly when the clans were mercenaries. This jutsu allows two people to link themselves together. It allows them to exchange chakra and emotions between the two users. This was often done between the young heir of the clan and his/her mother. It helped secure the heir's safety until he/she was strong enough to fend for himself/herself. It has also the ability to negate the effects of PTSD. I intend to perform this jutsu on the two of us."

"Fine by me!"

"Very well, I'll begin."

She then took one scroll and applied a tiny bit of chakra onto the seal. She then applied the piece of paper onto Naruto's forehead and performed several hand signs. Naruto felt a searing pain on his forehead and sudden feeling that a part of him was missing. Hinata then took the other seal and had Naruto apply some of his chakra onto the center of the seal. She repeated the hand signs after applying the seal to her forehead. She in turn felt a searing pain. However, instead of an emptiness, Naruto and Hinata felt as if another person was in each other's minds. Hinata smiled and realized the seal had worked. She could feel in her mind her husband's bewilderment while he could feel in his mind her satisfaction at the success. Ever since that day, Naruto's PTSD never bothered him again. Hinata and Naruto's bond flourished even more thanks to the seal on their heads.
