This was my sister's favourite.
Delia was in the park with seven-year-old Ash. He'd been good as gold all day, and Delia had also enjoyed watching him have a good time. Eventually, Delia saw an ice cream stand.
"Would you like me to get us both an ice cream?" she asked Ash.
Ash's eyes lit up. "Yes please!"
"What would you like on yours?" Delia asked him.
"Nuts, please," Ash replied.
"Right," Delia said. She went up to the ice cream stand. "Two single ice creams, please. One with nuts, one plain."
"Coming right up," the ice cream stand man said as Delia got the money ready. When he had the ice creams ready, Delia paid, thanked him, and gave Ash his ice cream. They sat down on a nearby bench to eat them.
"Do you like it?" Delia asked Ash. She soon saw she didn't even have to ask, as he was taking a big lick of his ice cream. He obviously loved it… but he then squeezed his eyes shut and clutched his forehead. He'd got an ice cream headache. Delia couldn't help but laugh a little as she licked her own ice cream, more gently than Ash had done.
"That was great, Mommy!" Ash said once he had recovered from the ice cream headache and they had both finished their ice creams. "So was today! I loved it!"
"I'm happy to hear it." Delia smiled. There weren't many things better for any mother, including Delia, than her child telling her that they'd enjoyed themselves.
