Disclaimer: I Do Not Own Naruto Or The Vampire Diaries
(1 Million B.C.)
Once there were four shinobi whose names were Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, and Naruto. This story is about what happened to Naruto when they were fighting the goddess Kaguya during the Fourth Shinobi War. They were the only four living shinobi still conscious after Madara cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and Kaguya escaped her prison. She was stronger than anyone they had ever fought before. Pain, Obito, Madara, all of them paled in comparison to her strength. The only chance they had against her was her son, the Sage of Six Paths. He himself was a very old man with white hair, horns on his forehead, and a third eye. It was only with his help that they had been able to reseal Kaguya and save the shinobi world.
As soon as Kaguya had been sealed away, Naruto had been pulled from his world. The Sage had made it clear that the price for the power to defeat Kaguya would be high. Now it was time for Naruto to pay.
"It is time," said Hagoromo. "You've fought well with the power gifted to you, Naruto."
"I couldn't have done it without my friends," said Naruto.
"Be that as it may, the price is yours to pay," said Hagoromo, who was weaving signs with his fingers. "It will be quick.
"I'm ready," said Naruto, nodding. It was a far higher price than he had expected, and the thought of losing all the friends he had made hurt, but this had to be done. He had already made the deal.
"Do you remember everything I told you? About what comes next?" asked Hagoromo.
"Yes. You are going to do a jutsu, and I am going to become fully immortal," answered Naruto.
Hagoromo nodded. "In layman's terms, yes. However, there is much more to it. As a true immortal, you will never die. You will become a being that should not exist. Nature will have to compensate, and in doing so, doppelgangers of you will be born, and they will and die in your place."
"To keep the balance," said Naruto. "I know, you've already explained it. I understand."
"And?" asked Hagoromo.
"Never interact with them. Or anyone after the end of the Shinobi era," answered Naruto. "If I do and they see my powers, they might try and discover my origin, which may lead them to Kaguya."
"Good. You are ready," said Hagoromo. He stopped weaving signs and clapped his hands flat together. "I am sorry it has come to this, Naruto."
"I knew what I was getting into," said Naruto, and he closed his eyes.
(Present Day)
Journal Entry #117,
Something big is going to happen today. I don't know how I know. I've never had premonitions before, but...
But here I am at 8:30 in the morning, awake and waiting. I keep telling myself that I'm still all messed up from the difference between the Prison world and reality. But that doesn't explain why I feel so anxious.
The day before yesterday, while I was walking through town, I had a strange feeling that I was being followed. I'm almost positive I was. But anyone who wanted me dead should have been nothing but dust now. All my enemies died hundreds of years ago.
Or did they? I wasn't around anymore; how do I know one of them didn't decide to become a Vampire? Live forever just to make sure I never escaped my prison?
Naruto Uzumaki set his quill down. He stared at the last line he had written and then shook his head. Then, with a sudden move, he threw the book into the corner of the room, where it bounced harmlessly and landed on the stacked bags.
It was completely asinine.
Since when had he, Naruto Uzumaki, been scared of his enemies. Since when had he been scared of anything? He stood up and angrily shoved his arm into an overcoat and slung it over his shoulders. He didn't even glance through the open bathroom door at the mirror on the wall; he knew what he'd see. Naruto Uzumaki, the Alpha of the East Atlantic Pack, an Original Vampire, a Witch, and most importantly, an abomination. No matter how fancy he dressed, or how strong he became, those words still bothered him.
A quick bite and some coffee and I'll calm down, he thought. Then there was a loud knocking at his door.
"Mr. Uzumaki!" the elderly innkeeper called through the cheap wood. "You have a guest!"
A guest? Naruto's hand slid underneath his coat, retrieving the knife hidden inside. No one alive should have been looking for Naruto Uzumaki. To the world, he was a ghost. If it ever cared that he existed in the first place.
"Mr. Uzumaki?" the innkeeper called again.
"Come in!" He replied. Underneath his breath, he spoke quietly. "Dissera portus."
The door to his room swung open, and the elderly innkeeper smiled. It was as if she didn't even see the curved white bone blade in his hand.
"Good morning, Mr. Uzumaki. Your guest, Ms. Caroline Forbes," she said and stepped out of the doorway.
Not a second after, another woman stepped through the doorway. She was younger than the innkeeper, only a few years older than Naruto himself if he had to guess. To the world, she no doubt looked like any other teenage girl. Naruto could tell the difference, though. Behind the blonde hair, blue eyes, and a bright smile, he could sense the danger. Smell the blood on that clung to her like perfume.
"Hello, Naruto," said Caroline, and she stepped into the room.
That didn't put him at ease. Hotels were in a gray area where vampires were concerned.
"Not another step," he warned, lifting the knife in his hand.
She spared the weapon only a momentary glance before looking up to meet his eyes.
"You don't need that, Naruto," said Caroline. Her smile never faltering.
"I think that's for me to decide," answered Naruto in a sarcastic voice. "Now, I am going to ask you questions, and you're going to answer. Don't bother trying to lie; I'll know if you aren't being truthful."
Caroline's smile finally dimmed. "Werewolves don't actually have that ability," she said.
"So you know what I am. How?"
"Research. Once I knew where to look, it was easy," said Caroline. "August-"
Naruto moved in a blur. He was across the room and had his hand wrapped around Caroline's throat in a blink.
"Don't-" He pushed the tip of the knife into the skin under her chin. "Don't say that name."
"Of course," Caroline nodded, and she apologized. "I'm sorry. I understand that it is a sore subject. I won't bring it up again."
Naruto released his hand from her throat and stepped back, pulling the knife with him. "What do you want?" he asked.
"To help."
"Help?" Naruto asked.
Caroline's head bobbed her bright smile back in place. "Yes. You've been stuck in a prison world for nearly a century. The world is a very different place now. We can help you-"
"We?" Naruto cut in. He looked beyond Caroline and focused his hearing.
The innkeeper in the lobby. A dog next door. Rooms of snoring mortals and a couple down the hall having morning sex.
"I came alone," said Caroline. She reached into her purse and pulled a folded pamphlet. "Here, read this, and I can answer any questions you have."
Naruto stretched out his hand to take the offering. On the cover, there was a picture of a massive home with golden words printed underneath.
Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted
"It's, um, a school for supernatural beings," Caroline said. "Witches, Werewolves, and Vampires. We help people accept and control what they are. Other than that, it's mostly like any other school in the world, except we have a few extra classes."
Naruto flippled the pamphlet open. One page was for Werewolves, one for Vampires, and the last was for witches. He frowned as he skimmed through the printed words. It sounded like a nice place. And it was definitely something the supernatural community needed. He had seen too many young Vampires wheeled into Augustine's lab because they didn't know how to control their baser instincts and got caught.
"Where would I fit?" He asked, despite himself. "I'm a Tribrid. Part Werewolf, part Witch, part Vampire."
"Well," Caroline said with a grimace. "After a bit of trial and error, we placed each group in different wings of the school. We try to get everyone to mingle during classes and assign team-related homework, but instinct is hard to change. Different sleeping quarters was a compromise we had to make to keep everyone safe."
Naruto nodded. He knew that werewolf bites were venomous to vampires, so it wasn't a shock that most vampires wouldn't want to fraternize with what they perceived as their mortal enemies.
"So, what do you think?" Caroline asked. "Interested?"
As much as Naruto wanted to say, No, I'm not interested, he couldn't. Because he was interested. Very interested. A school for the supernatural wasn't something he had ever imagined existing. Even if he didn't want to stick around, he at least wanted to see it. However, there was something still bothering him.
"This says founded by Alaric Saltzman and Caroline Forbes." He held the pamphlet up. "Why did you come personally?"
"You said it yourself; you're a Tribrid. The only one in the world." Caroline said. "You need to be taught and protected. And given your...history, I thought it better to come myself."
Naruto frowned. He didn't know which part of that was a lie, but Caroline was lying to him. And if it's about teaching and protecting me, well, she doesn't seem that old. He thought. Less than a century if he had to guess. Which meant if need be, he could and would kill her.
I know technically Naruto is actually a (Quadbrid?) since he is also a Doppelganger, but he doesn't no that so, for now, he's just a Tribrid.
