The jet black hedgehog smoothly skated over the metallic floors of Eggman's base. This wasn't just any ordinary Eggman base, this was a full scale invasion of Eggman's latest large scale complex. Everyone was taking down parts of the massive facility, Team Sonic in one area, Team Chaotix in another. Shadow had broken off from the rest of Team Dark to sneak into the heart of the base and take on Eggman himself. The base still hadn't completed its lockdown sequence, giving Shadow just enough time to slip inside. He unfortunately had to navigate through Eggman's maze-like complex, however there were little to no badniks inside. They must've all been dispatched to deal with everyone else.
"Shadow! I had a feeling you'd find a way in here, but you won't stop me, not yet." Eggman's voice crackled to life on the building's speakers, clearly panicking and typing away at an electronic keyboard. Alarms screeched, with flaring red lights everywhere Shadow looked.
"It doesn't matter what you do doctor, I'm ending your scheme before you can even start it." Snapped back, picking up speed. Several gates began to close in an attempt to lock Shadow in, he managed to jam a few with Chaos Spears, but found himself stuck. All four corridors were blocked by sealed gates. Becoming more enraged by Eggman's simple tricks, began glowing a deep red.
"Chaos Blast!" He cried out, sending out an explosion of Chaos Energy, completely obliterating all four gates. Despite the attack depleting a majority of his energy, Shadow pressed on, dead set on stopping Eggman from launching whatever new weapon he had made. Blitzing down the corridors with little resistance Shadow finally made his way to Eggman. Eggman was still typing away on a digital keyboard in his Eggmobile, finishing in time to avoid a Chaos Spear from Shadow.
"You're too late, Shadow! I've finished everything, and now my newest tool for world domination will be fully operational!" He declared, "Behold! The Chaos Cannon!" A hatch on the ceiling opened, revealing what appeared to be a replica of the Eclipse Cannon, rising from the ground. The sight took Shadow aback. "Ah yes, the old memories, wouldn't you agree, Shadow? I must be off now, I would explain my newest creation, however I think it would be much more effective to give a live demonstration!" Eggman stated, flying through the open roof.
The cannon roared to life, charging up a blue sphere of energy at its tip. The sphere emitted a beam of energy, which shot up into the clouds. At the end of the beam was what appeared to be a portal, sucking in some of the surrounding clouds. Shadow stood, entranced at the spectacle, but snapped out of it when he saw Eggman rapidly approaching the portal. In a desperate attempt to stop the doctor, Shadow began wildly throwing Chaos Spears around the room, ripping the computers and terminals to shreds. After finishing his first volley of attacks, Shadow had managed to disable the cannon, with its blue beam receding into the portal.
However, Eggman had still managed to slip through, and the portal kicked into overdrive once the beam had completely receded. The rift expanded, slowly picking up pieces of the base. Gradually, the portal began to gain more strength and speed, sucking in larger and larger items. Shadow's eyes widened in terror as he realized what he caused. He activated his wrist communicator, needing to get a warning out as soon as possible.
"Rouge, I need you to get everyone as far away from this place as possible."
"Shadow? What happened? What's going on?" Rouge questioned.
"Just look at the sky and you'll know what's going on." Shadow retorted, turning off his communicator. He hopped onto the roof, waiting for a piece of debris to ride up to the portal. Once one came around, he didn't hesitate to jump on and have it carry him into the sky. The portal had a stronger pull the closer he got to it, eventually the rift's strong vortex pulled him inside. Then it all went black.
